On Saturday (14/9), around 18 drones and 7 cruise missiles were fired to Saudi Arabia’s most critical oil installations in Abqaiq and Khurais. It temporarily knocked out 5% of the world oil supply. Yemen’s Iran aligned Houthi rebels have said they were behind the attacks.

While The Saudi investigations are continuing, Saudia Oil company, Saudi Aramco are confident that their full production will resume by the end of September. The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said that world energy consumption is expected to rise 50% from 2018 levels by 2050. The US Energy Information Administration said as it

released its 2019 International Energy Outlook (IEO) on Sept. 24. Worldwide renewable energy consumption increases by 3.1% per year between 2018 and 2050 compared with 0.6% per year in petroleum and other liquids, 0.4%/year growth in coal, and 1.1% per year in natural gas consumption. Marsudi said that The oil and gas corner will facilitate investors in the sector to learn about the potential of oil and gas exploration in Indonesia without having to visit Indonesia. The corner is also equipped with a collection of the latest literature and information on the upstream oil and gas industry, potential resources, and profiles of the oil and gas industry businesspersons in Indonesia.

MIND SPLASH The Drilling Process (part I) Most drilling rigs are owned by independent companies specializing in drilling. Exploration & Production companies hire the drilling rigs with their associated labor crews and pay the going rig dayrates. Rig hire rates fluctuate with drilling supply and demand can be quite volatile.

The Kelly is a four or six-sided pipe that is turned by the rotary cable. It is connected to the drill string. The drill pipes turn the drill bit. Since the pipes are hollow, they are also used to convey drilling fluids to the drill bit. The drill pipes are connected to a heavy drill collar, which puts weight on the drill bit. The drill pipes are stored individually in a rat hole on the rig floor just before it is attached to the next section of drill pipe.

The mud is re-circulated. This mud mixture cools the drill bit, forces rock cuttings to the surface, and coats the drilled hole to prevent cave-ins. The density of the mud has to be carefully calculated as downhole pressure changes at each new depth.

The viscosity of the mud affects the flow and mud’s cooling ability. Rock cuttings then are analyzed when they reach the surface.

As the bit sinks into the ground, the Kelly attached to the drill pipe will also move lower to the ground. Every thirty feet, after a period of drilling, the Kelly is disconnected from the drill pipe and a new section of standard 30-foot pipe is attached to the one in the ground. The Kelly is then reattached to the top of this new pipe.

INSPIRE ZONE Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie June 25 1939 – September 11, 2019

Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie was the third President of Indonesia from 1998 to 1999. He known as BJ Habibie. BJ Habibie’s father died when he was 14 years old. Following his father’s death, Habibie continued his studies in Jakarta and then in 1955 moved to Germany. n 1960, Habibie received a degree in Engineering in Germany, Diplôme d'Ingénieur (often shorthened as Dipl. Ing). In 1965, Habibie delivered his thesis in aerospace engineering and received the grade of "very good" for his dissertation, giving him the title of Doctor der Ingenieurwissenschaften. In 1974, Suharto recruited Habibie to return to Indonesia as part of Suharto's drive to industrialize and develop the country. Habibie was initially served as a special assistant to Ibnu Sutowo, the CEO of Pertamina's state oil company. Two years later, in 1976, Habibie was made Chief Executive Officer of the new state-owned enterprise of the Nusantara Aircraft Industry (IPTN). In 1978, he was appointed as Minister of Resesarch and Technology. (Diandra)
