Continuing to Connect As we begin 2021, we are ready to start the New Year with a renewed sense of energy and vigor to make the largest impacts for our Members by delivering on our four core pillars: Connecting Members, Advancing Commerce, Protecting Business and Enhancing the Community. Each November, the Chamber transitions into a new fiscal year and welcomes new leadership to the Chamber’s Board of Directors. This past year we all experienced unprecedented times. In the Chamber’s 69-year history, no other Board of Directors has been faced with a national pandemic lasting almost an entire year. We have been very fortunate to have had the steady leadership of Chairman Michael Daszkal and a wealth of professional experience from our entire Board of Directors. I am thrilled to report that Chairman Daszkal has agreed to serve a second term as our Board leader. We are also fortunate to have additional leaders join our Board. Turn to page 6 to see our newest Board members. This month we will celebrate our second-year anniversary of

the merger between the Boca Raton and Boynton Beach Chambers of Commerce. The merger has helped us expand our mission of Promoting and Sustaining Economic Prosperity in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, and all of South Palm Beach County. Connecting our two communities has proven to be extremely successful. Turn to page 4 to hear directly from four local Boynton Beach business owners on how the Chamber has helped them connect. This past year the Chamber went beyond its traditional means of connecting members while still proudly delivering the many opportunities to connect that our members have come to expect from the Boca Chamber. Utilizing technology, we held hundreds of hours of virtual programs and experiences, as well as our committees, vertical groups and leads groups meetings. However, we also continued to use or traditional tools of connecting members through our quarterly and annual publications, ribbon cuttings and unlimited marketing opportunities. Our ability to successfully connect members to one another has been a lifeboat to so many of our businesses and has helped strengthen the local economies in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach and South Palm Beach County. These strategic connections help foster a community of prosperity which is what makes this region the best place to live, work, learn and play.

CONNECTING Michelle Jackson, Get Dry Being the Chair for the Ambassadors in the Boynton Beach area has given me so many opportunities to connect with wonderful Chamber Members. I think the best part to me is not necessarily finding a connection for myself or my business, but when I can connect other members who need each other. Being an Ambassador, and especially the Chair, puts me front and center in meetings and events, with special mentions that promote my business. I love to be the first smile a new Member or visitor gets and to welcome them. I was brought up in a town in Indiana where being a Chamber Member was held with most prestige. That drove me to Chamber Membership very early in my business career. It has proved to be very beneficial and I continue my hometown feeling of pride.

The Chamber and Leads group has allowed me to keep in touch with what's happening in business and the community of Boynton Beach, Boca Raton and all of South County especially in this difficult year of Covid. The Group and Chamber adapted to using Zoom for meetings which actually made it convenient to attend meetings with my busy schedule. The group has introduced me to other members of the business community who have similar goals of building my practice, and business network of other like-minded business owners and professionals.

As Co-Chair of the Women’s Business Council, I have the opportunity to bring together a group of wonderful professional women. Knowing the nature of each member business, I encourage 1:1 connections and those who would be good strategic partners. Being Co-Chair also allows me the ability to mention Women’s Business Council at other Chamber events, which I believe adds more recognition and credibility to my own business. Therefore, it’s a win-win for everyone!
As Chair of the PowerNetworking Leads Group, my responsibility is to make connections the benefit for each individual member of my group. The most important first step is to have everyone have a one on one. It's equally important to know someone personally as well as professionally. This has allowed me to know more about the business and whether or not a specific referral is a good fit. It also helps drive group cohesiveness which in turn allows referrals to flow more freely.

