Enhancements for the Community
The key to the Chamber’s success is the successful execution of its mission. This mission is to promote and sustain economic prosperity in Boca Raton and South Palm Beach County. We deliver the mission under the framework of our core pillars — Connecting Members, Advancing Commerce, Protecting Business and Enhancing the Community. In this issue, we focus on Enhancing the Community. We share how we pair nonprofit organizations together with for-profit businesses to raise awareness and funds for the non-profits through our annual program — Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD). We also cover the important role the Chamber's Education Foundation, Golden Bell, plays in our community through its support of the public school system.
For the past 45 years, BCFD has delivered a monthly program to provide exposure and an opportunity to raise critical funding for our local non-profit members through fun-filled events. Traditionally, the month of August was a slow period here in South Florida. To generate commerce and create fun connection opportunities, the Chamber leadership focused on helping the many non-profit members that serve our community. By partnering them with a member for-profit and using the assistance of the many Chamber resources, the two business members created a fun and engaging fundraising event. What came to life are events like Salsa Night, Lip Sync Battle, Celebrity Cook-Off, Boca's Got Talent, Margarita Monday, How to Build the Perfect Charcuterie Board, Make Your Own Mug, Bowling for Bread, Celebrity Game Night, Comedy Night, Museum Block Party and a Tour of the Boca Raton, to name a few. This special blend of fun and fundraising is a unique experience enjoyed by the thousands of participants each year. Our communities are enriched by the work of these non-profits and the professionals within them. You can view more information about BCFD on page 4.
The Chamber is dedicated to Enhancing our Community through our very own charitable non-profit, The Golden Bell Education Foundation. This year, the Foundation distributed over $100,000 in grants to 24 Boca Raton public schools in grades K-12! Since its inception 31years ago, Golden Bell has donated nearly $2 million back into hundreds of classrooms that have supported tens of thousands of students. These grants help educate our future leaders by funding programs that develop business and career skills. Without the support of our members and sponsors, we would not be able to make such a positive impact in our local school system. You can view all the grant recipients on page 15.
In addition to the important grant process, The Golden Bell Education Foundation also delivers a unique entrepreneurial experience for students in grades 6-12 called the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!). 2022 marks the 11th year of the YEA! program, where students participate in a 7-month after-school journey that walks them through the process of starting and operating their own REAL businesses. The Golden Bell Education Foundation launched the first YEA! program in the state of Florida in 2011 and has since grown and developed hundreds of students to reach their ultimate potential. You can read about Six Budding Entrepreneurs who participated in the past year's YEA! classes on pages 10-11. We can't wait to see what this year's academy students bring to the Shark Tank style table!
Not only does Golden Bell turn young entrepreneurs into leaders, it also turns professionals into rock stars! The awesome work of Golden Bell can be seen in its premiere annual fundraising event — Golden Bell Battle of the Bands - Rocked by Truist. The Season 4 line-up of bands, 4 Chicks & A Dude, Emotional Damage, 49 Fingers and Six on The Beach, had a chance to compete for the coveted Golden Bell Guitar Trophy! Turn to page 8 to see this year's winning band and overall top individual fundraiser, along with some incredible moments captured from the event.
It is the Chamber’s programs that tie us together and encourage people to be a part of a membership that recognizes the importance of service, leadership, and prosperity. As a result, we are leading the way to a successful future and keeping South Palm Beach County the best place to Live, Work, Learn & Play.

Boca Chamber Festival Days - Highlights of the Month
It all started in 1977 with a spark of an idea. Now that idea is known as Boca Chamber Festival Days and it happens every August in Boca Raton.
Forty-five years ago, Boca business slowed down in August and the Chamber wanted to do something to create commerce for its businesses and at the same time, help non-profits. Events of all shapes and sizes happened all month long with two goals in mind –exposure for the non and for profit and much needed funds for the nonprofit.
This past August, we brought you 20 events, raising money for 17 non-profit organizations with the help of some of our for-profit Chamber members. Over $175,000 was raised thanks to those who sponsored and attended these fun-filled events! This year’s non-profit organizations were:
Achievement Center for Children & Families
Alzheimer's Association SE Florida Chapter American Association of Caregiving Youth Baptist Health League of Ribbons Best Foot Forward
Boca Helping Hands Boca Museum of Art Brain Bowl Events Inc. ChildNet Inc.
Golden Bell Education Foundation Hispanic Entrepreneur Initiative - HEI KidSafe
Nat King Cole Generation Hope Second Chance Initiative The Hanley Foundation
The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum

