PROJECT PROFILE Rounding out a new neighborhood created by apartment and semi-suite style housing and fulfilling a master plan goal (all designed by Ayers Saint Gross), this new dining commons replaces an outdated option to further enhance the student experience. The siting prioritizes green space and open space connections, linking the dining commons to the residence halls and the arts walk.

The building architecture references others on campus while forging its own identity with a statement roof form. The form of the building artfully accommodates the preservation of mature oak trees on the site which provides a more intimate, exterior courtyard for outdoor dining. This interior courtyard is framed by glazing on the building which helps to blur the lines between exterior and interior space.

The Interior Design of our previous residence hall project, Bridge Hall, was greatly influenced by the nature of the building site and its surrounding habitat. Imagery of palm trees informed the selection of a bright green color palette and material patterns

With the desire for a hip, industrial style, accents of ocean-patinaed and dark bronzed metal appear in architectural features from the oxidized metal-look tiles that clad the building lounge booth niches, a perforated elevator lobby ceiling, lounge accent lighting, and even the unit entry sconces. Underclass housing also features blackboards at each unit entry and custom LVT flooring depicting a collage of warm, deconstructed oriental rug motifs for added color and residential style.

PROJECT PROFILE Ayers Saint Gross is the design architect for a new residence hall, Tubman-Laws Hall, at Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware. This was a pursuit with student-housing developer American Campus Communities. Late in the design development phase, the client requested an additional 100-seat dining program to be included with their new student housing. During initial Interior Design discussions, Faculty and students described the no-longer existing diner in town that students used to frequent. This new space would be a modern take on the American retro hangout. Warm, medium-toned

The ground floor includes a central building lounge and living room with kitchen, residence life offices, and a conference room.

PROJECT PROFILE The Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center is a model of student-centered design.

The project included the renovation and restoration of Holzapfel Hall. The design team rehabilitated the exterior wall assembly, restored the original single-pane, double-hung windows, and carefully restored the slate roof and metal cornice. The interior design was inspired by the agora, a central public gathering space in ancient Greek city-states.
