photosynthesis our site is situated in Lake Toba, indonesida. During dry season, the Southwest monsoon carries the haze from Indonesia to its neighbouring countries. The haze is due to slash-and-burn practices in Indonesia, which is spread across South-East Asia. The repercussions include deaths more than 100 thousand across the region. Our answer to this problem lies within the problem itself— . The original inspiration comes from “photosynthesis”, what plants do to maintain balance within the atmosphere. By mimicking photosynthesis, our building aims to capture carbon dioxide to produce something useful, through a traditional architecture.

CO2: Takes in excess carbon dioxide, which is stored for industrial purposes.

Material: Pandan leaves, a quick drying material, which also keeps off insects.

Ventilation:

Sufficient openings at the roof area allows hot, damp air to be circulated out of the building, which is crucial in tropical climate.

THE CHEMICAL FORMULA |

Each of the elements correllate to a certain structure or behaviour. In the formula, the left side signifies the materials in the given site, i.e. Carbon Dioxide and Water. Through the process by the house, produces energy, clean water and air. H20= Water accumulated via rain. CO2= Intake of carbon for carbon capture and storage. ATP= Energy produced by human. Sun Solar panels/ energy.

NADPH= Enzyme/ human body. O2= Filtered air. Glucose= The bio energy produced from accummulating waste. H2O= Filtered water, Useable.

Through case studies, we find that Batak houses has its modernist values.

Heat:

Due to the equatorial altitude, Batak people usually face the problem of over-heating. We want to achieve a green ventilation system, that is, without air-condition. By the laws of aerophysics, the shape of a Batak roof accelerates the wind speed, Yearly rainfall estimates at 2000mm, which becomes a natural ventilation. yet due to lack of management, Indonesia often faces water shortage. By having a water reservoir, the house would achieve self-sufficiency.

A traditional Batak roof is so deep that insufficient natural light penetrates the building.

Heart of Borneo

questions the relationship between man and nature. Questions like since when has mankind detached itself from the ecosystem this much? We aim reconstruct a mind frame, that through education, man can choose to integrate with the environment, without compromise in their livelihood. , Malaysia, rainforest is demolished, and orangutan populations have declined by over 50% in 60 years. The orangutans lose their habitat to palm plantation. To tackle this issue, our first solution is to educate locals within the forest itself, where there is a much greater chance that they would grow up to be more determined to address forest protection.

THE SEMENGGOH WILDLIFE CENTRE IS THE BIGGEST ORANGUTAN REHABILITATION CENTRE IN SARAWAK; ESTABLISHED IN 1975 AS A SANCTUARY FOR THE INJURED AND ORPHANED ORANGUTANS. THE CENTRE IS INTENDED TO REHABILITATE ORANGUTANS AND EDUCATE VISITORS AT THE SAME TIME. HAVING DECIDED UPON OUR SITE'S LOCATION, WE NOW HAVE TO FIGURE OUT TWO MAJOR ISSUES: HOW TO MERGE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PROGRAMS INTO ONE STRUCTURE? AND HOW TO DESIGN A ZOO 2.0? WITH CONTEXT BEING ONLY TREES BRANCHES, AND A RELATIVELY SMALL NUMBER OF CASE STUDIES FOR GUIDANCE, WE TURN TO SIMPLE LOGICS AND APPROACH THE DESIGN AS ONE WOULD AT THE FACE OF ANY CHALLENGE, SOLVING ONE PROBLEM A TIME.

MECHANISM AND ALGORITHMS THE MECHANISM OF THE ARCHITECTURE RELIES HEAVILY ON ALGORITHM BASED ANALYSIS, WHICH THEN HELP US BUILD A SUSTAINABLY CONCIOUS BUILDING. BY USING CONDUCTIVE PAINTS ON THE FOREST WALK, WE CAN ANTICIPATE WHNE THE ORANGUTANS ARRIVE, AND ALERT THE VISITORS, WHO THEN CAN SEND OUT BIG DATA REGARDING THE CONDITIONS OF THE ORANGUTANS. THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY DIGITAL ARCHITECTURE WE AIM TO ACHIEVE-FOR VISITORS TO LEARN THROUGH A LIVING ARCHITECTURE.

/1 INSOLATION CHART AFTER ORGANISING OUR BIG DATA, WE CAN DEDUCE THAT DUE TO THE NON-TEMPERAMENTAL CLIMATE OF MALAYSIA, OUR SITE IS SUITABLE FOR A CIRCULAR SHAPED TYPOLOGY.