The Golden Bell Battle of the Bands contestants showed up and rocked out on Saturday, September 24th at Lynn University. These contestants dedicated their entire summer to learning a new musical instrument and raising funds for the Golden Bell Education Foundation. We had a devoted group this year and their hard work truly paid off.
Our first group, 4 Chicks & A Dude performed Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin. The four chicks are Jill Glanzer with Signature Real Estate Finder, LLC, Mandy Forrester from On Target Digital Marketing Agency, Tracie Swanson with The Swanson Team, and Yojany Vargas from the Wyndham Hotel Boca Raton. The ‘Dude’ of the group is Mario Bai from Summit Law Group. They opened the show with a Whole Lotta Love and a whole lot of leather as they brought the crowd to their feet!
Next, we had Six on the Beach, who performed Rockin’ in the Free World by Neil Young. This group comprised Genie Lieberman from Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Ivan Baron with the Delray Beach Open, J.C. Perrin with Seacoast Bank, Joe Biase from Urology Center of South Florida, and Shoshana Davidowitz from the Delray Beach Playhouse. They had guest star, Neil Young, join them on stage (in cardboard cut-out form).
Our third band, Emotional Damage, performed I Hate Myself for Loving You by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. These rockstars were Brittany Parish from Habitat for Humanity South Palm Beach County, Emily Lawless with Allegiance Home Health, John Schwencke with Lavelle, Ronan, Brown, Schwencke, PLL and Michael Mohl from Senior Helpers. You could feel the passion and torment as they played their hearts out and gave the show their all!
Season 4 Winning Band 49 Fingers
Lastly, we had 49 Fingers. They performed All The Small Things by Blink 182. Their musicians were Brianna Silva from the YMCA, Katie Vaughan with Plum Productions, Michael Nathanson with The Nathanson Brothers Real Estate Team, Travis Bryan from the Boca Raton Airport Authority, and Samir Changela with Rara’s Pizza & Wings. 49 Fingers turned the lights off and carried us home as they closed out the show.
Our top fundraiser, Shoshana Davidowitz, raised over $12,000 in dona tions for the Golden Bell Education Foundation. Our top performing band, 49 Fingers, will be back next year for their encore performance!
The Golden Bell Education Foundation and the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce are both so proud and grateful for our rock stars as they are helping us make a difference in Boca Raton public schools. Collectively they raised over $40,000 in donations for the Golden Bell Education Foundation.
Season 4 Top Fundraiser Shoshana Davidowitz
Thank you to our business partners who sponsored Truist’s Season 4 of Golden Bell Battle of the Bands, we couldn’t do it without you!

Environment
Ananya YEA! Class of '22
There are many things that have inspired me to be an entrepreneur, however, the one that stands out is this - when you look out into the world, there are so many people who have created a product or service that has changed the world. They all have something in common - an idea. I am inspired to bring an idea to reality to have an impact.
I want to introduce upcycled jewelry to the world to make my contribution to improving the environment. I believe environmental awareness has increased significantly in recent years and this prod uct will be attractive to a growing segment of people. My goal is to make it affordable and attractive. I hope we can all recycle more and address more environmental problems.
Someone I admire very much is Oprah Winfrey. She grew up in a poor family but persevered to overcome many obstacles, discover her passion, and become one of the most successful women entrepreneurs in the world.
Christian YEA! Class of '20 & '21
Creativity
Teaching
I wish to help people, more specifically, develop their minds. That is why I launched teenchess. com. It's a website to help people develop their minds and teach focus.
I wish to bring my knowledge of history to others. My latest idea for business is to start a history podcast and/or tutoring service. I believe my love for teaching others will carry over to the podcast arena.
Someone who inspired me is Eric Lamb. He owns Windy City Pizza. He's a great person because he helps feed the homeless in Delray Beach. He's also taken me under his wing and has helped train me to be a pizza chef. He contributes to his community and that is why I look up to him.
Robyn YEA! Class of '22
My long term goal is to preserve and expand nature by integrating nature into more aspects of life. I think that as we develop into a world run by artifical intelligence, the human and natural aspects of our world need not become artifical. I believe that being an entrepreneur will allow me to do this and accomplish any goal I have later in life for improving the world.
Recently, I have become interested in 3D modeling, and learning to use the software program Blender. In addition to 3D modeling, the course taught me what it takes to make a course fun and engaging. I plan to apply my new skills in 3D animation to my Recipe Bounce. Recipe Bounce is a business I created through YEA!
I admire Walt Disney for having an imagination and bringing it to life. I am a big fan of Disney Parks and the environments they've created inspire me to believe in myself. I am thankful to Disney for inspiring me!

