Moving Business Forward in Unprecedented Times South Palm Beach County has, and con nues to be, synonymous with an opulent lifestyle, business friendly environment, worldwide corporate headquarters, excep onal public and private educa on, world class healthcare and renowned beaches and parks. The Chamber executes on its core pillars – Connec ng Members, Advancing Commerce, Protec ng Business and Enhancing the Community, every day to ensure this unmatched quality of life is sustained in South Palm Beach County.

During pre-Covid mes, I would be wri ng about all the amazing events that were held during our annual Boca Chamber Fes val Days (BCFD). For the past three decades, BCFD, which is held during the en re month of August, is a program designed to raise awareness and much needed funds for our local non-profit members through fun-filled events. While we could not do it this year – that did not stop us. Realizing from the early stages of this pandemic that our non-profit members, who rely on private sector dona ons to provide cri cal services throughout South Palm Beach County, would be significantly impacted, we began our “Did You Know” campaign.

This mul faceted campaign u lizes social media and email as vehicles to help educate and inform the public about the important work our nonprofits do for our community. Today, this campaign con nues – providing tremendous value to our non-profit members.

With a high priority placed on educa on, the Chamber’s Golden Bell Educa on Founda on con nues to be a strong force in suppor ng our local Boca Raton public schools. Since its incep on in 1991, Golden Bell has granted over $1.7 million directly impac ng more than 800,000 students in grades K-12. During our virtual September Membership Breakfast, sponsored by Bluegreen Vaca ons, the founda on, proudly fulfilled 46 requests by twentyone schools totaling over $105,000! Thanks to the amazing generosity from our Chamber community and Immediate Past Chamber Board Chair, Susan Saturday and her husband Jim, who for the past several years have generously led the way by providing a matching dona on to the Chamber’s non-profit. You can read more about Golden Bell on page 16.

On Wednesday, September 23rd, the Chamber restored and refreshed a previously honored tradi on held by the Boynton Beach Chamberthe First Responder’s Luncheon. We had the privilege of honoring and recognizing a Boynton Beach Police Officer, Firefighter and EMT as selected by their departments. Thank you, Bap st Health and Boynton Beach Market CEO Nelson Lazo for your partnership and sponsorship of this amazing event. The commitment, dedica on, and personal sacrifice these brave public servants displayed in their service to the Boynton Beach community goes above and beyond - especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we approach the November General Elec on – “Your Voice is Your Vote”. We are one of a few countries with the right to vote, so we urge you to take advantage of that right. We encourage everyone to become educated on where the candidates stand on issues that will have an impact on you, your business and your community. Over the past several months, Board Members of the Chamber’s Business Leaders United Poli cal Ac on Commi ee (BLU-PAC) have been hard at work interviewing candidates for the upcoming November elec on. BLUPAC is not interested in the le ers D or R when it comes to poli cal candidates – it is interested in the le er B – for Business! It is important that any BLU-PAC endorsed candidate understands what it takes to operate a business and supports the Chamber’s South Palm Beach County Business Legisla ve Agenda. This agenda, and the dedicated work by the BLU-PAC Board members, help shape our businessfriendly climate and the advancement of commerce in South Palm Beach County. BOYNTON BEACH UPDATES NEW CITY HALL COMPLEX

On September 23rd, the Chamber celebrated a former tradition held by the Boynton Chamber in which a Boynton Beach Police Of cer, Fire ghter and EMT were recognized and honored. These rst responders were selected by their departments for outstanding service to their community. A special Thank You to Baptist Health (Bethesda East &West), Get Dry, ADT, and All Dry, USA for their support of this program.

On July 21st, the city of Boynton Beach celebrated the grand opening of it’s New City Hall complex!

Inside is a dedicated space for the newly created Innovation Center which will provide startups and entrepreneurs the support they need to grow. Business incubation can be a powerful tool for economic development and entrepreneurship because they specialize in helping start-ups and early stage businesses by providing much-needed resources like of ce space, legal counsel, access to nancing from venture capitalists and mentorship. They can also provide businesses with a supportive environment, one that can help increase their business. The City Hall and former high school became the rst two buildings within the new Town Square project to open.

Over the past ve months the Chamber has continued to provide its members educational, informative and networking virtual events. We were fortunate to host Beth Rapport, President with The Coalition of West Boynton Residential Association at the Government Affairs Committee meeting in August. She provided members with updates on developments in our western communities as well as shared the role that COWBRA serves its members and the county. Most recently, at our September meeting, the City of Boynton Beach, District II Commissioner, Woodrow Hay spoke about the Town Square project, economic development assistance programs for new businesses within the City and CRA boundaries and the several small business relief grants offered by the City and CRA. This content has helped Connect Members, Advance Commerce, Protect Businesses and Enhance the Community.

Please be on the lookout for all of the great Boynton Beach events such as: Lunch and Learn (2nd Wednesday of each month), Coffee Plus (3rd Thursday of each month), Government Affairs Council (4th Thursday of each month) and the Women’s Business Council (4th Friday of each month).

The Boca Chamber’s Golden Bell Education Foundation (Golden Bell) is in its 29th year of operation. As a 501c3 nonpro t organization, it exists for the sole purpose of supporting the Boca Raton public school system and administering educational programs that promote business skills and workforce readiness.

Established in 1991, Golden Bell has granted over $1.7 Million since its inception, and has impacted 800,000 students in grades K-12. Each year, we invite all Boca Raton public schools to submit applications for a Golden Bell grant during the grant cycle between February and April. This year, during out September Golden Bell Awards Breakfast, we awarded 46 grants totaling over $105,000 to 21 Boca Raton schools and scholarship programs!

YEA!

The YEA! Boca Chapter has produced a number of successful teens that have grown in leadership and entrepreneurship. Our most notable is Rachel Zietz, founder and CEO of Gladiator Lacrosse, which sells lacrosse equipment and related sports products. She established her company as a participant of the YEA! program in 2012 and was featured on ABC’s “Shark Tank” at the age of 15. Currently, as a 20 year old student at Princeton University, Rachel continues to work on growing her business around her class schedule.

A PROGRAM OF THE BOCA CHAMBER'S GOLDEN BELL EDUCATION FOUNDATION The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is an exciting program that transforms local, middle and high school students into entrepreneurs. YEA!’s mission is to help students embrace their passion, energy, creativity, and talents to launch a venture as they view entrepreneurship synonymously with success and freedom. Through the nine-month long curriculum, students work in close cooperation with local leaders of industry, community members, and educators to develop life skills, generate business ideas, conduct market research, and write business plans to launch their very own companies.

This year’s program will launch virtually beginning in October. The program will extend 20 weeks until the end of February culminating with a shark tank style event as students pitch their ideas to a panel of investors for funds to support their business venture.

Gladiator Lacrosse has grown its revenue in the excess of $2 million including sales through Amazon, Dick’s Sporting Good, and Walmart.

Her company also became the of cial goal sponsor for the World Lacrosse Championship.

Rachel has been featured in many publications, including The New York Times, South Florida Business Journal, Entrepreneur Magazine, Fortune Magazine’s online Broad Sheet page, Inc.com, and Kidpreneur.

Rachel's story, and many others, were possible with the help of supporters.
