1.0 Brand Mark. Does Sabeel Center have the power to shift design trends? Probably not, but Sabeel’s recent rebrand clearly marks a shift in design thinking. The new abstrct mark is made to be read as Sabeel in Arabic means “path” or “way”. The design of the Abstract Logo Mark is made not only to be read as ‘Sabeel” but it’s made to be in Kufic Arabic and made into a square to showcase a path. When you look at the mark, it looks like a maze almost, with the lines not only leading your eyes but making them travel a path. The Abstract Mark is combined with the Word Mark to complete the Brand Mark. They must be used in combination almost everytime. Exceptions are Websites or on Merchandise. Kufic script, in calligraphy, earliest extant Islamic style of handwritten alphabet that was used by early Muslims to record the Qurān. This angular, slowmoving, dignified script was also used on tombstones and coins as well as for inscriptions on buildings. Some experts distinguish Kūfi proper from Meccan and Medinese scripts, which were also used to copy the Qurān. The script was called Kūfi because it was thought to have been developed at Kūfah in Iraq—an early Islamic centre of culture. Simple Kūfi was developed early in the Islamic era; the earliest surviving copies of the Qurān—from the 8th to the 10th century—were copied in it. Later a floral Kūfi flourished, and several other varieties of the script developed, including foliated Kūfi, plaited or interlaced Kūfi, bordered Kūfi, and squared Kūfi. It went out of general use about the 12th century, although it continued to be used as a decorative element to contrast with the scripts that superseded it. www.sabeelcenter.org “Kūfic Script.” Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc., https://www.britannica.com/topic/Kufic-script.

Logo Brief

Sabeel Center NEW LOGO

Sabeel Center OLD LOGO:

The old logo is a pictorial image of a geometric floral design. The colors are from Sabeel’s old branding and were chosen to represent the community center. The conflict withthe old symbol logo is that is doesn’t have functionality nor purpose. It doesn’t tell a viewer what the place is, what it’s for, nor what it does. The new branding incorporates similar geometric style with incorporating functionality and purpose by being made in Kufic Art form and made for a reason.

SABEEL CENTER

The new logo is minimalistic and spells out “Sabeel” in Arabic.

Primary Colors The Primary colors for Sabeel Center’s Brand Identity are Jet Stream which is a pastel, tea green that not only fits visually for an Art Museum but has cultural implementations based off the culture of drinking tea and is very soft and welcoming. The next primary shade for Sabeel Center is Fawn. Fawn is within a shade of golds with a more muted yellow, beige undertone that fits very well with Opal, Black and White. Fern Green is used as the next Primary Color to accentuate and give more depth in design. It is closer tot the original Branding to maintain some continuity to prior elements.
