SAMฤ : HEAVEN +

We took inspiration from heaven to create Samรก. The sky transmits tranquility and whenever you look at it, it will be different. Samรก seeks to create an atmosphere of serenity and harmony without leaving the city. It seeks to be a stress-free space thanks to its views and landscaping. The intention is to provide a healthy lifestyle physically and mentally to the users of the complex.

2. CIFV 2018 CIFV national contest finalist year: 2018 type: residential team members: Jorge Burnes Julieta Jaramillo Paloma Yris

Infonavit is a Mexican entity that grants loans for affordable housing to workers in Mexico. The goal for the CIFV contest was to create a house in a rural town that could adapt to the different needs of whoever lives in it. The house is easily replicable due to its simple construction techniques and the materials used. Our house is located in Montemorelos, a semi-rural town in northeastern Mexico just 50 miles away from Monterrey. Our project aims for a social housing where all basic needs are satisfied by combining architectural design, spatial comfort, and comunity.

State of Nuevo León

Montemorelos, Mexico Population: 53,854 Montemorelos is a small Mexican city located in the state of Nuevo León. The city is known for being an important citrus center (which has earned it the title of "Orange Capital of Mexico”). The first processor of orange juice in Latin America was built in Montemorelos. We decided to locate our house in a residential area close to important streets and close to important sites in the city.

TO REDEFINE SOCIAL HOUSING IN MEXICO

The purpose of the project is to redefine social housing in Mexico. The idea of designing the house around several patios came to be due to the necessity of providing every space with natural light and ventilation. The main concept of the house is “a wall is a room, which is why we designed niches in the walls to maximize every single area and give its users additional storage spaces. The niches also serve to protect from the sun thanks to the shadows created by them.

The social space includes a living room, kitchen and dining area, which are all open spaces in order to promote interaction between the people who will live in the house. The bedrooms are located in a more private area, separated by the service nucleus, which includes the kitchen and a full shared bathroom, as can be seen in the floor plan to the left. The next render illustrates the social space and how the niches play an important role in the overall design. The house is very well lit thanks to the doors that allow the entry of natural light.

academic project year: 2018 type: residential team members: Paloma Yris Dulce González

Iris is a mixed use complex that combines a residential apartment building and a retail strip. It is located in the Distrito Tec district next to the Tec de Monterrey university campus in Monterrey, Mexico. The goal of this project was to create a building targeted to students and single executives in a small piece of land that is currently used as a water treatment plant. Part of the project was to explore the LEED Certification requirements and procedure. The project falls into the “Certification” category of LEED. Due to its privileged location on one of the main streets of Distrito Tec, there is no height restriction. We had to analyze the market in order to create a competitive and realistic project.

SCHOOL OF ART, ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN academic project year: 2016 type: educational space team members: Jorge Burnes Paulandrea CantĂş

This is a proposal for the new building that will house the school of arts, architecture, and design of the Tec de Monterrey university in Monterrey, Mexico. As part of the new global vision that the university is shifting to, it is seeking to modernize its campus and make it more open and inclusive, which is why we decided to experiment with architectural forms and trends that will mark a new era for the university campus. The new building includes shared spaces for all design majors, as well as the necessary classrooms and work areas to perform different tasks related to design and architecture.

A NEW PLACE IN CAMPUS TO DESIGN & CREATE.

The main focus of the new design school is to house the three main design majors: architecture, arts, and design into one building. The building includes all necessary classrooms and heavy duty workshops to perform different types of activities all related to design and architecture.

The heart of the project is the main workshop, where everyone can go to work on their projects. The workshop is a space in the first floor surrounded by classrooms so that everyone has easy access to it. The main element of the workshop is its structural dome, which is made out of ETFE film.

STRUCTURE & MATERIALS The structure of the building is a hybrid combination of concrete and steel. Steel was used in the beams while concrete was used for columns. This was done because of the versability of steel to adapt to the curved shape of the building, and concrete for its cost, durability, its properties, and easy process.

THE WORKSHOP DOME The dome above the workshop is made out of ETFE film and a metallic framework. It acts as a funnel, carrying water underground.
