Fellowhills Herefords Spring Bull & Heifer Sale 2021

It is with great pride and pleasure that we are able to offer for sale a fantastic group of animals to other breeders. We have decided to offer all our heifers born between 1st October 2019 and 29th May 2020 as well as 3 young bulls that have super pedigrees and indexes.

The sale will go live on 6th April on an online platform which we consider under current Covid 19 restrictions is the safest option for everyone involved.

In 2016, when we established the Fellowhills Hereford Herd, we enjoyed attending many shows and sales in order to source some of the best cow families the breed has to offer. Since then our breeding philosophy has been to breed the best animal possible which will suit both the pedigree and non-pedigree customer.

TERMS & CONDITIONS Cattle will sell under the standard terms and conditions put forward by the breed society and the Livestock Auctioneer’s Association (LAA). These are available from Dowbiggin Marketing upon request. Cattle will also sell under the same warranty as used at official society sales.

CATTLE VIEWING The Hodge family would welcome prospective buyers to contact Dowbiggin Marketing to arrange viewing of the cattle on farm at Fellowhills prior to the sale. Agriculture and Livestock Purchasing are essential business and therefore are also essential travel, therefore being exempt from COVID travel restrictions. When on farm, please follow government COVID advice – maintain social distancing of minimum 2 metres and stay outside or in agricultural buildings only.

HERD HEALTH Health status information can be found at the back of this catalogue. All sale animals are unvaccinated for health scheme disease. Purchased animals can be vaccinated prior to leaving Fellowhills should it be requested by the purchaser. Purchased animals can also be blood tested prior to movement at a cost to the purchaser.

PREGNANCY & SEMEN TESTING All heifers in the sale are guaranteed free of the bull. All bulls in the sale have been semen tested prior to the sale.

ANIMALS SOLD REQUIRING RE-TEST (EXPORT) All sale animals are eligible to be re-tested for export purposes. For more information about purchasing animals for export please contact the sale team.

HYPOTRICHOSIS All sale animals are guaranteed free of Hypotrichosis (HYF) as long as the purchaser tests to animal within three months of the sale, after which time the guarantee is no longer valid.

CATALOGUE CONTENT All the information within this catalogue has been supplied by the vendor. While every effort has been made to ensure the information is correct, Dowbiggin Marketing, the auctioneer and the vendor are not liable for any misprinted information.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Announcements made live on MartEye on the day of the sale or during the sale will take precedence over information in this catalogue so please pay attention to such announcements.

TERMS The terms of the sale are cash, cheque or BACS transfer, payable within one week of the sale. Payment must be made in full before any sale cattle are released and shipped.

PEDIGREE CERTIFICATES Pedigree certificates will be transferred to the buyer after the sale, once payment has been received, at a cost to Fellowhills.

2021 marks ten years of my involvement with the Hereford breed, and I have continued to enjoy working with this breed throughout this time. In those ten years, many new breeders have turned to Hereford, for reasons we all know and understand. Starting a new herd is a tough job, and building a good herd is even tougher. It requires dedication and passion, but above all thorough and smart decision making. One wrong breeding decision can push you back years.

Jimmy and Fiona have prioritised investing in the right females to build exceptional cow families, maintained meticulous selection of the right herd sires and AI sires to work on these females, and developed an in-depth embryo transfer programme to expand their best bloodlines.

All this has meant that they can now bring forward their first-ever sale of bulls and heifers – and they are pretty special.

how to bid There are three main bidding options for our online sale.

OPTION 1 – ONLINE BIDDING Register to bid on the MartEye app or website and then click to bid live. Please ensure you register to bid prior to sale day.

OPTION 2 – PHONE BIDDING We have set up a team of independent phone bidders who will be in the room with the Sale Manager and Auctioneer on sale day. They will take your bids live over the phone. Please contact Josh on 07447 412123 to get you set up as a phone bidder.

OPTION 3 – PROXY BIDDING Our independent phone bidders can also take proxy bids before the sale starts. This means you tell us what lot(s) you wish to bid on and what your maximum bid is. The independent bidder will then bid for you when your lot comes up.

A direct daughter of the renowned Normanton 1 Enoki 4th – the Grand Female Champion of the 2016 Christmas Calf Show that went on to sell for 6,000gns in the first ever Designer Genes Sale. Lot 5 is the first daughter of this renowned female to ever sell from Fellowhills. Her maternal grandsire had a huge impact on the Normanton herd, and both sons of her maternal granddam are working in pedigree herds. The Ishbel cow family has produced some of the biggest names in the Hereford breed, including the 13,000gns Coley 1 Pilot (herdsire at Moorside) and the UK Bull of the Year and Champion of Europe Romany 1 Primetime (herdsire at Coley). What a way to end our female offering. This heifer is a direct granddaughter of Romany 1 Julia RE K42 – National Champion Female! Lot 11 is as stylish as they come, and for a Mayborn heifer she really holds her own in the pen. Royce Julia is one of the meatiest heifers in the offering, and is as structurally sound as they come. We think this female could easily follow her grandmother’s footsteps and become a National Champion female, or better yet become a donor cow. When we flushed Alice to Goldspice we had no idea how good this combination would be. Taliceson has stood out from day one – he’s got phenomenal growth rates, faultless muscle expression, thickness throughout and the look of a future breed changer. He was judged the Best Bull Calf in the 2020 Scottish Herds Competition, and he’s carried on maturing into an outstanding yearling.
