The Many Ways of Connecting Business

As we head into our new fiscal year, it's important to look back at the progress we've made - to learn from our past and to build on our strengths. After serving for 20 years (12 as your President and CEO) at an organization that has been helping businesses succeed since 1952, I can proudly say that one of our Chamber's greatest strengths lies in forming strategic connections with and for our members. In order to advance the Chamber's mission -- to Promote and Sustain Economic Prosperity in Boca Raton and South Palm Beach County -- the concept of connecting members must go beyond traditional methods. Of course, our Chamber is proud to offer hundreds of ways to connect, through our annual events, membership breakfasts, after-hours events, leads groups and committee meetings each year, but it doesn't end there. We're working for you whether you engage with us or are unable to. We're fighting for you as we help to elect candidates that will make operating your business easier. We're referring you when we receive inquiries about what products or services to use. We're bringing new business to you when we implement programs like Boca Restaurant Month. Finally, we're paving the way for more people to connect with your business through new channels like Boca Chamber Radio and our growing social networks. We're connecting you to our members, but we're ultimately connecting you to opportunities for success. In August, we celebrated Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD). We facilitated 25 events that connected our for-profit members with the nonprofit community to raise funds and awareness for their charitable causes. We are extremely pleased to announce that a record-setting total of over $750K was raised in just 31 days. For more information about BCFD, turn to page 8.

President & CEO Troy McLellan

"We're connecting you to our members, but we're also connecting you to opportunities for success."

We're excited to be recognizing business excellence at the 2017 Annual Gala. Join us as we present the coveted M.J. "Mike" Arts Award of Excellence to Jerry Fedele and his Executive Leadership Team at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Jerry has made a lasting mark not only on the Chamber, but also on an institution that is deeply embedded in the fabric of our community. As you know, the Annual Gala is also where we honor the outstanding leadership of The Boca Chamber. We are excited and fortunate to have Ethel Isaacs Williams remain as Chair of the Board for another year. Don't miss this special night on Saturday, Oct. 28th at the Boca Raton Resort & Club! Read more about Jerry Fedele on page 5. From Connecting Members, to Advancing Commerce, to Protecting Business and Enhancing Community, the Boca Chamber could not continue to foster strategic connections without the support of you, our members! Whether we are working to provide opportunities for you to get involved, connect locally or develop professionally, we are working toward the end goal of enhancing our community so that your business may continue to prosper.

Moving Forward,

Troy M. McLellan, CCE, FCCP President & CEO Connection Magazine | 3

President & CEO Boca Raton Regional Hospital The Synergy

Q: After 10 years in Boca Raton, what have you seen change in this community? A: The great thing about Boca Raton is the synergy between small and large businesses, the City of Boca Raton leadership, not-for-profit community organizations, and the residential community that has grown even stronger over time providing a unique balance and making Boca Raton a great place to live, work and enjoy all that our community has to offer.

Boca Raton Regional Hospital's Executive Leadership Team

"The future of Boca Raton Regional Hospital will be spectacular." -Jerry Fedele

Committed to Our City

Q: Why Boca Raton? What has kept you in this city? A: The Boca Raton community is special in many ways, one of which is its zeal to help those in need. The long list of strong not-for-profit community service organizations focuses the energy of our very talented citizens to make our community better for all in need. There is both an immediate and long term impact on making our community special.

Ambassadors of Boca

Q: What can we as ambassadors for this community do to help you and your staff be successful? A: Spread the word about Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Over the last decade, our leadership team has led a metamorphosis from an able community hospital to a tertiary academic regional referral medical center that can compete on many levels with the best medical centers in the country. While we’ve had great success, we are just getting started. We will continue our strategy to firmly establish our place in south Florida as the preeminent provider of outstanding clinical care with nation-leading patient satisfaction and as an educator of our future physicians.

Something to Remember

Q: What is your favorite memory as President & CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital? A: The hospital had significant financial challenges with a staggering loss of $120 million in 2008. After leading the hospital through a remarkable improvement to profitability and redefining the future strategy of the hospital, the hospital suffered an unexpected set back in 2011. I remember meeting with our extraordinarily experienced and talented senior management team at that time. There was no panic or finger pointing. The team came together, defined what needed to be done to get back on track, and then executed with focus and passion. The results speak for themself. Not only did the team get the financials back on track in short order, it led the hospital on an unprecedented streak of growth and excellence over the past 7 years.

Advice for Champions

Q: What is your vision for the future and growth of Boca Regional? A: The last decade at Boca Raton Regional Hospital has been remarkable. The future of Boca Raton Regional Hospital will be spectacular. It will be the preeminent tertiary academic regional referral medical center in south Florida.

Casey Ademski (Co-Chair) and Lloyd Comiter (Chair)

The 2017 Leadership Boca Class completed their service project with Boca Helping Hands.

A LETTER FROM THE CHAIR I am honored to Chair the Leadership Boca Class of 2018, and I look forward to meeting our new community leaders. As a graduate of the Class of 2016, and Co-Chair for the Class of 2017, I can confidently express the vast opportunities the incoming class will experience throughout the year.

Leadership Boca 2017 volunteered at two Thursday night "Family Dinners" at Boca Helping Hands, serving up meals and handing out groceries with a smile!

The Class of 2017 created lasting relationships with many business owners and local leaders from Boca Raton to widespread Palm Beach County. Together, we became involved in charitable causes (volunteering at Boca Helping Hands), connected with like-minded individuals and explored and executed how the Class of 2017 could make a difference in our community. I, along with my Co-Chair, Casey Ademski of the Boca Raton Marriott, look forward to working with the Class of 2018 as we embark on new leadership opportunities. The Class of 2018 will meet with experts in the fields of government, health care, environment, education, social services, business, media and much more.

