A design for a boathouse for the local rowing club in South Park, Seattle that emphasizes the linear shapes of the sculls and shells and responds to the natural topography of the site. Part of a larger design including a clubhouse, landscaping, and a public viewing platform. The boat shelves direct visitors and teammates onto the 400-foot long dock and out onto the Duwamish river. A sectional model helped develop the small-scale details of the design at 1/2"=1-0'. Model used plaster, foam board, chipboard, craft paper, acrylic paint. Images used Rhino, Illustrator, PhotoShop.

Three small outdoor interventions in the Union Bay Natural Area, Seattle, designed for an award-winning wildlife photographer that specializes in bird-watching. The structures emphasize the existing pathways while creating visual connections to each other. A combination of personal photography, pen drawings, and PhotoShop renders the interventions in the exact spots in the UBNA that they were designed to be placed.

An experimentation of model-making at a realistic level to produce one interior picture. The final image is completely unedited and includes real plants picked from a rain garden, a city-scape backdrop printed onto paper, and scale figures laser cut onto chipboard. The scene is of an indoor market space that is part of a larger design for an Urban Food Center. Crescent board, chipboard, acrylic paint, bass wood. 1/2” = 1’ - 0”

A series of images using pushed black and white film photography to highlight textures and details at varying scales. The ability to heighten contrast as I developed and printed the film in the dark room emphasizes texture and creates emotional depth that would not have been there in digital color photography. Shot on a Canon AE-1 with Ilford HP5+ film.

monolith Personal / Spring-Winter 2022

A personal series capturing monolithic structures in the built environment and how they interact with the sky. The structures always emphasize the view of the sky, whether through creating a frame, guiding a viewer’s eyes to the horizon, or a combination of both. Digital camera.
