BIO-ATTRIBUTED VINYL IS A NEXT GENERATION VINYL Awareness and concern about the environmental impact of plastics have increased significantly in recent years. The environmental problems associated with plastics should be eliminated and plastics should be completely replaced by alternative materials. But plastics play an important role that we are often not even aware of.

In order to provide safe and reliable safety gloves, plastic or, in this case, vinyl becomes an important material. Vinyl is not absorbed or dissolved in anything. Jokasafe gloves can be safely immersed in chemicals, oils and other mixtures without fear of hazardous substances being absorbed through

WHAT IS BIO-ATTRIBUTED VINYL? The main raw material for bio-attributed vinyl products comes from Finnish pineforests. Developed by INOVYN, Europe´s leading vinyl producer, BIOVYN ™ vinyl raw material is 100 % renewable and made from wood or, more precisely, 5

it is a wood-based by-product of the UPM´s forestry industry. This by-product is used to produce bioethylene as a raw material for vinyl. Renewable BIOVYN ™ raw material reduces the carbon footprint by up to 74% compared to regular fossil fuel-based raw materials. Bio-attributed products have the same features as conventional fossil fuel vinyl products, so they are still very durable and offer excellent protection against chemicals and mechanical abrasion, as well as against extreme weather conditions. www.jokasafe.f i

One of the few flexible and durable materials in the world that offers protection from sharp objects and is both waterproof and windproof, but also cold resistant. The material has been tested against oils, chemicals and mechanical abrasion.

TopGrip® anti-slip material has a high friction surface that improves safety by preventing slipping and when handling equipment to improve grip. It is easy to cut, sew and glue. It is easily attachable to another plastic by welding and seaming.

TopGrip® anti-slip material is a unique granulated multilayer vinyl surface which is produced in Finland. It is made of high quality European raw materials. Lining material is 100 % cotton and polyester. TopGrip® antislip material has been tested and certified with EN ISO 4675:2017 in –50°C 4675:2017, EN ISO 7854:1997 Metod A, EN ISO 2286-3:1998. CE marked, REACH compliant.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT TYPE OF PROTECTIVE WORK GLOVES?

WHAT DO THE MARKINGS ON THE PROTECTIVE GLOVES MEAN?

When choosing protective work gloves, it is good to check that they are of high quality and durable and therefore make your work smoother. Gloves should protect hands, be the right size and have the right properties and a good grip.

Protective work gloves are awarded the CE marking and the EN standard, if they meet the requirements specified in EU directive and standard. Protective work gloves must have a fixed marking, either on the glove itself, or on the package. Each manufacturer must have a declaration of conformity, which is an official document by which the manufacturer declares the product conforming to official requirements. Suppliers or sellers must produce the declaration of conformity upon request.

Gloves should be selected according to the task at hand and its risk assessment. Risk assessment must first determine to which factors the workers' hands are exposed to at work and in the working environment, i.e. for mechanical, chemical, thermal (heat, cold) or biological factors. The assessment should also consider work risks and hazards, exposure, incl. the time of exposure, and frequency of risks/hazards at individual workplaces.

The permanent marking must include the CE marking, the name or logo of the manufacturer, the name or product code of the glove, the size, the standard number, the pictograms, the levels or classes of protection, the date of production (type III).

WHAT SIZE OF PROTECTIVE GLOVES SHOULD I USE?

Protective gloves should sit snuggly and be comfortable for the wearer, but also durable, strong and easy to put on. When choosing the right size of Jokasafe® protective work gloves, keep in mind that the glove should be smaller than you normally wear, because vinyl gloves have a looser fit. You may also wear either thin cotton or polyester gloves or warm teddy gloves or mittens inside your protective gloves to enhance the properties of protective gloves.

EN ISO 374-1:2016 Type C

Gloves protecting against chemicals fall into three different types: Type A – protects against six test chemicals for at least 30 min (protection level 2) Type B – protects against three test chemicals for at least 30 min (protection level 2) Type C – protects against one test chemical for at least 10 min (protection level 1) The third line on Type A and Type B pictograms indicates chemicals the glove will protect against (see table 2, p. 17). Type C pictogram does not have a third line.

Chemical gloves are tested for tightness, penetration, permeability, and mechanical resistance. The leak test tests the leakage of chemicals and / or microorganisms through the glove material. The permeability test tests the ability of the test chemical to penetrate through glove material. Based on the breakthrough time, a protection class is assigned to the protective glove (see table 4, p. 17).

Always choose appropriate protective gloves when handling chemicals. The table on page 17 lists chemical groups that the materials used in chemical gloves can resist (see table 3, p. 17).