DELRAY BEACH OPEN BY VITACOST.COM TO OPEN 2021 TENNIS SEASON The Delray Beach Open by VITACOST.com will be a season-opening event on the ATP Tour following a date change moving the tournament to January 4-13. “The City of Delray Beach along with our tournament staff worked very quickly to take advantage of this chance to play host to a season-opening event,” said Tournament Director Mark Baron. “The players are eager to get back to playing in tournaments and we are happy to provide that opportunity. We look forward to welcoming them as well as our fans to a healthy and safely produced event in a few short weeks.” Originally scheduled for February, the 2021 Delray Beach Open by VITACOST.com will feature the ATP Champions Tour legends event Jan. 4-6, which will run concurrently with the ATP 250 qualifying matches on Jan. 5-6. The main draw for the ATP 250 tournament, which will feature 28 players in singles and 16 teams in doubles, will begin Thursday, Jan. 7 with two sessions each day until the finals are contested during a single session on Wednesday, Jan. 13. “These are unprecedented times, and I would like to thank the tournament organizers for their willingness to adapt by moving into week one of the ATP Tour calendar at such short notice,” said ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi. “Providing playing opportunities for our players and ensuring our sport is delivered to fans worldwide in a safe and secure environment is our number one priority. It’s only with an entrepreneurial mindset that we can achieve our goals, and full credit goes to Mark Baron and his team for taking on this opportunity to launch the 2021 ATP Tour season. We wish them all the best for a successful week.” All tickets for the “Physically Distanced, Forever Social” event at the historic downtown tennis center are on sale now at www.yellowtennisball.com or by phone at +1 561-3306000. In order to accommodate spacious conditions in the stadium and throughout the venue, attendance for each session at the 2021 tournament will be capped at 2,000 people, just under 25 percent of the outdoor stadium’s total capacity. Last year, Delray Beach resident Reilly Opelka served a tournament record 99 aces during the week in which he won his second career ATP Tour title. In doubles Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan captured their sixth Delray Beach Open by VITACOST.com title and their 119th as a team. It was the final tournament for the twin brothers who announced their retirement in August. In the opening weekend’s ATP Champions Tour matches, Team Europe, led by Tommy Haas and David Ferrer, earned a 5-2 win over the James Blake-led Team World. This marked the third straight defeat for the home nation in ATP Champions Tour competition at Delray Beach. Following the season-opening Delray Beach Open by VITACOST.com, players will travel to Australia for the rescheduled Australian Open. While these dates mark the earliest that the Delray Beach Open by VITACOST.com has been held, it will not be first time the tournament has seen action in January. On three occasions, 2005-07, the tournament began in January before concluding in February. The tournament was held in May from 1993 through 1999, in March from 2000-2003, in September 2004 and has been contested in February since 2005. In an ever-changing world the tournament will maintain the highest level of health and safety standards for fans, players and staff alike.
FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS BOCA RETURNS MARCH 6-14, 2021
Sunday, March 8, 2020. We are sitting together with thousands of spectators at Mizner Park Amphitheatre in Boca Raton, enjoying what felt like a big party, presented by the band Postmodern Jukebox. The event capped Festival of the Arts Boca’s incredibly successful 14th season, bringing the best performing artists and authors/ lecturers to South Florida. We were all packed like sardines, without masks, on that balmy March evening. We had a vague feeling that something was going on, but we never imagined that it would be the last public event any of us would attend for a very long time. Sure enough, within a few days, the entire country was on lockdown. And then in September our beloved co-founder Charlie Siemon passed away. It was a very low point in an already low year. Yet Charlie would be proud that, despite COVID, his life’s mission of bringing the arts to everyone lives on: Festival Boca will return for a hybrid live/virtual festival from March 6-14, 2021. And, paradoxically, this will allow us to reach a larger worldwide audience than ever before, with a parade of stars. From Met Opera sensation and Boca native NADINE SIERRA to Grammy winners violinist JAMES EHNES and jazz flutist NESTOR TORRES, to authors SONIA SHAH and JAMES STAVRIDIS and the Festival’s all-stars under Music Director CONSTANTINE KITSOPOULOS, the Festival's events will be streamed for free from iconic locations showcasing the beauty and magic of South Florida. We hope that you will be able to join us virtually, until we can meet again.

The South Palm Beach County Legislative Agenda sets priority issues and regional advocacy in motion for our City Council, County Commission, State Legislators and U.S. Congressional leaders during the 2021 sessions. The Boca Chamber, South Palm Beach County’s voice for business, has created its annual Legislative Agenda. It was developed based on input from a dozen entities including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the Palm Beach County Business Development Board and The Boca Chamber membership.

BELOW ARE SOME KEY ISSUES THE CHAMBER WILL BE FOCUSING ON THIS YEAR: • Support efforts to create standard operating procedures (such as we have for hurricanes) for The City of Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach County and State of Florida for health and safety threats with prescribed actions aligned with data benchmarks. • Advocate that business taxes and fees remain unchanged. • Ensure tourism revenue generating cities receive equitable allocation of tourism investment. • Support efforts to increase opportunities for Palm Beach State College and
Palm Beach County School District to collaborate on career, certificate, vocational and apprenticeship programs to ensure that students are college and/or work ready. • Support legislation with a retroactive effective date of January 1, 2020, that provides blanket immunity for employers from liability lawsuits related to any aspect of COVID 19. • Support legislation that enables Florida to collect online sales tax from companies without a physical presence in Florida. YEA! The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is an exciting program that transforms local middle and high school students into entrepreneurs. YEA!’s direct mission is to help students embrace their passion, energy, creativity, and talents to launch a venture as they view entrepreneurship synonymous with success and freedom. Through the nine-month long curriculum, students work in close cooperation with local leaders of industry, community members, and educators to develop life skills, generate business ideas, conduct market research, and write business plans to launch their very own companies. The program culminates with a shark tank style event as students pitch their ideas to a panel of investors for funds to support their business venture.

Christian, a seventh grader with Florida Virtual Schools, is a very innovative budding entrepreneur. Due to his love of teaching his peers and younger students, Christian created a second business endeavor after his first company, Teen Chess. He recognized the importance of his peers learning financial basics in a fun way as a break from the computer screen.
Leah, an 8th grader at Wellington Landings Middle, is big on health but also likes sweets. Her love of baking and sharing with friends and neighbors caused her to create her company. She was also aware of healthy conscious people who may want sweets but aren’t able to get them. With her team, she will make great tasting vegan baked goods to deliver to those in her community.
