In 2019, The Chamber strongly supported Brightline in their efforts to create a high-speed train stop in Boca Raton. As our region continues to attract new businesses, residents and visitors, a reliable and convenient alternative transportation system connecting us to major destinations across the state of Florida is critical to our continued success.

LOOKING AHEAD, BOCA WILL HAVE ITS NEW STATION BY THE END OF THIS YEAR! WE SAT DOWN WITH PATRICK GODDARD, PRESIDENT OF BRIGHTLINE TRAINS AND ASKED HIM TO SHARE HIS THOUGHTS ABOUT BOCA, BRIGHTLINE'S STRATEGIC PRIORITIES AND THE FUTURE OF MASS-TRANSIT IN OUR COUNTY.

Patrick Goddard, President, Brightline Trains

Explain how Brightline is changing the way Floridians think about travel.

The world of transportation is constantly evolving, but all of us continue to be stuck in our cars for too many hours each day. Brightline is the smarter, simpler, safer and more relaxed way to get to your destination. And it is the only modern, eco-friendly intercity rail system in the country.

Why Boca? What made you decide to build a station in Boca Raton?

As a premier business and leisure destination, Boca Raton is a perfect fit for Brightline. Located across from Mizner Park, the area is a favorite for visitors and a well-recognized place to do business. Combined with the fact that it is squarely in the middle of our Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale stations, it made perfect sense.

The Chamber’s Leadership and Members strongly and publicly supported Brightline’s advancement into Boca Raton. How did this help ensure a Boca Raton Brightline Station? I love the phrase “it takes a village” because it is true. The entire city of Boca Raton rolled out the “yellow” carpet for Brightline but it is safe to say that the Chamber worked as hard as anyone to make this station a reality. Hats off to Troy McLellan, Sarah Pearson and the entire team who helped make this happen. To make a project of this size and scale happen, you need a lot of support and we look forward to working with the Chamber for many years to come.

What should someone expect when they ride on the train? How Does it differ from other trains?

First, I would invite everyone to take a ride on the Brightline. When people walk into our stations and onto our trains for the first time, it is definitely an “aha” moment.

We are building a transportation experience guided by hospitality and comfort. It is almost the exact opposite of traditional experiences provided by legacy airlines and other trains. Everything we typically experience is dreary, gray and doesn’t meet expectations. At Brightline our environment is bright, full of energy and you’ll be greeted by a welcoming crew of teammates.
