FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Ensuring Prosperity by Protecting Business “The Chamber does things that people think just happen.” I learned this saying long ago early in my career. After 25 years, I know exactly how things happen! South Palm Beach County’s robust business culture, powerful entrepreneurial ecosystem, exceptional educational institutions, world class healthcare, pristine beaches and parks — and much more — happen because of the powerful leadership serving on the Boards of Directors of the Chamber, its education foundation and political action committee. It is through their collective efforts and vision to PROTECT BUSINESS through promoting and sustaining economic prosperity in our region that we enjoy an unmatched quality of life. Under that leadership umbrella is a talented, tenured and tenacious team of professionals working diligently to protect these critical regional assets and systems and drivers of the economy. Through monitoring, advocating, and educating our elected officials and community leaders at the municipal, county and state levels, we are able to make those things happen. The Boca Raton and Boynton Beach Government Affairs Committees convene each month with Chamber members to learn about and focus on issues or legislation that impact economic development activity and overall quality of life in Florida and, in particular, South Palm Beach County. These committees, along with the economic development and tourism committees, gather and analyze large amounts of information and make recommendations to the Chamber’s Board of Directors for the creation of the Annual Business Legislative Agenda. This agenda is the foundation of our educational and advocacy efforts when speaking for the business community to our government administrators and elected leaders.

President & CEO Troy M. McLellan

"The Chamber does things that people think just happen."

Those elected leaders play a critical role in determining the future direction of South Palm Beach County. Infrastructure development, entrepreneurial support, and regional cooperation are all critical components to our region’s economic success. The Chamber’s political arm, BLU-PAC (Business Leaders United Political Action Committee), exists to endorse, fund and support candidates who share our views on the important issues outlined in the Legislative Agenda. The most effective way to PROTECT and support your business is to elect those candidates who align with the Chambers business, pro-prosperity philosophy. To learn more about our road to advocacy, turn to page 6. The Chamber also PROTECTS business by supporting the critical missions of our non-profit organizations through Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD). BCFD is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year! Back in 1977, the economic engine in Boca Raton slowed down significantly during the summer months. The Chamber wanted to create something to bolster business and generate commerce, while also supporting the non-profit community. That’s how the monthlong BCFD program was born. Each August, our for-profit members pair with non-profit members to help bring much needed awareness and funding to the missions of our non-profit members. Please visit our website events page (www.bocachamber.com/events) for the more than 20 events that are listed on our calendar and support our members at their fun events! To learn more about BCFD, turn to page 4. PROTECTING business through investing in our future workforce is imperative to the overall economic development of our region. For over 30 years, your Chamber has supported Boca Raton Public Schools through its very own charitable non-profit organization – The Golden Bell Education Foundation. In those three decades, Golden Bell has provided nearly $2 million in grants that have flowed through hundreds of classrooms and served thousands of students. These grants provide valuable programming in the areas of career awareness, career exploration, and career preparation. Today’s students are tomorrow’s employees. By investing in our students and their education system, we ensure a strong labor force for the future. To learn more about Golden Bell, turn to page 14. Together, we continue to PROTECT BUSINESS in South Palm Beach County, making our region the best place to Live, Work, Learn and Play. Moving Business Forward,

Troy M. McLellan, CCE, FCCP President & CEO Connection Magazine | 3

QA &

What does protecting business mean to you?

Jackie Reeves, Chair, Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce Managing Director, Bell Rock Capitol, LLC To me, PROTECTING BUSINESS means creating and maintaining a business-friendly environment. A business-friendly environment includes low regulation and fair tax levels. It includes publicprivate partnerships to develop talent and advanced education for accreditations to keep talent engaged and growing. A businessfriendly environment includes a well-rounded and vibrant community. A vibrant community provides diversity of thought and leadership, has parks, recreation, arts, theatre, sports, entertainment, and a strong commitment to the non-profit sector. These things don’t “just-happen” - they are the result of the Chamber Team’s hard work and advocacy efforts each day.

Troy McLellan, President & CEO, Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce A healthy cycle of commerce creates economic prosperity. A committed and engaged group of business leaders sustains that prosperity. Whether it is the CEO of a Fortune 500 major employer organization or an entrepreneur of a small start-up company — leadership is what protects business. The Boca Chamber and its two affiliate organizations, BLU-PAC and Golden Bell, are the conduits for that leadership to engage and advocate for the interests of the business community. The Chairs of the Boards of all three organizations lead groups of dedicated professionals who understand the critical connection between business, politics and education and the importance of each of these systems play in overall economic prosperity. By protecting the interests of the business community, we are protecting the interests of the community at large. This collective effort allows our region to continue to be the best place to Live, Work, Learn and Play. 10| Connection Magazine

Maureen Jaeger, Chair, Business Leaders United Political Action Committee (BLU-PAC) Director, Community Relations and Client Relationship Management, Gunster It is the responsibility of the Board of Directors for Business Leaders United, Political Action Committee (BLU-PAC) to support candidates who will be proponents of the business community. BLU-PAC has made it a priority to help elect state and local candidates who truly understand the need to support job growth and economic development – and defeat those who do not. BLU-PAC offers the business community organized influence to elect candidates who advocate policies that ensure economic certainty and contribute to a positive business climate. BLU-PAC ensures that the endorsed candidates will put-forth and support legislation that encourages business growth. As businesses succeed, jobs and the tax base rise, which raises the wellness of our community as a whole.

Chuck Stout, Chairman, Golden Bell Education Foundation President & CEO, CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services As Chairman of the Boca Chamber’s Golden Bell Education Foundation, I feel we have a responsibility to ensure our public schools receive the resources they need to remain "A rated" in order to provide the best education for our future leaders. These schools are preparing the workforce of tomorrow to be productive employees, entrepreneurs and good citizens. Golden Bell provides grant money to our public schools to help teachers supplement classroom materials and lesson plans needed in today’s educational environment. Boca Raton schools offer several amazing academies such as culinary, medical science, drafting & design and computer science to name just a few. Students who participate in these academies learn real life skills which employers are looking for today. These students will help protect our local business environment by learning skills to help businesses grow and expand. In addition to fulfilling grants to local public schools, Golden Bell also oversees the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA). YEA teaches students in grades 6-12 how to start a real business. These students have mentors who give them “real world” guidance in order to write a business plan, formulate a budget and other details of running a business. Our hope is by teaching and training local students, they will remain in South Florida and contribute to the economic vitality of South Palm Beach County.

"A Leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way" - John Maxwell

Each year the Boca Chamber of Commerce offers an opportunity for Chamber members to participate in the coveted Leadership Boca Program. Leadership Boca creates an experience for likeminded individuals to become more aware of what is available in Boca Raton, its economic impact in Palm Beach County, and what makes Boca Raton so exceptional.

Leadership Boca 2023 Applications are Now Open!

During this year’s journey, the Class of 2022 created lasting relationships with local business leaders, city officials, volunteers and most importantly each other. They were given the opportunity to meet charitable organizations on Human Services Day such as The Place of Hope, Boca Helping Hands, the YMCA, the Habilitation Center and more. They learned about the voids these organizations fill and how they make a difference in our own backyard. The Class of 2022 also had the opportunity to meet and engage with experts in the fields of government, media, health care, environment, agriculture, education, culture, tourism, business, and more to experience the big picture of our community. We are excited to expand, leverage and promote leadership resources in our community to connect with the next talented group of business individuals.
