PRELUDE WORDS OF WELCOME MINUTE FOR MISSION-Music and Arts *CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: Power and might and majesty belong to God who created and is creating. People: Thanks be to God for His mighty wonders. Leader: Like the image of a powerful wind, and the heavens as a garment, God’s majesty is revealed in all creation. People: We look around us at the wonders and marvel at the infinite variety and beauty which God has created. Leader: Who are we, that God should pay attention to us? People: We are God’s beloved children, and we come to worship the One who created us. Amen. *PRAYER OF INVOCATION *HYMN #33

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Heidelberg Catechism) Leader: What is your only comfort in life and in death? All: That I belong - body and soul, in life and in death - not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of His own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that He protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit His purpose for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him. Amen. PRAYER OF CONFESSION Refrain:
Leader:
All: Leader: All:
Leader: All:
Holy God, it is humbling to realize that Your wisdom and understanding are infinite and unknowable, and yet, in Your grace, You have shared Your plan of redemption with Your fallen creation. When we don’t understand the difficulties we are going through in our own lives, we pray that we may trust You in all things, mindful of Your perfect plans and purposes. God of grace, hear our prayer: Refrain We know that You are sovereign and Your way is best. Help us to live by faith and not by sight. God of grace, hear our prayer: Refrain
Search us, O God, and know our hearts. Test us and know our troubled thoughts. Give us true repentance that only comes from You. Do Your transforming work in us so that we can live as Your redeemed people in the world. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
ASSURANCE 1 John 1:9 Leader: If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon. All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. ANTHEM

I dare not lift my guilty eyes. I hide my lips in trembling shame. And in the darkness of my soul, I shrink from Your rekindling flame. Kyrie eleison, kyrie eleison, have mercy.
In equal measure of Your love, You promise mercy, tender compassion to the one who seeks Your face. A broken heart, a fainting soul, a contrite spirit, together cry for Your forgiveness and Your grace.
In mercy cover me with grace and blot out my iniquity. Renew my heart and wash me clean; grant with Your pardon, purity. Kyrie eleison, kyrie eleison, have mercy.
Against You only have I sinned. My deeds are evil in Your sight. Of Your forgiveness let me sing, and in my singing take delight. Kyrie eleison, kyrie eleison, have mercy. page 3
PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. SCRIPTURE
Job 38:1-18
Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone— while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? “Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’?
“Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it? The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features stand out like those of a garment. The wicked are denied their light, and their upraised arm is broken. “Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep? Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness? Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this.
Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. page 4

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION SCRIPTURE The Lord said to Job: “Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!” Then Job answered the Lord: “I am unworthy—how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth. I spoke once, but I have no answer— twice, but I will say no more.” Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm: “Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.
Job 40:1-14 “Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself? Do you have an arm like God’s, and can your voice thunder like his? Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty. Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at all who are proud and bring them low, look at all who are proud and humble them, crush the wicked where they stand. Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave. Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you. page 5

WALKING BESIDE MINISTRY Think of a time when you really felt cared for. Chances are someone focused on what you had to say, was attentive to your needs, and listened to how you felt instead of telling you how you should feel or what you should do. Our Walking Beside Ministry is a ministry of listening. Listening is one of the most powerful ministry tools at our disposal. It demonstrates that you care about the other person. It’s listening in such a way as to be able to feel what someone else is truly feeling. Would you like to have a good listener sit with you for a while? If so, contact Pastor Brett, Pastor Jim, or any one of our team members.
