City of Morton The City of Morton, which was established in 1866 has long been a proponent of healthy and clean living. In accordance with that, the city board adopted a smoking ban ordinance for public places in 2013 and amended ordinance to include E-Cigarettes in 2016.

In addition, it established a “Healthy Hometown Committee” in 2013 as well as the City Board adopting a bicycle helmet ordinance.

The city also larvicides and sprays for mosquitoes.

In 2013, Morton was one of 13 communities in Mississippi to be approved as a Healthcare Industry Zone.

Morton also provided wellness events for citizens and employees, such as: Morton in Motion; Mayor’s Weight Loss Challenge; 10,000 Steps Per Day – Get Lean at Lunch.

The City has recently adopted policy to allow employees to exercise twice a week for 30 minutes during work hours. The city opened a Farmer’s Market.

Magnolia Regional Health Center The Magnolia Regional Health Center’s HealthSmart Wellness Advocate Program was launched in January of 2016 as a wellness program available to all employees with the incentive of having the $300 health insurance individual deductible waived and also being able to receive prescribed medications for the chronic diseases of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking cessation for free upon meeting certain requirements. A total of 231 employees are currently enrolled in this program.

The HealthSmart Wellness Advocate program provides a website portal for each participant to utilize as a partnership to help

achieve their personal wellness goals. Webinars and workshops, risk advisor, progress reports, logs, meal planners and resources are available on this portal for all participants.

Magnolia Regional has a rich history in Corinth, beginning as Magnolia Hospital in 1965. Since then, renovating and upgrading of the facility and equipment has evolved into the health care organization it is today as Alcorn County’s No. 1 employer.

MDHS touches the lives of 1 in 4 Mississippians as it seeks to help individuals move to selfsufficiency. It seeks to accomplish this mission efficiently by partnering with Mississippi Department of Employment Security, Mississippi Community Colleges, Institutions of Higher Learning, and others. This partnership helps identify those individuals who are unemployed or underemployed, identifying those jobs available in Mississippi, obtaining training for individuals to qualify for jobs, and transitioning them into the workplace.

Gov. Phil Bryant’s mission is for every Mississippi citizen to have a job, and MDHS plays a vital role in achieving this mission.

Ingalls Shipbuilding Ingalls Shipbuilding’s healthrelated program is called Be Well.

The Be Well program has three health initiatives that fall under its umbrella.

The HII Health Center, which celebrated its one-year anniversary on July 1, provides off-site healthcare to Ingalls employees and their dependents. It has a staffed wellness team to assist physicians in helping patients create and maintain a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition and overall health counseling. The health center also has an onsite pharmacy where patients can receive prescriptions for as low as $3 a month.

The Ingalls Onsite Wellness Program operated by Interactive Health provides onsite health screenings, flu shots and facilitates

company-wide physical activity challenges like the Ingalls’ annual Couch-to-5k competition, urging employees to participate in the company’s annual 5K. The Employee Assistance Program serves employees’ mental health by providing drug and alcohol addiction counseling among other mental health services. Established in 1938, Ingalls Shipbuilding – on 800 acres in Pascagoula, Mississippi – has been building quality ships for 78 years.

Sanderson Farms Given the hectic pace of modern life, Sanderson Farm’s philosophy is to make wellness as convenient as possible for its employees.

Comprehensive wellness screenings are provided once each year at the employees’ worksite at no cost to the employee. Results of the screenings are provided to the employee and compared to the prior year’s results. This enables the employee to identify areas of weakness and track their progress from year to year.

Employees also have the opportunity to attend classes on subjects ranging from healthy cooking to how to exercise properly. In order to combat the growing obesity epidemic,

Sanderson Farm’s also provides help to those who seek to lose weight through medically supervised programs or in some cases, through bariatric surgery. Incorporated in 1955, Sanderson Farms has grown into the third largest poultry producer in the country with more than $2.77 billion in annual sales.

