STEPNEY GREEN STATION

URBAN MODEL

The housing clusters around the perimeter of the site creating a multilevel courtyard which reflects the interest in making a “semi-public space that establishes a relationship between the private areas of the individual dwellings and their communal territory to the outside roadways, and the wider city, which in this scheme is reflected in allowing people to pass through the development from streets on the north and south sides of the project, it has been proposed a pedestrian street that allows people to walk form the high street to the housing complex and to he garden behind, this pedestrian street also acts a public place where people can stay for a while and relate to others.

INTERNAL ELEVATION

The apartments are inward looking to the courtyard but the wood panels covering the balconies gives them a high degree of privacy. the variety of levels and staircases in the courtyard also suggest a degree of privacy, this way the project basically possesses a self- contradictory character of being consciously private and yet open to the public domain. The facades to the courtyard intend to create a warm environment, whilst the glass facades to the outside try to expose the circulation of the people living in the flats and also make a vivid and lively environment for the residents, and people passing through .