Ann Wilssens hands out groceries at Boca Helping Hands.

Casey and I are excited to promote, expand and leverage leadership resources in our community and connect Boca Raton’s up and coming talent with the wealth of businesses and services right here in Palm Beach County. “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams

Class President, Jason Hagensick, organized the five volunteer opportunities for the 2017 class (pictured center-right). Hagensick is the President & CEO of the YMCA of South Palm Beach County.

Lynn University announced it has signed an agreement to purchase the assets of Digital Media Arts College (DMAC). Lynn will begin to offer DMAC’s programs in combination with similar Lynn programs to provide both theory and technology to prepare students for careers in a quickly changing market.

Multi-Media Works, Inc. received the Award of Merit from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)/Palm Beach Chapter for a series of 30 mobile videos produced for the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce.

With the expanded offerings, Lynn’s College of International Communication will become the Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn College of Communication and Design. Programs will include graphic and web design, game art, animation, visual effects, advertising, public relations, multimedia journalism, and film and television. The agreement, which is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions, allows Lynn to add new programs, faculty, technology and facilities. DMAC students will gain access to additional academic majors and enhanced student services on Lynn’s campus including student housing, 24/7 dining, health and wellness facilities, recreation center and career center. Lynn and DMAC have structured the agreement to ensure that all of DMAC’s current and incoming students can continue their programs with no interruption or additional cost. With the arrangement, DMAC administrators will discontinue enrolling students, providing instruction and managing operations as of October 19, 2017. Lynn University will manage the transition to ensure business as usual for students. DMAC students may transfer to Lynn with the same semester schedule, faculty, tuition rates and financial aid eligibility, plus added benefits, which include access to additional academic majors and enhanced student services on Lynn’s campus.

MODERNIZING MEDICINE TO CREATE MORE THAN 800 JOBS IN PALM BEACH COUNTY Governor Rick Scott announced in early August that Modernizing Medicine plans to expand operations in the historic Boca Raton Innovation Center (BRIC) in Palm Beach County and will add a total of 838 jobs by 2022. Modernizing Medicine is a Florida based company that specializes in healthcare information technology. In addition to the more than 800 new jobs being created, Modernizing Medicine anticipates making a capital investment of more than $15 million in the Boca Raton community.

“I am incredibly proud of the C3 family,” said C3 CEO Rick Mancinelli. “This honor is a direct result of the tireless effort and passion exuded by every member of the team. Furthermore, it demonstrates that C3 not only continues to grow, but that our growth is accelerating as we continue to broaden our suite of services and extend our geographic coverage."

Governor Scott said, “I am proud that Modernizing Medicine will be expanding in Palm Beach County to create more than 800 new jobs which will provide even more families a great career. Companies like Modernizing Medicine are helping Florida become the best state in the nation for job creation while helping our unemployment rate continue to drop. Now, with the $85 million Florida Job Growth Grant Fund, we will ensure that even more job creators can grow and succeed in Florida.”

In 2016, C3 grew its revenue by 105%, launched and then expanded its Las Vegas based hosting platform, forged an alliance to enter the Cleveland market, bolstered its management team with two industry veterans, and added several new products and services. In 2017, the Company has continued to grow its acclaimed Channel Partner Program, add to its management and service delivery teams, and further expand its hosting capacity in Las Vegas, Miami, and New York.

Headquartered in Boca Raton, Modernizing Medicine was founded in 2010 by chief executive officer Daniel Cane and chief medical and strategy officer Dr. Michael Sherling and has quickly grown to more than 550 employees. The company empowers physicians with suites of mobile, specialty-specific solutions designed to transform how healthcare information is created, consumed and utilized to increase efficiency and improve outcomes.

“Throughout my 25 year career, I have never been a part of something as exciting as C3,” said Dino Morra, C3’s Vice President of Sales. “Our broad portfolio, incredibly deep technical expertise, and unrivaled post-sales support allow us to provide a true one-stop solution for our Channel Partners and their clients.”

President and CEO of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County Kelly Smallridge said, “Modernizing Medicine is an IT powerhouse and a great Palm Beach County success story. It provides hundreds of jobs and its success demonstrates that the county is an ideal location for technology companies to flourish.”

In fact, one of our past winners – Rachel Zietz – the Founder and CEO of the now multimillion-dollar Gladiator Lacrosse company – was just featured in Teen Boss Magazine! Pick up your copy at Barnes & Noble today. On September 27th, we held orientation for the 2017-18 class and we are thrilled to have a full class of 34 students this year. Look for exciting updates to come.

GOLDEN BELL The Boca Chamber's Education Foundation

The Boca Chamber's Golden Bell Education Foundation (Golden Bell) is in its 26th year of operation. Golden Bell is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was created for the sole purpose of supporting the Boca Raton Public School System, grades K-12. Founded by the Chamber's Board of Directors, the Foundation funds educational programs that promote business skills. On Thursday, September 28th, we hosted our annual Golden Bell Membership Breakfast. We extend a huge thank you to our sponsor Bluegreen Vacations, keynote speaker Dr. Robert Avossa, and all of the wonderful principals, teachers and staff at Boca Raton public schools. We are thrilled to have given nearly $80K in Golden Bell Education Foundation grants to Boca Public Schools grades K-12. Even more amazing - we raised $7,000 during the breakfast that will go towards next year's grants! If you were unable to attend, it's not too late to make a difference! Every dollar counts. Please consider donating to the Golden Bell Education Foundation. Your gift will directly impact students in the community by improving educational programs and promoting business skills.
