FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
Growth In A Pro-Business Climate Since 1952, the Boca Chamber has worked diligently and strategically to ensure your business thrives in a pro-business environment. Through developing and promoting policy positions on critical issues, we have established ourselves as a leading business advocate in the state by representing and protecting our members from Boca Raton to Tallahassee. These efforts include: engaging elected officials in meaningful policy discussions on your behalf, to provide a pro-business climate from Boca Raton to Boynton Beach. We don’t stop there – we understand the need to bring our members together with our legislators to convey the important pro-business priorities outlined in our legislative agenda. This past March we did just that! We traveled to Tallahassee with 18 of our business leaders, Chamber Executives and Elected officials to discuss Florida’s transitioning economy. Furthermore, our Business Leaders United Political Action Committee (BLU-PAC) works to endorse, support and fund candidates who are in alignment with the Chamber’s legislative agenda while keeping the success of our local businesses at the forefront!
President & CEO Troy McLellan
It has been an exciting time of growth for the Boca Chamber "From Boca Raton To Boynton and our membership. You may have noticed that our Beach, your Chamber continues to calendar of events has grown, as well as the many new business opportunities that have appeared since our merger thrive and grow as one of the main announcement with Boynton Beach in January. This is reflective commerce hubs in our state" of a national trend of consolidation with local chambers combining forces to the mutual benefit of the broader business communities. This exciting partnership has provided great opportunities for our members. We continue to receive positive feedback from the collective membership, and hope you are taking advantage of this expanded marketplace! Looking ahead, you won’t want to miss three of our signature events happening this quarter on Thursday, May 16th. We are excited to announce the Boynton Beach Food, Wine & Brew Fest held at the historic Benvenuto Restaurant. This evening will feature some of Boynton’s finest restaurants and breweries, offering tastings of their signature dishes, craft beer, and wine. On Friday, May 24th join us at the Boca Raton Resort and Club as we honor top leaders at the 2019 Business Awards Luncheon. We are thrilled to recognize Roxana Scaffidi, owner of Florida Accounting & Advisers as our Small Business Leader of the Year; Sal Saldaña, General Manager of Town Center at Boca Raton as the Business Leader of the Year; and Plastridge Insurance Agency as the Business of the Year, aptly renamed Business of the Century as they celebrate their 100th year in business! Finally, join us on the golf course as we tee up for our 49th annual Boca Chamber Golf Classic, on Monday June 3rd at the Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club. From Boca Raton to Boynton Beach, your Chamber continues to thrive and grow as one of the main commerce hubs in our state. We continue to move forward as your advocate in maintaining a pro-business climate where we may all continue to succeed. Moving Forward,

This year's Leadership class is off to a roaring start! With 42 business professionals making up the class, there is never a dull moment on the bi-monthly field trips. Pictured to the left from top to bottom you will find (1) Leadership Boca class at the Office Depot Headquarters (2) Spending the day at Boca Helping Hands (3) Leadership Boca Class at FAU Tech Runway (4)Polen Capital
A LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Lookout Boca, Leadership 2019 is underway! As the 2019 Chair, I am very grateful to be on this incredible journey with fresh and talented leaders from our community. It has been such a privilege to learn about the people, places and organizations that make Boca Raton so exceptional. We are well underway, having already participated in Economic Development Day, where we had the opportunity to visit with some of our amazing corporate headquarters right here in Boca Raton including: Office Depot, ADT, NCCI, Modernizing Medicine, Tech Runway at FAU and newly headquartered company in Boca, Shoes for Crews! We also had the pleasure of hearing from Kelly Smallridge of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, who highlighted the great aspects of Boca Raton that make our city so desirable for future prospective companies. During Human Services Day we visited the Place of Hope, the Habilitation Center, Habitat for Humanity, the Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton, Boca Helping Hands, Florence Fuller, Junior League and the YMCA. This day was very eye opening for our leaders, and many were moved to find an organization that compels them to get immersed in a local cause. We are looking forward to our future sessions including: Environmental Day, Health Services Day, Media Day, Government Day, Education Day, Culture Day as well as Tourism Day. The Leadership Boca 2019 members will continue to gain insight into the opportunities in our local community to bridge gaps and optimize our resources for a better Boca Raton. I look forward to filling you in more as the rest of our crazy journey unfolds. Watch out Boca, we're coming to a stop near you! REGISTER FOR BCFD
