Hermanos Quay

Introducción

Los hermanos Quay (1947) son gemelos y estudiaron en el Philadelphia College of Art y, más tarde, ya en Londres, en el Royal College of Art. Vuelven a Estados Unidos, pero prefieren Inglaterra, donde se instalan definitivamente, tras una breve estancia en Amsterdam, en 1978, un año antes de debutar en el cine con Nocturna Artificialia, primer peldaño de su personalísimo estilo de cine de animación.

Biografia

En 1980, año en que participan como actores en The Falls, de Peter Greenaway, formaron, con su amigo Keith Griffiths, la productora Konink, propulsora de toda su filmografía. Desde entonces hasta hoy han producido numerosos trabajos de animación stop motion, filmes de arte, documentales, spots (Honeywell, Warkers Crips, etc.), videoclips (el más famoso es Sledgehammer, de Peter Gabriel, escenografías teatrales y creaciones para producciones de ópera (Prokofiev, Feydeau, Chaikovski, etc.) de Richard Jones.

El cine de los hermanos Quay ha creado un universo personal e intransferible que se alimenta de la literatura de autores como Kafka, Michel de Ghelderode, Bruno Schulz o Robert Walser, así como del cineasta Jan Svankmajer, de quien toman elementos estéticos y técnicos, puesto que la mayoría de los films de los Quay están realizados en técnica de animación stop motion, recurso en el cual operan en nivel virtuoso.
