The latest was held in February 14th, 2018 and concurrently with Valentine’s Day celebration. Conducted at O-102 room between 18:00 - 20:00 WIB . Be The Best Version Of You: An Interview With Gwyn Walesa

Last November we conducted an interview with Gwyn Walesa, former President of SPE ITS SC who currently works as a field engineer in Schlumberger. He shared some of his work experiences as a field engineer and as the President of SPE ITS SC.

Hence, the entrance into the petroleum industry is very difficult and challenging as many people are competing for it. Knowledges related to the industry is becoming more and more necessary to get into the job.

Q: What organizations or activites do you suggest for the first and second year students of SPE member/board to enroll in?

A: Any organization or activities are all the same, but there are 4 qualities that I think to be important to be developed by any students to be able to work at any sector they dreamed of. They are leadership, communication skill, problem solving skill and systematical thinking. With that quality, any individual can work at any sector depending on their interest.

The leadership means we are not only able to lead yourself to make a good work, but also able to lead others to make greater impacts.

Communication skills mean that we need to be able to deliver your message effectively to small and large group of people and also has the skill to convince (or HR, in job application, you able to convince that you are the suitable candidate for the vacancy). Problem solving means that we able to identify the root cause of a big problem and able to address the right solution.

Systematical thinking means we able to make everything in the right order to ease our work and lead to effective & efficient work.

Q:Have you ever had a bad experience with a coworker, client, or teams you are working with?

A: I have an experience working with a client known to be quiet un-

First Edition | pleasant. It was true that his behaviour was unpleasant but my advice for that is to stay professional in doing your job. My job is to deliver the best work for him. Oil Prices on Mixed Course as U.S. Crude Supplies Weighed

Oil prices were mixed Tuesday, as lower-than-expected inventories buoyed the U.S. crude grade while refinery maintenance in Europe weighed on oil prices in the region.

West Texas Intermediate futures CLH8, +0.24% rose 43 cents, or 0.7%, to $62.11 a barrel. Brent crude LCOJ8, -0.85% , the global benchmark, slipped 46 cents, or 0.7%, to $65.21 a barrel.

Investors are assessing conflicting U.S. data from last week about surging U.S. shale output coupled with a lower than expected build up in U.S. stocks and falling oil inventories at Cushing, Okla., which have declined by nearly 50%, according to analysts at Standard Chartered.

Now refinery maintenance in several regions including Europe is putting a damper demand for crude causing a divergence of the crude grades.

“You still have those low stocks in Cushing supporting WTI on the other hand you have stock builds in the U.S. Gulf,” said Olivier Jakob, managing director of Petromatrix, an oil research firm in Switzerland.

“There are also some signs of physical pressure in the crude oil market in Europe, partly due to lower crude oil demand due to refinery maintenance.”

Still, oil found support last week after resource-rich Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its partnership with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and external producers such as Russia in their efforts to eliminate about 2% of global supply.

Crude prices closed at a one-week high Friday, after having fallen by more than 12% in the first weeks of February, weighed down by concerns of surging U.S. output eclipsing demand as forecast by the International Energy Agency.

OPEC and other analysts have issued differing views from the IEA. Some analysts say that shale may not be enough to meet future demand.(Mirza Source: USChamber)
