How Your Chamber Connects You
FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
As we close out another quarter, I would like to highlight the progress we’ve made for our membership. In order for the Boca Chamber to consistently move forward, we must continue to connect the business leaders and stakeholders that encompass our Chamber. Since its inception in 1952, this organization has prided itself in facilitating opportunities for our members to form strategic connections with others, so that we all can grow together. In an effort to advance the Chamber’s mission – to Promote & Sustain Economic Prosperity in Boca Raton and South Palm Beach County – the strategy of connecting members must go beyond traditional methods. Of course, our Chamber is proud to offer hundreds of ways to connect, through our annual events, monthly membership breakfasts, after – hour networks, leads groups and unlimited marketing opportunities, but it doesn’t end there. • We fight for you as we help to elect pro-business candidates that will work to protect sustainable growth in our community. • We refer you when we receive inquiries about what products or services to use. • We educate you through professional enrichment programs like Leadership Boca. • We bring new business to you when we organize and collaborate on month - long promotions like Boca Restaurant Month! • We pave the way for you to gain referrals and visibility through new channels like Boca Chamber Radio and our growing Social Networks. The Boca Chamber is working to create a business ecosystem where establishing connections provides valuable opportunities to thrive and grow. An ordinary month at the chamber brings you connections with over 150 members combined in our 5 Leads Groups, 300 professionals at our Membership Breakfasts, 100 female leaders at our monthly Successful Women in Business Luncheons, 80 professionals under 40 at PULSE, 30 professionals over 40 at PRIME and those are just some of the incredible programs we offer. Imagine the visibility your business can gain from just 30 days at the chamber?
President & CEO Troy McLellan
"The strategy of connecting members must go beyond traditional methods"
As part of our effort to continue providing our members the opportunity to constantly gain visibility and make connections, we also value every opportunity to give back. In August, we celebrated Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD). By facilitating 24 events that connected nonprofits and for profits, this effort was successful in raising funds and awareness to many charitable organizations. In just 31 days, 24 events raised thousands of dollars for our area nonprofits. For more information about BCFD, turn to page 8. As we look ahead in anticipation of our new fiscal year, we would like to thank our outgoing Chair of the Board, Ethel Isaacs Williams for 2 years of service and dedication in leading the Boca Chamber forward. Join us at our Annual Chamber Ball, as we honor the outstanding leadership of our board. We will also welcome our 2019 Chair, Susan Saturday. Don’t miss this special night on Oct. 27th at the Boca Raton Resort & Club! Read more about our incoming Chair, Susan Saturday on page 5. Successfully connecting our members allows us to both grow our economy and strengthen the region’s current business environment. These strategic connections that foster prosperity, guarantee that Boca Raton remains the best place to live, work, learn & play.
Moving Forward,
Troy M. McLellan, CCE, FCCP President & CEO

Q&A
DO MORE FOR THE COMMON GOOD
Susan Saturday
Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer BBX Capital Corporation, Chair Elect Boca Chamber Board of Directors Team First
Q: What are you looking forward to most in serving as chair? A: I’m honored to carry on the work, and the mission, advanced Susan Saturday, BBX Capital, Incoming Chair, Boca Chamber by our impressive past chairs. I respect them all and feel privileged to follow them. They all have blended their unique "You grow in your career when you willingly talents with others on the Board in such a manner that puts take on challenges and learn all you can, both team first yet lends leadership. It’s a challenge to follow them, independently and by surrounding yourself but the challenge is exciting because of the Chamber’s goals and priorities. We have an opportunity—an obligation—to with smart, resourceful and engaged people" do more together, to reach out to and partner with more professionals and businesses, to build more bridges across public and private sectors, to do more for the common good of our community, county and state.
Yes to Opportunity
Q: Tell us the story of what led to your current success… A: For me, it’s simple. I’ve said “YES!” to opportunities that have stretched me as a leader. You grow in your career when you willingly take on challenges and learn all you can, both independently and by surrounding yourself with smart, resourceful, and engaged people who share—or even challenge—your vision.
Anticipation and Appreciation
Q: What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning? A: My dogs tell me when I’ve slept long enough. My CEO should put them on salary! Kidding aside, I just love my job. From almost the moment I awaken on workdays, in my mind I’m tracking every moment of the day ahead—finishing tasks, playing out conversations, trying to anticipate curves. But I also wake up appreciative that I’m surrounded by a husband, friends and colleagues who lift me up and make me better every day.
Connections are Palpable
Q: What can you say to be true about the power of connections? A: When I speak about the Chamber, I often speak to the connections that I’ve made throughout the years for Bluegreen Vacations as well as myself personally. They have enriched me professionally as well as personally and enabled me to grow my network of business leaders to support our business strategy including our community outreach programs. The power of connections through the Greater Boca Raton Chamber is palpable!
