The Designer Genes 2019 sale group would like to invite you to our 4th Annual DGS Event
It is hard to believe that Designer Genes is now in its fourth year. The three previous years have taught us a lot to say the least and marketing the genetics we have over these years has been a true honour and privilege for all of us on the sale team. To be entrusted by some of the best breeders both at home and globally to sell their most sought-after bloodlines through our sale is incredibly humbling for us, and we owe a great deal of gratitude to all of our previous consignors, without whom our event would not take place. The challenge with operating such a successful sale begins very quickly following each event; that challenge being how do we top the previous year. We know that by standing still we actually move backwards, so this year the DGS Sale Team has worked tirelessly throughout 2019 to make our fourth event our best yet. This has been made even more difficult by the continued success of some of our Designer Genes alumni such as Coley 1 Clara 418 and Auckvale 1 Curly 1725R to name a few. These two females as well as many others who have sold through our ring epitomise the type of genetics we strive to consign for our prospective buyers, and replicating their success will always be challenging – but it’s a good job we like a challenge! In 2019 we decided it was time to go big or go home! We kick of this year’s event with the 2nd Annual DGS Goes Global Sale. Our inaugural event saw three European breed records broken for flushes, semen and embryos, so we knew there was demand to make this sale even bigger. This year we have genetics from Canada, USA, Uruguay, Argentina, Australia, Ireland, Denmark and the UK, offering breeders globally the chance to get their hands on some of the most exciting bloodlines in the Hereford breed, many of which will be the first time these genetics have ever been offered for sale. On Saturday we will sell our largest ever entry of Hereford females to go through the Designer Genes Sale ring when a total of 29 head go under the hammer. The sale also boasts our largest number of consignors with 16 breeders from the UK and Ireland offering you the chance to invest in their best female families. This year’s line-up also includes 8 new consignors to the Designer Genes Sale! I have no hesitation in saying that our 2019 female offering is our best to date, and whatever it is you are looking for, I know we will have it for you in this line-up. To say we are excited about the potential these ladies possess would be an understatement, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to study their unique traits. Across both sales we feel our 2019 offering is our best yet, but don’t just take our word for it, keep turning these pages and see for yourself. We look forward to welcoming you to Shrewsbury this December and as always if you have any questions about the sale offering please don’t hesitate to contact a member of our sale team – we’re always happy to help!

From the day that this powerful Firefly was born we knew that she should be our first live lot in Designer Genes. This high performing female is stunning in her features, from her long front end to a massively muscled top line, there is no doubt that there is a lot to love about this female. Her dam is a daughter of the most wellknown Harvie donor, Firefly 51F. The sire Endure sold for $150,000 as a calf and we purchased semen off him for $700 dose. We are offering 1/2 interest in this future donor cow. You will receive royalties on all her natural calves (25%) plus 1/2 the embryos that she produces. I could talk about the maternal traits of this female all day but you only need to look at her calf to see what she can achieve, and she’s top 10% for Milk! What a beauty! Lively 1887S is the result of an extremely exciting cross between Auckvale and Ervie genetics. Sired by Ervie Classic S30, a bull born over 20 years ago but continues to have a big impact on the breed today, just look at his performance figures if you want reminding why. This cross of proven performance from the Ervie bull onto some of the most established bloodlines in the Horned breed from Auckvale really has ticked all the boxes. At Designer Genes we love to try something new, and one thing we have always wanted to do is bring some heifers from the Republic of Ireland into our sale offering. When Ray & Veronica contacted us and told us about these two females, we knew we just had to have them. Lucy Sky is the first of two full siblings to the Overall Female Champion at the Irish National Hereford Show 2018 at Tullamore, and their ž sister was Reserve Junior Champion at Tullamore in 2019. Their dam is a two-time class winner at Tullamore herself and is a full sister to Gouldingpoll 1 Moonshine (UK Reserve Bull of the Year 2018 and herd sire at Dendor). Lucy Sky is a beautifully dark female with great femininity and eye appeal, and she was Champion at Dungarvan Show 2019. She is certain to follow in the footsteps of her siblings and her full sister

