A man of faith who brought Lafayette County workers and residents together in so many ways is leaving his post today. Jerry Haynie, the road manager for Lafayette County, has been on the job, on the county payroll, for almost 30 years. His level of expertise, on a number of topics, has been a huge benefit to
the county for decades. Haynie’s family was in the heavy equipment business for years, and Haynie has been a mechanic, working on heavy equipment, all his life. Haynie was the first shop foreman in the county when it transitioned from the beat to the unit system. His office didn’t even exist, there was only an empty shop. He was on the job when he saw things change, from the central maintenance
headquarters, to the road department. “Each supervisor had their own area and they were in control of their own employees. So when the unit system came along, they built this building,” said Haynie, who moved to Abbeville after escaping the wicked winters of Northern Ohio where he grew up after being born and raised through third TURN TO ROAD PAGE 9