/2 SUN PATH AND WIND PATH OUR ENVIRONMENTAL ANAYLYSIS SHOWS THE SUN AND WIND PATH OF OUR SITE, WHICH BECOME THE BASELINE FOR OUR WINDOW DESIGN.

/3 SMART WINDOW PHYSICAL PROTOTYPE: HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/HDJZZN7EQYK 1. WE BUILT APROTOTYPE OF A CO2-ABSORBENT WINDOW. 2. THE GAS SENSOR DETECTS THE CONCENTRATION OF CO2.

3. IF THE AMOUNT REACHES THRESHOLD, THE WINDOWS WILL CLOSE, PREVENTING CO2 FROM REACHING INDOORS. 4. AND CO2 WILL BE DIRECTED INTO A TUBE, THEN TO OUR INDOOR POOL, WHICH IS INITIALLY BLUE, BUT TURNS TO GREEN AND THEN YELLOW DEPENDING ON THE ACIDITY. 5. THIS ALLOWS THE RESIDENTS TO BE AWARE OF THE POLLUTION IN THEIR AREA WITH THE CHANGE OF COLORS IN THEIR INDOOR POOL, WHICH IS HIGHLY INTERACTIVE! 6. USAGE OF STORED CO2 INCLUDES FERTILIZER AND PH BALANCER AMONG MANY MORE. ESSENTIALLY WE RECYCLE THE POLLUTANTS AND MAKE THEM ECO-FRIENDLY!

/4 THE ALGORITHM BEHIND IT ALL ALL THE ABOVE IS ACHIEVABLE BECAUSE WE USE AN ALGORITHMS BASED SOFTWARE GRASSHOPPER AND ITS ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS EXTENSION LADYBUG AND BUTTERFLY TO UTILIZE THE WEATHER DATA COLLECTED.

Sustainable living is a lifestyle where many generations can enjoy a more permanent future. in pulau gaya, Malaysia, the bajau people live in sea house on stilts. Nevertheless, located within the coral triangle, the shores of sabah is one of the most prominents locations to experience the well -conserved reefs. this is due to the minimal damage that the bajau lifestyle leaves on earth. is an alarming issue in current generation. through studies, we aim to establish an architecture which is self-sufficient, which leaves the earth with net positive energy. by using pioneering digital technology, the design is extremely efficient in terms of creating and conserving hydroelectric and tidal energy, to “touch the earth lightly�. *this project borrows the building of kastrup seabath by white arkitekter as a study, and merely discusses the facade system on its own.

the thinking process between floors is to conserve nature. by collecting water and showing the use of it, we can make users more concious of their use of water. sea

Reef is a functional and aesthetic place. the fun part is where people gather around in this circular building. it consists of several function in the vertical section. from up to down: ceiling-shading system; rooftop water reservoir/ light; windows-ventilation; pipes-irrigation; diving board-fun; ground-garden; grey water system; hydro electric power generation...

the thinking process consists of 3 parts of studies in this design; the first part of the study discusses how traditional malay houses can accommodate flood, interior dehumidification, shading systems, and ventilation. all these are important for tropical countries. the second part of the study discusses the properties of fibonacci sequence to create a natural volume. The third part of the study uses grasshoppoer as a tool to create non-linear lines, that of which resembles a reef of anemone. this part of the ceiling automatically opens and closes to accommodate natural cross-ventilation.

Taiwanese aborigines

originated thousands of years ago, and is believed to be the source of Austronesean languages. Taiwan houses such colourful and diverse indegenous cultures, yet is diluted by the mainstream Han Chinese culture. Even indigenous people may forget their own identity by time, ergo the concept, faded. We hope, through an sense-based experience through the airport space, travellers and Taiwanese citizens alike can understand on a deeper level what indigenous culture actually means. With the responsive ceiling structure, ambient light is shone upon the users of the space. This signifies the presence of indigenous culture in Taiwan. It is as if between barely existing and staying present, just like how aborigines culture in Taiwan_barely existing, just enought to scrape by.

is in a rather central part of taichung, taiwan. It is near to the national taiwan opera house and the modern art museum. It is a touristy site where foreigners would visit. We want to design an airbnb, along with the shop and coffee place all together because we feel that this would attract them to come and visit. What we sell is more than just coffee or liquor.

- a new one. With so many cultures in the world, travelers often prefer local hostels to chain hotels. we then drew inspiration from kuching which is a multi-cultural society and we try to learn from its five foot house -- the same with our site!

06 cad/cam in our 3rd year, my best friends and i went to yuan ze university to attend an advanced computer aided design & manufacturing class for 3 semesters. The 1st semester focused on algorithms-based software, grasshopper and rhinoceros.
