1st MODEL | SOLID

Fourth Year Studio Project University of California: Berkeley Spring 2023 Instructor: Matthew Kendall Creation of a figure through the method of three’s. Three by three grid, three circles, and three models. The figure, and its foil, were randomized in a five by five grid using Grasshopper in Rhino. From those randomized matrices, I created volumes by tracing the outlines of the figure + foil’s shapes. Overlaps within the groupings were outlined using light blue coloring. 2nd MODEL | VOID

The Solid SURFACE model| PROJECT wasONEcreated through the final volume, the one outlined through its dark purple fill. I then extruded the shapes and created complex spacings and openings through layering. The Void model was a one to one inverse of the Solid model’s negative spacing with a few alterations. The Surface model was an attempt to simplify the Solid model while creating architecturally inspired spaces.

ARCH 100C - Sanctuary of the Senses Fourth Year Studio Project University of California: Berkeley, Fall 2022 Instructor: Javier Arizmendi Sanctuary of the Sense was a studio project that I created to provide a place of safety for those escaping dangerous domestic situations. It utilized metal language to blend into the urban landscape from the exterior and a wood material on

the interior to create a calming outdoors transition space between buildings. The main goal was to incorporate the five senses into our projectm this was achieved through tactile material, sensory nature/wildlife, and vivid colors.

The Urban Institute’s main focus revolves around harnessing urban life into a building by looking to the San Francisco landscape and representing it through the building’s architectural design. The garden terraces are the public parks while the brick and steel trusses are materials commonly found around the building’s site in SF. A central atrium and perforated brick facade allow light to flow in, while adjustable windows and open spaces allowed for natural ventilation throughout.

ARCH 100A - Museum + Something Else Third Year Studio Project University of California: Berkeley, Fall 2021 Instructor: Monica Sanga Located at the intersection of 22nd and Telegraph in Oaklnd, CA I designed an art museum/ studio space for young artists that focused on maximizing natural light and controlling it through the use of sun shading devices. The project also implemented permeability between outdoor + indoor space, the breathing movement of my project portrayed by spacing and shifting elements, and lastly complex layering of floor sizes to create larger spaces for the upstairs library and digital/ physical gallery spaces.

The first floor plan (right) highlights entrances into the double height cafe as well as a pinch point lobby that allows for occupants to enter directly towards the stairs and elevators as well as accessing the two outdoor courtyards. These courtyards act as multi-use spaces for cafe seating, sculptures from the young artists being featured and a exterior classroom space. The renders are simplified to all white to allow for the form of the facade, floating first floor, and sun shading devices to all become much more apparent.

ARCHI 244 - Working Drawings Second Year Drafting Project Diablo Valley College, Spring 2020 Instructor: Professor J. Lambert One of the most difficult projects I completed was a set of working drawings. The class worked with vectorworks and at the end I had completed 14 sheets from A0.0 to A7.0 ranging from Basic information to elevations, sections, and floor plans. What was most

difficult was having to move online when COVID-19 hit half way through the semester. I learned a great deal about finalizing working drawings, managing the clients time and yours efficiently, and other constraints such as budget and any problems that might occur.

This was a semester long project that my partner Sabin and I worked on. We were expected to create a third campus for our community college that intergrated both a visual arts and architectural school. We utilized a central courtyard that had several main

stairwells and elevator shafts as well as central circulation to get to most classes and stuidos. The exterior had rotating shading devices to block classes from direct southern sunlight while studios sat on the north side for more indirect light.

Zhu This entire page is dedicated to one of our final projects which was a museum meant to house Piet Mondrian paintings. I was challenged to use only 90 degree angles as well as create a column grid for the structure. The program included three gallery spaces, a

lobby space, and a water feature. I utilized mostly 4ply board as well as balsa wood for the column grid and skylight. The bottom floor of the model holds the lobby space, two galleries, and a cafe. The upper floor has a gallery and a skylight that cuts down to the cafe below.

ARCHI 121 - Calder Museum First Year Design Project Diablo Valley College, Spring 2019 Instructor: Professor Q. Zhu The Calder museum was an assignment that challenged me to create a museum for Alexander Calder and his many sculputral works of art. It had to utilize trusses as well as laser cutting

which I accessed through my community college’s architecture program. Using a form of AutoCAD the machine was able to cut out the design I had created. The final step was gluing the pieces together.