BCFD 2019 Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD) is the Boca Chamber’s outreach to the nonprofit community. Nonprofit Chamber Members join forces with forprofit Chamber Members to hold a fun-filled event during the month of August! The goal is to raise awareness and funds for our nonprofit member’s philanthropic efforts. All month long, residents of South Palm Beach County will travel from event to event, participating in everything that is great about Boca Raton - from the smaller events to the grand! Events are allotted on a first-come, first served basis. While we cannot stop a second event from being held in a timeslot that already has an event scheduled, we strongly discourage it as we try to help each event get the maximum amount of attendees. Therefore, priority will be given to the first event to fill out and return the application with the $300 payment. All nonprofit event planners and sponsors must be members in good standing with the Boca Chamber. For more information, contact Alison Miuccio at amiuccio@bocachamber.com
SPONSOR Special thanks to the Boca Chamber Festival Days sponsor: Allegiance Home Health
THE BCFD LOGO Each year, students from West Boca Raton Community High School's Graphic Design Academy submit their artwork to be featured as the upcoming Boca Chamber Festival Days logo. This year, Paulo Dutra was chosen as the winner! We love his fun and playful take on BCFD, symbolized in his design. Paulo will be honored at the Chamber's April membership breakfast for his great design.

Meet Ken Lebersfeld
Q&A
Ken Lebersfeld CEO Capitol Lighting
Professional Growth Q: You have been immersed in the Boca Raton community for some time… What does it mean for you to be involved in this community and to ensure businesses can grow and flourish? A: Boca Raton has been very good to me professionally and personally. My business, Capitol Lighting has our corporate headquarters and a successful store in Boca Raton. I have raised my family and been part of this community in business and socially. I want to do everything I can to make sure Boca Raton thrives and that means ensuring that our local businesses thrive and act in a socially responsible way. We talk to our elected officials to make sure the local and state political leaders realize how important our businesses are to our community and all the citizens.
"I want to do everything I can to make sure Boca Raton Thrives." -Ken Lebersfeld
Family Business
Q: Why Capitol Lighting? Tell us where your passion stems from and how you’ve gotten where you are today? A: My great grandfather and grandfather started this business, so I am part of the 4th generation of Lebersfelds to guide Capitol Lighting. We began selling electric lighting fixtures when the first homes were being electrified. Our family and our family business are so intertwined. We have a passion for family and a passion for business. It’s not just a job. It’s a legacy and we take that very personally. Michael Corleone tells his brother in “The Godfather”, “It’s not personal, Sonny. it’s strictly business.” My brother and I never say that. We often say that in a family business, the dining room table and the board room table are the same table.
Giving Back
Q: What is your favorite memory within your time at Capitol Lighting? How have you gotten to where you are today? A: We have sponsored 2 Habitat for Humanity homes. We bring our team out to the jobsite and help build the house along side the future homeowners. That is one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have. A home is so important, and we are helping a family achieve that.
Creating New Experiences
Q: What is a memorable quote that has impacted your life and career? A: “The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he’s able to receive.” Albert Einstein
Mr. Ken Lebersfeld serves as Chief Executive Officer at Capitol Lighting. He is a member of the fourth generation of the Capitol Lighting family. He pioneered Capitol's first fully integrated computer system combining POS, A/R, A/P and Inventory management. He is involved in sales initiatives and training programs. He joined his family business immediately after his graduation from Emory University Business School. Ken Lebersfeld also sits on the Board of Directors for the Boca Chamber & BLU-PAC.

