SUMMER AT HOWELL WOODS Summer at Howell Woods brings longer days, warmer temperatures, and summer camps! This year, we offered 2 camps: Nature Explorers (for ages 8-12) and our newest camp called Outdoor Trekkers (for ages 13-15). Enjoy photos from both Campers enjoying one of their daily truck ride. These rides gave campers a chance to tour the property and socialize.

Campers participated in a variety of nature-themed activities and crafts during camp, including making bird feeders.

Outdoor Trekkers had a chance to take a guided kayak trip down the Neuse River during camp.

In August, we hosted our annual Perseid Meteor Shower CampOut. Participants camped out in our parking lot field for a full night of star gazing. Members of the local Raleigh Astronomy Club brought telescopes for the public to view through.

In August, our milkweed plants were covered with SO many monarch caterpillars, we had a hard time counting them all!

How many caterpillars can YOU find??

Our pollinator garden has bloomed throughout the summer and has attracted many local pollinators for food and more. Enjoy photos of the colors and the activity found in our pollinator A Stokes' Aster plant blooming and showing off its beautiful colors.
