Advancing Commerce in the New Year

FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Looking back at a year of exciting progress, the Boca Chamber is committed to continued advancement in 2018. As the cover reflects, we have been moving forward both on and off the field this year. Florida Atlantic University football led by Head Coach Lane Kiffin has paved the way for unprecedented progress -- winning the Conference USA Championship and drawing fans to our very own Cheribundy Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl. In this thriving environment, the Boca Chamber is more inspired than ever to deliver on our mission: to Promote and Sustain Economic Prosperity in Boca Raton and South Palm Beach County. Let's take a look at a few key advancements from this past year, and more importantly, give you an inside look at what is to come. By definition, Advancing Commerce occurs as we increase the activity of buying and selling goods and services. Our Chamber works relentlessly to create and maintain an environment where business can flourish. In the past two years alone, we have helped the City of Boca Raton create and retain over 1500 jobs. The largest expansion to date was announced in 2017 when our loyal Chamber Member, Modernizing Medicine, publicized their plan to add 838 new jobs in our city. Just this year, the Chamber has welcomed 272 new businesses as members, celebrated 54 ribbon cuttings and hosted 169 events with the purpose of connecting members, instructing better business practices and ultimately advancing commerce! To read more about our 2017 highlights, please refer to page 4.

Chair Ethel Isaacs Williams and President & CEO Troy McLellan

"We deeply value our members and the businesses that make sustaining economic prosperity possible."

With continued advancement, it's critical that we keep our mission at the forefront and our members' best interests in mind. To ensure we are creating the best business environment possible, our professional team and Chamber committee members representing key business and community stakeholders, carefully assess issues the business community is facing. Based on this feedback, we develop our Legislative Agenda with insight from our members, partners in the community, local and state government and educational institutions. This agenda is our guide throughout the year as we advocate for your business here at home and in Tallahassee. To read more about our Legislative Agenda, please see page 9. Coming up, you won't want to miss two of our signature events. On Friday, February 23, we will recognize Barbara Cambia of Lynn University as the 2018 DIAMOND Award recipient at the 12th Annual recognition luncheon. We will also recognize one of our former YEA! students and growing local business owner, Skylar Mandell with the Florida Sea Turtle Company. On Saturday, March 10th, don't miss our annual Community Cookout at the YMCA of South Palm Beach County. Bring your kids and spend the day playing games, enjoying grilled food prepared by the Chamber and YMCA's Boards of Directors and having fun as we unite our incredible community. From Connecting Members, to Advancing Commerce, to Protecting Business and Enhancing the Community, the Boca Chamber is your strongest business advocate. Whether we're hosting an event to connect your business to others or meeting with elected officials in Tallahassee -- we are working for you so that we can advance commerce together. Along with our leadership, the Chair of the Board, Ethel Isaacs Williams, we're excited for this new year ahead, and we look forward to growing business in the community where we live, work, learn and play. Moving Forward,

Troy M. McLellan, CCE, FCCP President & CEO Connection Magazine | 3

Jim Dunn

Vice President & General Manager JM Lexus Committed & Engaged

Q: You have been immersed in the Boca Chamber community for some time. From sponsorship to serving on the Board of Directors and now a member of the Executive Committee – what keeps you engaged? A: It’s a great honor for me to be on the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce's Executive Committee. The city of Boca Raton is one of the finest communities anywhere. I love serving on the Boca Chamber Board because of all the great people involved in this organization, not to mention, so many of the valued customers JM Lexus enjoys are from Boca Raton.

In His Nature

Q: Why the automobile industry? Tell us how you’ve gotten to where you are today. A: Being a frustrated jock and a mediocre bass guitarist and singer, my next love was automobiles. Loving sports the way I do and being competitive, it’s in my nature to have a desire to be the best.

Surrounded by Talent

Q: How does the success keep coming? What’s your secret? A: I’ve been very fortunate in surrounding myself with the most talented people in the automotive industry, and following the direction and legacy of our founder, Mr. Jim Moran.

Something to Remember

Q: What is your favorite memory as Vice President & General Manager of JM Lexus? A: My favorite memory here at JM Lexus was two years ago when our team crossed the 10,000 new vehicle sales threshold for Lexus (an all-time record) and created so much pride for all of our associates at JM Lexus.

Innovation is in Our DNA

Q: What is a memorable quote that has impacted your life and career? A: “If it’s not broke, break it”. Innovation is in our DNA, and we continually challenge ourselves to make our processes and guest experiences world-class.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

THE AGENDA The mission of the Chamber’s Legislative Agenda is to ensure local, state, and federal legislation is conducive to a strong regional business climate and that community decisions support quality economic growth. Through The Boca Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee – a representative group of different businesses and industries around Palm Beach County – members meet monthly to discuss and actively monitor all levels of government. Each year, staff and Chamber committee members carefully assess issues facing our city and develop our Legislative Agenda based on feedback from our members, partners in the community, local/state government and educational institutions. Through interviews, research, discussion and debate, we develop positions and advocate at all levels of government and throughout the business community. After careful review of the issues, the Boca Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee creates and finalizes the Legislative Agenda which is approved by the board of directors. You will find our most recent Chamber Legislative Priority Agenda online at www.bocachamber.com under the "Advocacy" tab.

MEMBER BUZZ BOCA BACCHANAL IS BACK, CELEBRATING 16 YEARS OF FOOD AND WINE IN BOCA RATON

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SPBC CEO BUILD RAISES $175,000

The Boca Bacchanal Wine & Food Festival is celebrating its “Sweet 16” this year on April 6-7, 2018, with an unforgettable weekend of food, wine and fun. The annual event is the signature fundraiser for the Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum and features two-days of events beginning this year with exclusive Vintner Dinners and the community favorite – Bacchanalia.