Agent of Growth & Change
Q: What do you hope to achieve as Chair of the Boca Chamber? What do you hope we can achieve together? A: My priority as Chair is to keep us on point and moving forward on the path led by President Troy McLellan and his team. They, along with our Board of Directors and past chairs, have us aimed at the future even as we remain steadfastly committed to our four pillars—Connecting Members, Advancing Commerce, Protecting Business and Enhancing Community. Along that path, through our various programs and initiatives, we have made positive impacts on business professionals, their families, their schools and their communities. We are proud to have become—and eager to continue as—a transformative agent of growth and change. Connection Magazine | 5
LEADERSHIP BOCA 2018
LEA D ERS WHO SERV E
Casey Ademski (Chair) and Jody Saffert (Co-Chair)
The 2018 Leadership Boca Class completed their service project with Place of Hope, Best Foot Forward & The YMCA of South Palm Beach County
A LETTER FROM THE CHAIR I am thrilled and excited to Chair the Leadership Boca Class of 2019! As a graduate of the Class of 2017, and Co-Chair for the Class of 2018, I can confidently express that no two years in this program are ever the same.
Leadership Boca 2018 Raised Over $4K To Provide Swimming Lessons At The YMCA To Children From The Place of Hope
The opportunities and experiences strengthen and become more dynamic each year. The Class of 2018 created lasting relationships with local business leaders, city officials, volunteers and most importantly each other. As a team of like-minded individuals, the Class of 2018 was passionate about exploring opportunities to fill a void in our community. Together, we became involved in charitable causes, like the YMCA and Place of Hope, to make a difference in our own back yard. I, along with my Co-Chair, Jody Saffert of Boca Raton Regional Hospital, look forward to working with the Class of 2019 as we embark on a new leadership adventure.
Leadership Boca 2018 Helping Best Foot Forward
The Class of 2019 will meet and engage with experts in the fields of government, health care, environment, education, human services, business, media and many more to experience the true big picture of Boca Raton. “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams

YEA!
Entrepreneurs
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
As Featured in the South Florida Business Journal
2018-19 Young Entrepreneurs Academy
Student Criteria for the YEA! Program The Boca Chamber Education Foundation’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a program of the Golden Bell Education Foundation. YEA! is for students in grades six through twelve who have demonstrated creativity, innovative ideas, academic effort, determination, enthusiasm, the ability to communicate, and a commitment to their community and family. The 2018-19 class marks our 8th year of YEA! in Boca. We’ve had several success stories in the history of our program. In fact, one of our past winners – Rachel Zietz – the Founder and CEO of the now multimillion-dollar Gladiator Lacrosse company – was featured on the real Shark Tank. On September 26th, we held orientation for the 2018-19 class and we are thrilled to have a full class of 30 students this year. Look for exciting updates to come.
YEA! IS MADE POSSIBLE BY:
RACHEL ZIETZ
CEO of Gladiator Lacrosse Rachel Zeitz is headed to Princeton! Rachel Zietz, CEO of Gladiator Lacrosse, will continue growing her Boca Raton-based company as a Princeton University student, she told the South Florida Business Journal. The 18 year-old entrepreneur, who will study economics at the Ivy League school starting Sept. 10, said she’s looking forward to more free time to work on the bigger projects, such as creating new lacrosse products that can be used by professional and collegiate teams. ............................................... “In high school, you have such a structured schedule,” Zietz said. “I would have to squeeze in time to make phone calls. In college, I’ll have two, maybe three classes a day, so I’ll have much more independence and free time. I’ll have all these extra hours to focus on the business.” ............................................... Zietz founded her company in 2012 (while in Boca Raton’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy), when she was 13 years old, and appeared on ABC’s “Shark Tank” at 15. Gladiator Lacrosse has since grown its revenue in excess of $1 million, and the Business Journal reported that it’s projected $2 million in revenue for 2018. GOLDEN BELL
GOLDEN BELL The Boca Chamber's Education Foundation
The Boca Chamber’s Golden Bell Education Foundation (Golden Bell) is in its 27th year of operation. Golden Bell is a 501 c3 nonprofit organization that was created for the sole purpose of supporting the Boca Raton Public School System, grades K-12. Founded by the Chamber’s Board of Directors, the Foundation funds educational programs that promote business skills. On Thursday, September 13th, we hosted our annual Golden Bell Membership Breakfast. We extend a huge thank you to our sponsor Bluegreen Vacations, keynote speaker Palm Beach County Superintendent Dr. Donald E. Fennoy II, and all of the wonderful principals, teachers and staff at Boca Raton public schools. We are thrilled to have given over $97K in Golden Bell Education Foundation grants to Boca Public Schools grades K-12. Even more amazing - we raised over $4,600 during the breakfast that will go towards next year's grants! If you were unable to attend, it's not too late to make a difference! Every dollar counts. Please consider donating to the Golden Bell Education Foundation. Your gift will directly impact students in the community by improving educational programs and promoting business skills.