GOLDEN BELL THE GOLDEN BELL EDUCATION FOUNDATION EDUCATION FOUNDATION
The Golden Bell Education Foundation (Golden Bell) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that exists for the sole purpose of supporting the Boca Raton public school system and administering education programs that promote business skills and workforce readiness. Established in 1991, Golden Bell has granted $1.6 Million since its inception, and has impacted 800,000 students in grades K-12. Each year, we invite all Boca Raton public schools to submit applications for a Golden Bell grant. The grant cycle is open from February through April. Funds are awarded to deserving and innovative programs. We are pleased to announce that over $95,000 was awarded to Boca Raton public schools and scholarship programs in 2018! The success of our organization is achieved through individual and corporate support. Give the gift of education by donating to Golden Bell. To learn more about how you can support the mission of Golden Bell, contact Sherese James-Grow at (561) 395-4433 ext: 232 or sjamesgrow@bocachamber.com. 16| Connection Magazine
TESTIMONI A L “Thanks to the grant from Golden Bell, and their partnership with West Boca Medical Center, we are able to immerse our students in comprehensive hands on learning using x-ray light boxes and hospital beds for our Pre-Medical Academy. Amy Finneran Middle School Teacher Boca Raton Community Middle School The Golden Bell Education Foundation follows up with grantfunded schools each year, meeting with staff to see how they are putting their grant funds to use!
Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) A PROGRAM OF THE BOCA CHAMBER'S GOLDEN BELL EDUCATION FOUNDATION CEO Round Table and Elevator Pitch Competition
The YEA! CEO Round Table and Elevator Pitch Competition began the evening with five prominent CEOs leading a discussion on entrepreneurship with YEA! students and other attendees. The CEOs that shared their stories and expertise were Jason Emmett, President, Duffy's Sports Grill; Randy Nobles, CEO, Habitat for Humanity South Palm Beach County; Alex Oliviera, CEO, Prediq Media; Michael Orr, President, Minuteman Press; and Sam Zietz, CEO, TouchSuite. The latter half of the night culminated in the students participating in an Elevator Pitch Competition to present their business ideas in a compelling way in less than 60 seconds. First place went to Annika Sachdeva, a sixth grader at Pinecrest School, who pitched her idea of individually packaged sunscreen wipes called “SunStreaks.” Second place went to Max Gottbetter, an 11th grade student at Saint Andrews School who’s nonprofit called “Band For Relief” will help educate students and teachers within the school system on disaster relief. Third place went to Jameson Burmeister, a 12th grader at Boca Raton Community High School, who came up with an idea of value sized perforated bandages called “Infiniband.”
YEA! is Made Possible by: Our Generous Partners & Sponsors
2019 CLASS SPOTLIGHT Annika Sachdeva Annika, a sixth grade student at Pine Crest School, is a long distance runner that created a product for fellow athletes. From her many track competitions, she noticed that carrying a bottle of sunscreen was inconvenient. Her business idea, SunStreaks, produces individually packaged sunscreen wipes for athletes on the go.
Jameson Burmeister Jameson is an eleventh grade student at Boca Raton Community High School. His insight and dedication to improving things used in every day life led him to create Infiniband. With the number of children always needing band-aids, his idea to create one larger sized bandage with perforated seams will help make things easier.
Max Gottbetter Max, an eleventh grader at Saint Andrews School, has a heart to help communities. His nonprofit business idea, Band For Relief, helps raise awareness and educate students and teachers on supporting disaster relief efforts. He hopes to grow the involvement of students at schools to be more active in helping communities.
Benjamin Miller Ben is a tenth grader at North Broward Preparatory Academy. A frequent traveler with his family, Ben realized that it would be easier to travel with an adjustable suitcase, to help alleviate the need to pay unnecessary fees when flying.
