Dear Lodging Guest, WELCOME Thank you for choosing Colorado Rocky Mountain Resorts to host your stay in Summit County, Colorado. Our professional staff is available to make your stay with us enjoyable and pleasant. This directory is available with valuable information about the area. The following pages include important phone numbers and information as well as additional services provided through Colorado Rocky Mountain Resorts. ABOUT SUMMIT COUNTY Summit County, Colorado is located just 70 miles west of Denver and sits in the valleys of the spectacular Ten Mile, Williams Fork and Gore mountain ranges. It is home to 8 towns and 4 worldclass ski resorts – Copper Mountain, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin and Breckenridge. It possesses spectacular beauty, year-round recreational opportunities and is rich with over a century of history. Originally the area was home to the Ute Indians and other indigenous peoples. However, gold was discovered in the Blue River Valley in 1859 and a gold rush ensued. In a short time, mining camps were erected and the valley was populated with thousands of fortune-seeking miners. The mining industry thrived until about 1918. Around this time, the area’s population dropped to dismal numbers. Not until 1946, when post-war ski enthusiasts established Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, did the new boom era begin. The next ski areas to open were Breckenridge in 1960, Keystone in 1971 and Copper Mountain in 1972. Today, there are over 3 million skier visits per season. Summit County has become an extraordinary summer vacation destination as well. ENJOY We hope your stay with us is one you can look back on with many fond memories. We also hope you make Summit County and Colorado Rocky Mountain Resorts a part of your future plans. Enjoy your visit to Colorado’s playground! Sincerely, The Staff and Management of Colorado Rocky Mountain Resorts

High Altitude Tips Notes On The High Altitude The sun is much more intense at this altitude, and in our “rare air” a sunburn can be very serious. Use sunblock even on cloudy days. Remember that a bright sunny day can mean warm daytime air temperatures, but when the sun goes down in the afternoon, the temperature drops suddenly and drastically. Take extra warm clothes if there’s a chance you’ll be outside after dark. Hypothermia, which is low body temperature, is a condition that knows no season. It can occur in summer or winter if you are wet or chilled by even a slight breeze. Hypothermia is also the result of being overtired and undernourished – so eat and sleep well. The signs of hypothermia are clumsiness, difficulty thinking or talking clearly and overwhelming fatigue. If these warning signs appear, stop, get warm, eat, drink something warm if possible and, if necessary, send for help immediately. Humidity Mountain air is dry and crisp, and while it is invigorating, you’ll lose more body moisture from deeper breathing and increased perspiration. It’s important to keep your body hydrated, and experts recommend you drink two to three times your normal intake of water and juices. Go easy on alcohol and caffeinated beverages. Both are dehydrating, and alcohol is felt much more intensely at this altitude. Illness While the altitude can cause any number of symptoms, it’s not to blame for everything. Remember, colds, flu and other common illnesses occur in the high country. See a physician if you’re in doubt. Our doctors can handle most medical situations that arise, but emergency transportation (helicopter and ambulances) are at the ready if the need exists. Above all else, call for help if you have any doubts at all. High Altitude Tips If any symptoms or conditions worsen, or if you are concerned about your health, please seek medical attention. Doctors in this area have treated altitude illness and may well be able to ease your discomfort during your high-altitude acclimation. Notes On Tipping Etiquette The practice of tipping is standard and expected in the United States. Tips are expected in restaurants and for special services rendered, like valet parking, massage and babysitting. For dining, the common tip (or gratuity) is 15-20% of the bill. Read your bill carefully when dining with parties of five or more persons, as a 15% tip may be automatically included in the total. In most cases, tips are not included in the bill. For other types of services, tip at your discretion. For example, a $1-$3 tip is acceptable for valet parking, long-distance shuttle, food delivery or services rendered by a bell hop. For salon services such as a haircut or massage, tip about 10%.
“We come for the winters, and stay for the summers.” Locals and visitors alike have been learning about the truth behind this statement for years … if you haven’t experienced a summer in Summit County, then now is the time to see what you’ve been missing! When the snow melts away, a “mountain” of activities is uncovered! Consider these: Mountain Biking: Summit County offers over 50 miles of paved and unlimited miles of unpaved biking paths, taking you on a variety of tours for the novice or the expert, each providing scenic views, fresh mountain air and plenty of exercise! White Water Rafting: “Run the rapids” of the Colorado, Arkansas, or Blue Rivers! Whether you’re ready for the thrill of your life, or just want to float leisurely down and enjoy the beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery, white water rafting to suit your taste is right at your fingertips! Half-day, full-day and overnight expeditions are available. Prices are dependent on the length of the trip and river chosen. Golf: The ultimate in relaxation and beauty … golf in the Rockies! The altitude will give your drive extra distance, but don’t be deceived … duffers and pros are always challenged by the quality golf courses offered in Summit County. COPPER CREEK GOLF CLUB – Copper Creek Golf Club at Copper Mountain Resort is North America’s highest championship golf course. Designed by Pete and Perry Dye, Copper Creek was recently awarded 3-1/2 stars by Golf Digest in their annual places to play guide. BRECKENRIDGE GOLF CLUB – Boasts an 18-hole, Jack Nicklaus-designed course open from late May to October (dependent on conditions). Please see the Convenient Local Business Listing for more options.