70 top CEOs and C-Suite business leaders joined together to “climb a success ladder of a different kind” at Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County’s inaugural CEO Build. This time business powerhouses worked together as “Leadership In Action” to help construct a home for a hard-working, low-income family to leave a tremendous impact on the community and break the poverty cycle for Antonine family. The initiative both celebrated and harnessed the unstoppable power of corporate leaders to unite to help transform their community with an inspiring “hand-up, not a hand-out”. No building experience was required as these volunteer CEO Builders worked under the guidance of Habitat construction professionals.

THE MAIN EVENTS Quick to sell out, the VINTNER DINNERS start the weekend off with intimate, private dinners at grand estates and unique historical sites in Boca Raton. These dining experiences each feature a vintner and chef pairing their wine and cuisine together to create a magnificent 5-course meal. Guests attending the Vintner Dinners will also have the opportunity to meet their chef and vintner and learn more about the wine and food pairings of the evening. Tickets to the Vintner Dinners are $325 per person. April 6, 2018.

Jerry Fedele, President & CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital served as CEO Build Honorary Chair, CEO Builder, Paul Adkins and Chairman of Florida Peninsula Insurance Company represented his company that was the CEO Build presenting home sponsor.

The Community’s Party – BACCHANALIA - is known as the longest running, must-attend community wine and food event in Boca Raton, combining incredible food from over 30 local restaurants with worldclass vintners showcasing their wineries’ best – all for attendees to enjoy and sample, for one ticket price. With live entertainment, numerous vendors with interactive experiences, and a high-tech auction with incredible wine, food & experience lots, this is a night not to be missed! Tickets to Bacchanalia are $100 per person. April 8, 2018.

As stakeholders in the creation of the first Habitat “House That CEOs Built” by raising walls and more than $175,000 in funds for the construction materials, the executives built alongside Gevala Antonine’s family who will live in the home. Those who have dined at Boston’s on the Beach in Delray Beach, have most likely enjoyed a meal cooked by Antonine, a longtime Boston’s employee and the matriarch of the Antonine family who will earn and purchase the CEO Build home that is being built build.

All proceeds from the annual Boca Bacchanal weekend benefit the Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum and their mission to preserve, share and celebrate Boca Raton’s local history.

Through the nine-month long program, students in grades 6-12 generate business ideas, conduct market research, write business plans, pitch to a panel of investors, and launch their very own companies. YEA! is held from 4:30-7:30pm at Saint Andrews School every Wednesday from September 2017 through May 2018. For more information about the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, or how you can become involved as a sponsor or volunteer, contact Robert Halpern at (561) 395-4433 or rhalpern@bocachamber.com.

YEA! IS MADE POSSIBLE BY:

Martand Agarwal, Puppy Packs Martand, a Don Estridge sixth grader, is a competitive tennis player, engineer, and loyal fan of Shark Tank. He is pursuing his dream job as an entrepreneur. Martand saw a need in the market for pre-packaged and customizable first-aid kits for dogs. His product line will expand to travel kits and will focus on the safety, health, and wellbeing of the dog.

Casey Hill, Piston Trainer Casey, a sophomore at Boca Raton Community High School, has always exhibited a passion for music. She began playing trumpet in fourth grade and now plays over twenty instruments and composes her own music. Casey is developing the Piston Trainer, a device that teaches proper technique on piston-valve brass instruments.

GOLDEN BELL

GOLDEN BELL The Boca Chamber's Education Foundation The Golden Bell Education Foundation (Golden Bell) is in its 27th year of operation. Golden Bell is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that was created for the sole purpose of supporting the Boca Raton Public School System, grades K-12. Established by the Chamber’s Board of Directors, the Foundation funds educational programs that promote business skills. Each year, we invite all Boca Raton public schools to submit applications for a Golden Bell Grant. The grant cycle is open from January through April. Funds are awarded to deserving and innovative programs. We are pleased to announce that nearly $85,000 was awarded to Boca Raton public schools and scholarship programs in 2017! Since its inception in 1991, Golden Bell has granted $1.4 Million. The success of our organization is achieved through community support. Give the gift of education by donating to Golden Bell. To donate or learn more about Golden Bell, contact Robert Halpern at (561) 395-4433 or rhalpern@bocachamber.com

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Meet the Chamber's New Additions to the Board of Directors

November marks the start of the Boca Chamber's new fiscal year, and with the new year comes exciting changes. This year, we welcomed seven members to the Boca Chamber's Board of Directors who officially began their term on November 1. These men and women - combined with our existing 20 board members - represent the best and brightest in our community. It is their combined knowledge and experience that enables us to strengthen our mission - to promote and sustain economic prosperity in Boca Raton and South Palm Beach County. Their commitment and dedication continues to make Boca Raton the premiere location to do business - and the best place to live, work, learn and play. I am proud to announce this year's newest board members. Please see their photos and company affiliations listed to the right. 2017 marked an extremely successful year under the leadership of our Chair - Ethel Isaacs Williams, Senior Vice President, Development and Public Affairs at Kaufman Lynn Construction. We are fortunate and excited to have Ethel serve a second term as Chair this year. In addition, we welcome Jim Dunn (JM Lexus) onto the Executive Committee as the Treasurer. Mohamed Abdalla has joined the board to represent the Chamber's Professionals Under 40 (PULSE) Group.
