The restrictions of COVID-19 are well and truly behind us, and it is great to see Designer Genes back in its rightful place as the highlight of the Hereford calendar. DGS has undoubtedly cemented itself as the premier Hereford sale in Europe, and our thanks must go to the consignors, for entrusting us in marketing the quality animals and genetics that they enter. We are extremely excited that, for the first time since 2019, we are bringing back our Friday night genetics sale, renamed to DGS On Ice. Previously this has been about highlighting genetics from abroad, but we’ve changed our approach slightly, focusing on the best of UK and European genetics. On offer will be flushes, embryos, semen, and tone extremely exciting herd pick from Auckvale - this opportunity is not to be missed! Join us for what should be a great evening! Our Saturday kicks off with another outstanding herd sire. We honestly thought that 2023 would be a ‘female-only’ year at DGS, simply because Typhoon would have been a hard act to follow. However, when we got the call from Adam to say that they were considering consigning Trailblazer, we knew he had to come to Shrewsbury. Trailblazer is now the third Bull of the Year to enter the ring as Lot 1 at DGS, and he deserves every ounce of your attention on sale day. Over the last few sales, we have learnt a lot about what prospective buyers look for from Designer Genes. Probably the biggest learning is it is not about numbers. That is why in recent years we have reduced our offering slightly to around 15-20 females. This allows us to be even more selective in the quality of our offering, giving buyers the confidence that Designer Genes truly is the best sale of Hereford females in Europe.

Sale information... TERMS AND CONDITIONS Cattle will sell under the standard terms and conditions put forward by the breed society, Halls Auctions and the Livestock Auctioneer’s Association. These are available upon request. Cattle will also sell under the same warranty as used at official society sales. HERD HEALTH Information on the health status of each herd can be found at the back of this catalogue. Every animal in the sale has been TB tested within 60 days of the sale. BVD vaccination is no longer a requirement for the sale unless an animal is sold as in-calf. All cattle in the sale will be accompanied by a complete herd health declaration card which will be on display alongside the animal. PREGNANT FEMALES All females detailed as being in calf have been scanned as such by a certified veterinarian. ANIMALS SOLD REQUIRING RETEST (EXPORT) Some entries are eligible for re-test for export. What an opportunity here! Moralee Herefords do not sell many females from this cow family. Her dam was purchased privately from James Graham, Northern Ireland, and she has become one of the most proven cows at Moralee, with every single bull calf she has produced to date ending up in a pedigree herd and averaging £5000 in the process. She is now 11 years old and still producing the goods. This young female is about as stylish and flashy as they come, and for just a mid-March calf, it isn’t difficult to get excited about her future. She is thick, square, dark, feminine, and we think she will be hard to beat next year. Free of the bull.

Terms & Conditions Please note that cattle sold at Designer Genes Sale 2023 will be sold under the rules and regulations set out by the Livestock Auctioneers Association, Halls Auctions and The Hereford Cattle Society UK These can be found on their respective websites. Halls Auctions reserve the right to have the final say on issues arising from the sale. TERMS The terms of the sale are cash, cheque or wire transfers, payable within one week of the sale. Halls reserve the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Payment must be made in full before any sale cattle are released and shipped. BIDDING All animals to sell through the sale must be sold by auction with each animal selling to the highest bidder. Private sales will not be permitted DISPUTES In the case of bidding disputes, bidding will be re-opened between the involved parties in the dispute. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid and the auctioneer’s decision will be final. ANNOUNCEMENTS Any announcement made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements. PREGNANCY INFORMATION All bred females have been pregnancy examined by a certified veterinarian who has provided the seller with an estimated length of gestation. The estimated gestation period shall be used only as a guideline to calving and is not a guarantee of actual service. The Sale Management team will make it known if any changes occur to breeding details. PEDIGREE CERTIFICATES Pedigree certificates will be transferred to the buyer after the sale, once payment has been received, at a cost to the vendor.
