Assessment Facilitator Overview Digital Live Bedside Service

Assessment Overview

The JoyRx Music Digital Live bedside assessment is designed to be quickly and easily administered by a hospital facilitator after each patient service interaction to measure program impact. The assessment includes three parts – patient, parent/caregiver, and hospital facilitator surveys – and while it’s desirable to complete all three parts, it is not required. Hospital facilitators should center the wellbeing of patients and their families by using their best judgement to administer the assessment when appropriate.

Administration Preparation

1. After patient music interaction concludes, mute iPad microphone, turn off video, and confirm actions with patient and parent/caregiver, if present.

2. Tap the pink ‘JoyRx Music Assessment’ shortcut on the iPad or click the link here.

3. Enter date, hospital name, and other basic demographic information.

Parent/Caregiver Survey

4. If parent/caregiver is present, select their language (survey is available in English or Spanish), read them the informed consent script in the survey and mark parent/caregiver response.

5. If parent/caregiver consents to survey, hand them the iPad to complete 6 survey questions.

6. When the parent/caregiver is done, receive the iPad back from them.

Patient Survey

7. If patient is able to respond (no situational, developmental, or medical factors interfering), verbally ask patient “Can I ask you some questions about the music today?”.

8. If patient consents, verbally ask patient the 3 survey questions and mark responses on the iPad.

9. Once completed, step out of the patient’s room.

Questions? Feedback? Need help?

Hospital Facilitator Survey

10. Before entering the next patient’s room, respond to multiple choice questions about your role and your observations of the music interaction on the iPad.

11. Once all information collected is entered into the form, click ‘Submit’ and then a popup will appear to confirm – select ‘Yes’.

12. A message will confirm your assessment form was submitted and the page will redirect back to a blank form for the next patient.

13. Unmute iPad microphone, turn on the video, and proceed to the next patient’s room to start music.

Facilitator Tips

• Please use your best judgement to administer the assessment only as appropriate without interfering with care or service delivery.

• Patients and parents/caregivers should be empowered to choose whether they would like to participate and share their feedback.

• All patient, parent/caregiver, and hospital facilitator survey questions are optional – it is preferred but not required that all questions have a response.
