WHY DESIGN

Jonathan Wong

About Me I am a design student studying HD in Product Innovation Technologies in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

This portfolio contain some photos I taken in my photograhy career. Including some snapshot in daily life and spontaneous projects.

I Love photo taking because I think the process can teach me how to observe the world. Before exposured photography, I just like other normal people, only stay and focus on my comfort zone.

But photography bring me walk out my comfort zone, slow down the step and try to understand and feel the environment around us.

WHY DESIGN

What I Do ?

Season of Love (2011) This is a project I tried to work in early year I started to exposure photography.

I used different skills I known at that time to create the picture.

I choose to do this project in Christmas because I like this is a festival with full of love. And I want to share the love and messages behided in Christmas.

New Year wishes on Eva (2012) This is a project I worked with a friend.

The reason of doing this project is because we want to make New Year's Eve to become more meaningful.

We Invited people on the street to write down their wishes on a saying bubble or choose a bubbles we prepared.

We want to see what is important to different people. Is it money? Or any other things.

What I see ?

“The decisive moment�

I think most of people who really interested in photography have heard not only once.

This is a theory from Henri Cartier-Bresson.

The time is running, and the world around us is also changing.

As we live in a point of timeline. What we can do is keeping to make choices.

Choosing the pictures which is beautiful.

Choosing the moment which is touching.

The different between drawing and photo taking is one is started from nothing, one is started from whole things.

Where I Go ?

“He that travels far knows much” 「讀萬卷書不如行萬里路。」

It is a saying I knew a long Time before.

I enjoy to travel to different places is not only because of beautiful scenery, also enjoy visiting people on the way, share the different of lifestyles.

Through sharing views from different environments, I can know more possibilities of living. For example, the methods being happy.

Travel is a excellant invention that help people connecting and improving.

Landscape

景

Compare to the world, human being are very small, no matter is talking about the size or force.

I would like to see how beauty is the world and how people put things that integrate to the natural by wisdom.

Nowaday, natural environment is being destroyed by human development. Therefore, I want to use my limited time to see the world. Also, travel is teaching me the way to treasure what we still own.

SKY In many type of Landscapes,I specially liike sky.

I n d i f f e r e n t t i m e s i n a d a y, d i f f e r n e n t d a y s , i n a y e a r, The sky would show Unlimited color, change and combination.

Even in differnent places, I also like to take photos with sky.

Looking the change of color of sky, movement of the clouds, I can understand the time would never stop. It gives me energy to work after rest.

What I Say ? “The future of Hong Kong is Holding in our hands.�

I care the the development of Hong Kong because I am living in here.

Hong Kong people look live in a good and peaceful, but the true is we are in danger.

If we youngers do not say somethings to our governement, other people. we will not have a bright future.

My first time joining a social protest was 2003 Hong Kong 1 July marches.

After that, I keep my actions in many years. Not only fighting for my own benefits, but the need of others, the future of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong citizen is a group of Lovely people. Even they protest to the government, people still stand calm and protest peacefully.

To make our society develop, the words from different stage of people should be listen and care.

When Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 happened, I was not yet came to world. What I know about the incident are from newspaper, photos, articles.

But I know the icident is not ended.

As a HongKong people. As a place own so call “the largest” freedom of speech.

We need to remember,tribute the people in Tiananmen Square in the past who fought for the future of China.

The Incident was not only happened in the past.

If we can not learn in the history, alert ourselves. Things will be happened in the future.

June 4 is not only in 1989.

Differnet to Hong Kong 1 July marches, This is not a regular event in every years.

Different to Memorials for the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, This is a assembly without the end.

In 2012,People stood out, shouted to our government, stayed together for rejecting National Education.

What people did on these days was written on the history.

For better future. For better living.
