Enhancing Boca Raton, Boynton and Beyond:
FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
The Climb to Success
“You can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets.” I couldn't agree more with former Governor Schwarzenegger. The first six months have been a great example of that climb to a successful partnership between the Boca Raton and Boynton Beach Chambers of Commerce. The transition exceeded expectation, evening networking events were re-introduced, and annual events were expanded and re-designed. Combined with the retention of the Boynton Chamber office, and its executive, Jonathan Porges, the Boynton Chamber members now have access to higher quality events, contact with a robust network of business professionals and the support from a well-established, pro-business PAC which actively represents business issues at all levels of government. One example of this strengthened partnership can be seen in the success of the Boynton Beach Food, Wine and Brew Fest. We were able to rejuvenate this annual event which forged record attendance from local businesses and community leaders, as well as local and state elected officials. We had a record number of local restaurants, breweries and vendors from West Palm Beach all the way down to Fort Lauderdale. And the most important marker of success – people had a great time! Our strategic efforts are not confined to just business. We are dedicated to enhancing our community through our very own nonprofit: The Golden Bell Education Foundation. This year we will be giving away over $100,000 in grants to all Boca Raton public schools! This is a gratifying way to award all the deserving and innovative programs our school system and administrators work hard to cultivate. We thank all our supporters for ensuring our students have what they need to be successful.
President & CEO Troy McLellan
"We believe that our community is only made stronger by longstanding altruistic efforts"
Looking ahead, you won’t want to miss two of our signature events poised to give more opportunities for you to connect with our vibrant community. I hope to see you for a night of fun, wine, food and comradery as we celebrate Wine & All That Jazz at the Boca Raton Resort & Club on Saturday, August 24th. With a month to recover, September will showcase our Golden Bell Education Foundation’s Seaon 2 Battle of the Bands, set for Saturday, September 28th, where local business professionals-turned-rockstars will battle it out on stage. This is a must-see production! When we aren’t supporting our A-rated public schools, and our vibrant business community, we are actively promoting Boca’s booming tourism industry through the Chamber’s Tourism Committee’s Boca Restaurant Month. Going into its 3rd year, this celebration will feature over 30 restaurants – encouraging residents and visitors alike to eat, stay and play locally while enjoying the incredible array of culinary delights in Boca Raton. We expect to double last year’s participation, creating an even greater economic impact and more exposure for our local restaurants. Last, but not least, is our commitment to philanthropic organizations and our ability to facilitate, as well as participate, in “give back” programs. We believe that our community is only made stronger by longstanding altruistic efforts. With that being said, the Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD) was established. This month-long celebration throughout August, connects for-profit and nonprofit members to help raise funds and awareness for these deserving charities. Please see the full calendar of events on Page 9. The Boca Chamber is committed to enhancing our community in all realms. From our work in promoting education, tourism, and the nonprofit sector, we have built a firm foundation for widespread and lasting success. We encourage you to join us as we climb the ladder to further success – together, we will continue making Boca Raton, Boynton Beach and beyond not only the best place to live, work, learn, and play but also to flourish!
Moving Forward,
Troy M. McLellan, CCE, FCCP President & CEO Connection Magazine | 3

Q&A
MEET CHUCK STOUT
CHUCK STOUT
Executive Vice President, CBIZ Making an Impact
Q: You have been immersed in the Boca Raton community for years. How has your role as the Chair of the Golden Bell Education Foundation impacted you? A: I love the passion teachers have for their profession. We all know they do not teach for a large salary. They teach because of the excitement of seeing a child learn to read, learn how to use a 3D printer, or learn how to compete in a science competition. Almost every adult can look back on their childhood schooling and remember a teacher who had a very positive influence on the person they are today. That impact is what I want Golden Bell to expand upon.
Value of Public Education
Q: How and why did you decide to take on such an impactful role with the foundation?.
"Almost every adult can look back on their childhood schooling and remember a teacher who had a positive influence on the person they are today." -Chuck Stout
A: I was a Board member of Golden Bell for several years and when the former Chairman had to step down, I was honored to be approached to take the leadership position. I have always believed in the value of public education. I am a product of Florida public schools and my children are both graduates of a Florida public school. In fact, I even married a public school teacher!
Success
Q: What can we, as ambassadors for this community, do to help Golden Bell be successful? A: Spread the word about the good work Golden Bell is doing for education in Boca Raton. We need to get our message out to more donors. We are looking for both individual and corporate donors who believe in the value of education.
Vision for the Future
Q: What is your vision for the future and growth of Golden Bell and its impact on this city? A: I would like Golden Bell to be a model for other cities to help support their local public schools. Florida ranks very high nationally for its public education. However, there are many tools teachers need to be creative and teach children which are not funded by the State. This is why the supplemental grants we provide are needed so much. I want Golden Bell to help every single Boca Raton public school be an “A Rated” school and prepare our future workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.
Something to Remember
Q: What is something that people might be surprised to know about you? A: Although I have been very active in the Boca Chamber for over 20 years, I don’t even live in Boca Raton! There is no better Chamber for helping businesses thrive than the Boca Chamber and no better ground roots organization helping its local schools than Golden Bell! Chuck Stout is Executive Vice President for CBIZ Employee Benefits. He has been an employee benefits consultant for over 25 years. As a resident of South Florida since age 7, Chuck has formed a large personal and professional network which allows him to offer his clients many valuable resources. He works with business owners to create competitive, cost efficient employee benefit programs and helps them navigate the rules are regulations of the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Stout was selected to be the Chairman of Golden Bell in 2016 due to his diligence and care for students in the local public schools of Boca Raton. 10| Connection Magazine