St. Dominic's encourages its employees to lead healthy lifestyles through its Employee Wellness program, which focuses on engaging all 3,000plus St. Dominic Health Services employees in healthy living programs. Employees are regularly provided with educational materials, a monthly spotlight on health, physical fitness activities and healthy eating programs throughout the year.

Progress has included completing and submitting the Centers for Disease Control’s online workplace health scorecard and conducting on-site wellness educational sessions led by UMMC faculty members and by health educators from Active Health.

In 2016, it worked in partnership with the

American Heart Association to increase the number of healthier options in drink vending machines, and UMMC observed the American Heart Association’s National Walking Day for the first time. It is also working with the American Cancer Society to identify approaches for promoting cancer screening among employees.

The history of the University of Mississippi Medical Center traces back to 1903 when a two-year medical school was established at the University of Mississippi.

Founded in 1963 by Charles B. Holder, Jr., Hol-Mac Corp. is a major supplier of steel fabrications, cylinders and, most recently, tanks. Tulane University Tulane University’s Madison campus opened in June 2010 and is a satellite campus for Tulane’s School of Continuing Studies. Its mission is to provide opportunities for lifelong learning needs of the community by developing and delivering distinctive undergraduate and graduate professional programs of the highest quality for a diverse student population.

Tulane’s School of Continuing Studies provides degree programs in Health and Wellness, and provides enrichment courses and activities for the local community and the students. For example, the School of Continuing Studies has sponsored the following events: The Battle Against Childhood

Obesity Workshop; Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk; Go Red Week with American Heart Association; Workshop on How to Prepare Healthy Snacks; Stress Management Workshop; Intro to Zumba; and a Mississippi Blood Services Drive.

Tulane University’s Madison campus has approximately 320 enrollments, seven fulltime staff, and over 80 adjunct professors.

Galloway Chandler McKinney Galloway Chandler McKinney Insurance was founded in 1994, through the merger of Galloway-Wiggers Insurance Agency and Kyle Chandler Insurance Agency. The agency has roots dating back to 1920 and has offices in Columbus, West Point, Aberdeen, Amory and Starkville.

The agency has implemented programs in the workplace designed to help employees become healthier. The agency says these programs of nutrition, exercise, and stress guidance have increased employee moral at work and at home.

The agency has 39 total employees –

there are eight partners, all of which are also producers and designated as Certified Insurance Counselors. Included in the staff are a Registered Health Underwriter, a Chartered Life Underwriter, and several certified insurance professionals.

University of Mississippi Founded in 1848, the University of Mississippi is the flagship university for the state of Mississippi. It is a public research university with more than 21,500 students and about 3,000 employees.

The University considers wellness when developing the campus master plan and polices. For example, through a grant, Ole Miss was able to enhance the infrastructure to encourage and remind faculty and staff to walk, run or bike. It also offers options for employee membership to the fitness center, and has implemented a free strength-training class for women over 40.

checks, screenings and a designated physician for Employee Health. A weekly nutrition support and physical activity education class, Smart Meals & Smart Moves, program is offered, and as are private appointments with a registered dietitian. Other programs include Quit or Commit Challenge, Fall into Action, Healthy Holidays, Spring Into Motion and Couch to 5K.

University of Southern Mississippi Founded in 1910, the University of Southern Mississippi opened its doors as a small teachers’ college. It has grown into a comprehensive doctoral and research-driven institution with approximately 3,000 employees and 15,000 students representing 71 foreign countries, all regions of the United States and every corner of Mississippi.

USM provides an environment, services, and policies that promote a healthy workplace. It has a fitness and wellness facility on campus with low cost membership for employees and a lighted walking trail with outdoor fitness stations. The dining areas offer healthy options and meals are labeled

with nutrition information. There is an onsite clinic, Moffitt Health Center that provides medical services and a pharmacy for employees. It has a smoking policy that limits smoking to certain areas on our campus.

The office of Health Promotion and Recreational Sports offers health education lectures and activities on a variety of topics to employees. It also provides free dietetic services and personal training.
