Overview: The ICD-10-CM coding system allows health care providers and facilities to answer the question “What brought the patient to my office/facility?” This chapter identifies the purpose of the ICD-10-CM coding system. To accurately convey this information, the coder must become familiar with all aspects of the ICD-10-CM coding book. The book format is explained, as are the different parts of the book.
