Working as a professor in the Education Department at the University of the Cumberlands is a rewarding experience Every semester, I have the opportunity to teach students who are preparing to become teachers, school leaders, and education professionals My goal is not only to help them succeed academically but also to inspire them to make a positive difference in the lives of others, as noted by Joshua Matthews Kentucky
I believe that learning happens best when students feel encouraged and respected That is why I work to create a classroom environment where everyone feels comfortable participating I welcome questions, discussions, and different viewpoints because they help students learn from one another When students are actively involved in the learning process, they become more confident and motivated
One of the key ways I teach is by connecting course material to real-life situations Education is not just about theories and concepts; it is about applying knowledge in meaningful ways I use examples, case studies, and classroom activities that allow students to see how educational principles work in practice This approach helps them understand how they can use these ideas in their future careers.
I also encourage students to think critically and solve problems independently Instead of simply providing answers, I ask questions that challenge them to explore different perspectives. This helps students develop important skills that will benefit them as educators and lifelong learners Critical thinking is essential in today’s world, and I want my students to feel prepared for the challenges they may encounter.
Another important part of my teaching philosophy is building confidence. Many students begin their studies with doubts about their abilities Through positive feedback and continuous support, I help them recognize their strengths and improve their skills Watching students gain confidence and achieve their goals is one of the most satisfying parts of my profession.
Technology is also an important tool in my classroom I introduce students to digital resources that can improve teaching and learning. By becoming familiar with educational technology, students are better prepared to meet the needs of modern classrooms and engage future learners effectively.
What inspires me most is seeing students grow both personally and professionally Each student brings unique experiences, talents, and goals to the classroom. My role is to guide them, support them, and help them discover their potential I want them to leave the University of the Cumberlands with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed
Teaching is more than a career for me it is a chance to shape the future through education By inspiring and supporting students today, I hope to contribute to a brighter tomorrow for the communities they will serve.
