A Grand Way to End The Year’s Stewardship Reaching the end of this year’s stewardship, the Professionalism and Academia Departments of SPE ITS SC collaborated in a breakthrough work program called the “Geothermal Week”.

This initiative is a response by SPE ITS SC to face the emerging field of Geothermal through finding innovative ways to educate members and boards on it. As we all know, as society’s liking of the oil and gas industry decreases, experts state that the next best thing we can take advantage of is Geothermal. Thus, the two departments grabbed the opportunity and presented a never-before event.

“I hope that our new Geothermal Week opens doors to our members in terms of knowledge and network to familiarize with the Geothermal industry. For SPE ITS SC, I hope that this event will improve relations with companies and professionals,” commented Dafa Bayu Putranto

as the Director of the Academia Department, which serves as the primary resource of oil and gas knowledge for members and boards of SPE ITS SC. Aligned with the aim to improve SPE ITS SC further, Geothermal Week creatively collaborated with the organization’s most well-known events: Integrated SPE Company Visit (InSPEct) and Guest Lecture. This event lasted for three days from the 21st until the 23rd of May 2021. The Guest Lecture resides on the 21st with hopes of giving the members and boards a foundation to Geothermal, which will be further explored on the 22nd and 23rd where participants will have the opportunity to have exclusive discussions with experts inside break-out rooms according to their interest.

Nowadays, climate chaos is a global issue as well as a challenge for industry players to create the energy that the world needs while working to achieve the ambitions of the Paris Climate Agreement. Various aspects, ranging from investment, innovation, breakthroughs, and the integration of the global community, are needed for the successful fulfillment of energy that increases along with the growth of the global community. Then, how is the petroleum industry facing this transition to clean energy?

2. Accelerate Technology and Innovation Technology is the right step to maximize emission reductions in a cost-effective way for industry and consumers. Once, an inspiring staff of SPE told me about a powerful saying that has brought her to several milestones in her campus life. She said, “Work Hard and Be Kind”. These few simple words may look petite and fundamental but it has the power to push us to the limits.

Well, say Hi to Dyah Putri Nareswari, she is commonly known as Putri. She is currently contributing to SPE ITS SC as staff of External Affairs as well as the coordinator of TalkShow in our main event Petrolida. Quite the fascination for staff to be one of the pillars of our Student Chapter.

Don’t kid yourselves and feel small fellow readers, these experiences are what awaits you in SPE ITS SC.

Dyah Putri Nareswari

Let’s step back a year when all life seems normal and soothing, during that time there seems no obvious reason or urge to be joining SPE during the first year of college. Why did Putri join SPE ITS SC? It all started when she had the curiosity to apply to Petrolida Talk, at first she was accepted as staff of the event. Talking about the event, it goes brightly to how any offline seminar would do. But this outwardly amazing event didn’t just end there, it

gave Putri the impression or teaser of how much more the student chapter has to offer for professionalism, development, and the environment itself. Putri specifically points out the amazing work culture that can value the system and professionalism as well as looking out for the enthusiasm of the staff.

Nevertheless, the core values that SPE adds on to Putri’s preference of managerial development inside the campus.

Approaching the organization during the pandemic touches the nerves, not just to add resilience under the pressure but to force ourselves to use creativity as the selling point of our events. During the peak of saturation for webinars, Putri must coordinate Petrolida’s Talk Show, to give something more out of talk shows her team approaches the quantity as well as the quality of the talk show. Implementing Design Thinking for Breakthrough While we know a lot about practices that stimulate new ideas, innovation teams often struggle to apply them. Why? Because people’s biases and entrenched behaviors get in the way. In response to that, design thinking helps people overcome this problem and unleash their creativity. Design thinking approaches to problem-solving, which leads to innovation, and innovation can lead to differentiation and a competitive advantage. The design-thinking framework follows an overall flow of understanding, exploration, and materialization, which can be broken down to six phases.

1. Empathize First of all, conduct research to develop knowledge about what your users do, say, think, and feel. Imagine your goal is to improve an onboarding experience for new users. In this phase, you talk to a range of actual users.

Directly observe what they do, how they think, and what they want, asking yourself things like ‘what motivates or discourages users?’ or ‘where do they experience frustration?’