Both these females are also full siblings to Herberry 1 Herbert who is the new junior stock bull at Solpoll Herefords in Northern Ireland, selected for his calving ease and gestation length traits. Lucy Belle is a seriously flashy and easy fleshing female with great muscle development and body structure. She also won Dualla Show in 2019 beating her full sister Lucy Sky. Both these females have beaten each other at different shows this summer and now you have the chance to choose between them. We like a challenge here at Designer Genes but persuading the Wilson family to part with this female nearly killed us off, and it isn’t hard to see why! Ishbel BW R55 is daughter of one of the most successful cows ever to come from the Romany herd – Ishbel 41H A22. Sired by Barwise 1 Wellington, the pedigree of this female is stacked with proven genetics from Canada, Argentina and the UK. But it’s not just about pedigree for this girl as she’s Top 1% for Eye Muscle, Retail Beef Yield, Terminal and Self Replacing Indices as well as Top 5% for 200, 400 and 600 Day Weights. So yes, she’s got pedigree, she’s got performance and it’s clear she’s got phenotype, but match this with the proven track record of her ancestors and you can’t go far wrong.

When I saw this heifer on my visit to Pulham I knew she had to come to Designer Genes, but to then find out she was actually bred by 13-year-old Beth Vincent as well, it reminded me that age is certainly no barrier to success. For Beth to have produced an animal of this quality is commendable and we are honoured to sell her first ever animal to leave the Beckhall herd at Designer Genes. Princess Charlotte is a phenotypically exquisite female with power and performance to die for. When you mix two animals like SMH Kingsize 87K and Dendor 1 Jennefer 15th together you are always bound to create something exciting, but this heifer is beyond exciting, she’s exquisite. Miss Malone exhibits phenomenal muscle definition throughout whilst being structurally sound and easy on the eye. Her dam is former Female of the Year Dendor 1 Jennefer 15th who bred Sky High 1 Miss Valentine who sold for 8,500gns at the inaugural Designer Genes event. Her sire Kingsize continues to have a profound impact on the Hereford breed and is the current Hereford Sire of the Year as a result. Not to mention her performance; being Top 5% for 200 and 400 Day Weights. Miss Malone will undoubtedly have the same impact as her predecessors, and December 14th offers you the first chance at a Jennefer 15th daughter in 3 years!

Here is a real gem of the 2019 sale offering. Just look at the length and capacity in this female! She is sired by Remitall Super Duty 42S who sold for $270,000 at the Remitall dispersal and is now having a profound impact at Sky High. Again she is out of former Female of the Year Dendor 1 Jennefer 15th therefore presenting you with the first chance to own a Jennefer daughter since Sky High 1 Miss Valentine sold at our first sale three years ago. She also boasts figures in the Top 5% for 200, 400 and 600 Day Weights and a +15 for Milk. This feminine, smooth-made female manages to balance sheer elegance and style with power and performance, so it’s safe to say she should make your wish list on sale day!

Sired by Hollyvale 1 Northern lad, The Male and Reserve Breed Champion at the Great Yorkshire and National Poll Show, this daughter has certainly inherited all his class. She shows great thickness, depth and power just like her dam. Dendor 1 Holly 7th has passed on all the femininity and style you could want in a Hereford female! ‘Isabella’ placed first on her only outing to date, and her maternal brother has already been sold to a pedigree herd. The first heifer from the award-winning Bowendu herd to sell, she’s a strong prospect for the 2020 show circuit and with a pedigree like hers a breeder in the making. Another outstanding entry from a first time DGS consignor, check her out on sale day!

There’s no better way to end a sale than with a Dendor female, and for a young heifer this one certainly packs a punch! For a March born heifer to exhibit such length and growth is something really special; just think of the winning you could do with her next year! Sired by Bakgard 1 Keno and out of a SMH Euro daughter, her full sister has been retained in the herd at Dendor, and this is the only reason they can part with this heifer on sale day. Her pedigree is stacked to the rafters on the bottom side with breed-changing sires like Hawkesbury 1 Prosper, Dendor 1 Vindicator and Costhorpe 1 Umpire. Dendor females have won numerous Female of the Year titles in recent years so there are certainly no limits to the potential possessed by this sweet eye-catching heifer.
