DESIGNATED MARKSMAN (BASIC SNIPER) COURSE

Course Description: This 3-day/30+ hour course is designed for law enforcement officers with minimal experience, looking to build a solid foundation in the skills needed to be an effective law enforcement designated marksman. This course is also for officers who are already assigned designated marksman responsibilities with their agency and wish to expand on their knowledge base. The focus of this course is to prepare the officer to effectively fulfill their duty as a law enforcement designated marksman.

Course Objective: Upon completion, the law enforcement officer will possess the knowledge and skill required to effectively operate as a law enforcement sniper. Topics include:

 History of the Law Enforcement Designated Marksman.

 The Designated Marksman Rifle.

 The Designated Marksman Scope.

 Fundamentals of Marksmanship.

 The DATA book.

 Calling and Adjusting for Wind.

 Range Estimation Formulas.

 Camouflage.

 The Finial Firing Position.

 Observe and Report.

Course Requirement: Attendance is required for all class and range sessions. Students will be required to pass a Designated Marksman Qualification Course with a score of 80%.

Ammunition Requirements: 400 rounds of duty-ammunition/75-rds handgun trainingammunition

Student Equipment and Supplies: Students will bring comfortable and practical clothing for outside training and adverse weather conditions. Students will need a high-power rifle in .308 or agency issued caliber with scope, binoculars, spotting scope, shooter’s mat, eye and hearing protection, note taking material, rifle cleaning gear, gas mask, data book, insect repellent, sun screen, hydration system, and tactical daypack.