Entrepreneurs making a difference today and tomorrow!
Nicholas YEA! Class of '22
Transportation
What has inspired me to want to be an entrepreneur is that running a business is like a jigsaw puzzle. It will always keep you on your toes and you never know what's gonna happen, which I find exciting.
I want to introduce a product that changes transportation forever. Everyone talks about how much better it could be but no one does anything and that's where I come in.
I admire Elon Musk because his early success gave him the opportunity to have greater success which he completely capitalized on. How he brought Tesla from where it was in 2004 to where it is now is simply genius.
Talia YEA! Class of '22Solutions
Before I even learned what the word "entrepreneur" meant, I had a drive to fix problems. But the question for myself was, what? With the COVID pandemic, I had a lot of time on my hands and I created a Rube Goldburg machine to turn off my light switch. The next month I created a series of escape rooms in our house to bring my family together.
Most recently, I have created something to calm nerves for young and old. I have created painting kits that teach color-mixing. I believe they should be handed out in nursing homes and schools alike. I consider myself the glue and hope to be the problem solver who can make meaningful contributions to help humanity, a social entrepreneur.
I admire my Uncle Damon. He is my favorite entrepreneur and mentor. In approximately ten years he created a logistics supply chain company called Shipwire. He grew the company and sold it. He is remembered for helping small business compete with larger companies.
Andrew YEA! Class of '22
Global Warming
I was inspired to be an entrepeneur the moment I started seeing opportunities all around me to create solutions to make things better. The opportunities I look for are focused on helping the planet, finding good energy sources and to trying to minimize global warming.
I am most excited about my latest idea to create a renewable wind energy source. This is important because I see the possibilities for it to help minimize the use of Fossil Fuels which would help reduce global warming.
I look up to many of the creators in car engineering technology such as Henry Ford, Walter Chrysler and Ferdinand Porsche. The reason is they were marvels in engineering technology for their time!

September was the most exciting month of the year for the Golden Bell Education Foundation. We had the Annual September Membership Breakfast on Thursday, September 8th, where we awarded our Golden Bell grants to deserving recipients. The Golden Bell Education Foundation awards grants to Boca Raton public schools for business skills and workforce readiness programs. For the 202223 school year, we funded 57 grants to 24 schools, totaling over $100,000.
In addition to the business community and Chamber members, over 75 teachers, principals, and school board officials attended the breakfast. This breakfast is not only a chance for us to show the devotion of our Foundation, but it is truly an opportunity to bring our community together. We have donors, business partners, sponsors, and grant recipients all in one room. While the programs are usually about local businesses, this breakfast gives our business community the opportunity to hear from and think about our local schools in Boca Raton.
Did you know that the Palm Beach County School District is ranked #10 in the country? We were fortunate to hear from Superintendent Mike Burke about the latest on the Palm Beach County School District. The brand-new Blue Lake Elementary School in Boca Raton became the 180th school in the District this fall. The Golden Bell Education Foundation is proud to provide this platform for the school district and advocate for them on behalf of our local children.
We had the opportunity to hear about the impact of our grant first-hand from Isaiah Rene, a 5th grade student at Whispering Pines Elementary School. Isaiah bravely stood in front of 200+ adults and told us how the S.P.I.R.E. reading intervention program changed how he reads. He used to struggle with reading, but S.P.I.R.E. has given him confidence – all thanks to the Golden Bell Education Foundation grant Whispering Pines Elementary received!
Through "Text to Give" and raffle sales at the Golden Bell Breakfast, we raised almost $8,000 to help Boca Raton public schools. Our "Text to Give" is open all year long as we constantly work to raise funds for Boca Raton public schools and our future leaders. Any amount helps us help Boca Raton schools flourish!
The Foundation would not have made the impact it has without the support of our community. Supporting schools today, developing leaders tomorrow.
Help us grant ALL requests by donating to the Foundation. Call 561-395-4433 ext 232 or email Liz at lnicastro@bocachamber.com

Ryan began teaching entrepreneurship to rural high school students in Illinois in 2011. After moving to Ocala, Florida in 2013 he began organiz ing an annual High School Business Plan competition which secured nearly $20,000 in local prize monies and ran for 9 years. He also created a how-to guide for other communities considering business plan competitions and has also spoken on the importance of youth entrepreneurship at TEDx and conferences.
Ryan has helped 1,500+ entrepreneurs one-on-one and another 5,000+ in workshops in three U.S. states over the last twelve years. He has worked with both traditional small businesses and technology startups while in university-run incubators, city government, chambers of commerce, and various economic devel opment organizations.
Previous to Global Ventures, Ryan served as Vice President of the Ocala Metro Chamber & Economic Partnership in Ocala, Florida for nine years. There he oversaw an incubator and entrepreneurship initiatives throughout the Ocala Metro area. Ryan’s background also includes launching incubators in Illinois and in his home state of Virginia.
We are so happy that Ryan will be teaching and prepping our YEA! students this season. Welcome to the team, Ryan!
