Seaford College – Sports Programme Saturday 11th November Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians, The co-curricular team are very much looking forward to welcoming all students and parents this weekend to enjoy competitive sports fixtures, recreational sport, and Outdoor Education activities.

We have lots going on this weekend, both home and away, so please read the information below carefully.

Competitive Fixtures Girls’ Hockey Year 9 to 13 v Tormead School/Churcher’s College or Internal Competitive Training Blocks

Boys’ Rugby Year 9 to 13 v The Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe (Please note that the 1st XV match has been moved to Havant RFC 3G pitch this weekend)

• Password for team sheets To access all team details, you will be required to enter a password. The universal password for all year groups is seafordsport (all lower case) •

Additional co-curricular activities and coaching opportunities this Saturday

*Please note that if you are selected for competitive College sports fixtures, these must take priority over other recreational and Outdoor Education activities.

• Senior Girls Netball – Coaching & Matchplay – Year 11-13 only 9:00am to 11:00am On Saturday, Miss Compton will be offering netball coaching, internal match play and conditioning for any Year 11-13 girls not involved in competitive sports fixtures this weekend between 9:00am and 10:30am on the Oval West Courts.

• Recreational tennis coaching – Open to Year 7 to 13 On Saturday, Miss Ross will be offering tennis coaching and internal match play for any tennis players not involved in competitive sports fixtures this weekend between 9:00am and 12:00pm. • Recreational golf coaching – open to Year 7 to 13 On Saturday, Mr Halsey will be offering recreational golf coaching for any students not involved in the competitive sports fixtures this weekend between 9:00am and 12:00pm. Email Mr Halsey – jhalsey@seaford.org – if you would like to sign up. Please do not just turn up as there will be a limit on numbers.

• Meet and greet There will be several of the sports staff meeting and greeting you as you arrive, so please just ask them if you are unsure of anything.

Weather

According to the Met Office, the forecast at home this weekend is clear changing to cloudy in the afternoon with highs of 9 degrees. As always, can I please ask that all students involved on Saturday ensure they have a water bottle and arrive appropriately dressed for their activities and the conditions.

• Saturday sport and car parking The College site is always busy on a Saturday, so with this in mind can I please ask that you ensure you park in the designated parking areas and not on the grass verges, especially with the recent wet weather. The Music Block and Johnson Centre car park will be used as overflows if there is no space closer to the action. The grounds and estates team work extremely hard to ensure the campus looks amazing so please respect this. It is only a five-minute walk from the Johnson Centre to the Oval and Charles Johnson Hockey Pavilion and it will give you an opportunity to enjoy our beautiful surroundings. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and the safety of our students. Thank you for your cooperation with this. A big team effort is needed.

• Girls’ hockey – Charles Johnson Pavilion (4 on attached Campus Map).

• Overflow car parking If there is no room in your respective activity’s parking area, please use the Johnson Centre car park as an overflow. The coach park needs to be clear for coaches and minibuses. Please do not park on any grass areas.

• Weekend sport hospitality and match teas The Oval Pavilion end room will be used by staff and the medical team so can I respectfully ask spectators not to use this area.

• Medical provision This Saturday, we will be supported by paramedics, the Seaford College physio team and our Medical Centre.

• Additional Medical Support – Return2Play – Reminder!

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

• Communication of sports teams Regular communication between coaches, players and parents is crucial for a successful sporting programme.

The age group coaches will be in contact each week, so please direct any queries their way.

You might want to save this address to your favourites and send it to your family and friends. The website is easy to navigate and allows you to see the most up-to-date sporting calendar, fixtures, venues and team sheets (just click on the blue person icon next to the relevant team and fixture). From any team’s fixture listings, you can download the entire fixture list to your personal calendar on your PC or mobile device. Any changes we make will be synchronised with your personal calendar whenever you connect your PC or mobile device to the internet. The mobile web app will allow you to access fixture and team sheet information on the go. Your son or daughter’s age group coach will also email you a team sheet and details of the fixture (venue, kit list, transport, drop-off and pick-up times). This should be done no later than 48 hours before the fixture.

Blue Blood Sports – Kit Suppliers

Please refer to the guidance sent out to all parents in relation to sports kit. There are also Seaford Sport leisure items on the website; however, these items should not be worn during sports sessions (for example, the new Seaford Sport College sweater).

Hopefully, this helps clarify when and where the new additional Seaford leisurewear jumper can and cannot be used whilst in College. As always, a common-sense approach to kit and sporting equipment.

•

Students are allowed to wear the jumper to and from fixtures and games; however, they should not be used during warm-ups, games sessions/fixtures as are they are not technical kit.

• The leisurewear jumper is an optional item and is not part of the compulsory kit package. It is an extra leisurewear item and should not replace the quarter zip and fleece that are part of the sports kit.

• Wet weather and cancellations As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

• Dogs on the school site We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead whilst onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Finally, please take some time to read our parental code of conduct attached. Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a College, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends.
