TUITION-FREE

FOR QUALIFYING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Career and College Promise is North Carolina's program for dual enrollment. High school students who meet the criteria can select from various pathways to fast-track their attainment of college certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees. These pathways support both college transfer and the acquisition of entry-level job skills. Plus, there’s no cost for tuition! This guide details two of the pathways offered at Johnston Community College.

PATHWAYS

FOR QUALIFYING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

College Transfer Designed for high school students, College Transfer Pathways offer a structured way to earn 30+ college credits toward a future bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university.

Career and Technical Education Built for students who want to gain career-ready skills, these pathways lead to a certificate or diploma and may count toward high school career cluster credits.

Curriculum Workforce Continuing Education

Career and College Readiness Built for students who want to gain career-ready skills, these pathways lead to a certificate or diploma and may count toward high school career cluster credits.

Cooperative and Innovative High School Programs For eligible high school students, Cooperative Innovative High Schools located on JCC’s campus offer a supportive, structured pathway to complete an associate degree while still in high school.

COLLEGE TRANSFER

Associate in Science Pathway This CCP College Transfer Pathway offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to start coursework toward an Associate in Science degree, providing a foundation for transfer into a STEM or technical bachelor’s program.

Associate in Arts Pathway High school juniors and seniors can use this CCP pathway to begin earning credits toward an Associate in Arts degree, preparing for transfer into a non-STEM baccalaureate program.

Associate in Engineering Pathway The CCP College Transfer Pathway leading to the Associate in Engineering is designed for high school juniors and seniors who wish to begin study toward the Associate in Engineering degree and a baccalaureate in a STEM or technical major.

Associate in Science: Teacher Preparation Pathway This pathway enables high school juniors and seniors to initiate studies toward an Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation, supporting future licensure for K–12 teaching in STEM-related fields.

Associate in Arts: Teacher Preparation Pathway Designed for students interested in education, this CCP pathway allows high school juniors and seniors to begin an Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation and work toward K–12 or special education licensure.

COLLEGE TRANSFER

College Transfer Pathway Eligibility Requirements: Eligible gifted freshmen and sophomores may participate in College Transfer Pathways (see below for limited course offerings).

To be eligible for enrollment, the gifted 9th/10th grade student must have: Gifted status: Local Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) plan in English/Reading and Math OR Greater than 92nd percentile on an aptitude test and on an achievement test in English, Reading, and Math (both tests must be listed in the Mental Measurements Yearbook (request referral from student's healthcare professional) AND Demonstration of college readiness on approved assessments in English, Reading, and Math AND Completion of a CCP Freshman/Sophomore College Transfer Pathway Participation Form CCP CT Pathway courses available to eligible freshmen and sophomores are:

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM

Career and Technical Education Pathways allow students to earn a credential through curriculum courses that lead to a certificate or diploma aligned with a JCPS Career Cluster.

The courses also count toward completing a four-unit career cluster in high school.

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION WORKFORCE CONTINUING EDUCATION

For students interested in Workforce Continuing Education, these pathways offer career-focused programs that lead to a certificate or professional credential. The training prepares you with real-world skills for in-demand careers.

Truck Driver Training Continuing Education *Must be 18 before completing the application.* Pharmacy Technician Continuing Education *Only offered at Clayton High School and Spring semester.*

Career and Technical Education Pathway Eligibility Requirements: Eligible freshmen and sophomores may participate in a limited number of Career and Technical Education Pathways. To be eligible for enrollment, the 9th/10th grade student must have: Recommendation of current school principal/administrator and their rationale for recommendation in place of GPA requirement (assessment scores should be considered) AND Recommendation of the College's Chief Academic Officer AND Minimum grade/readiness requirements: C/+ in Math I AND 3/+ Math I EOC score AND 3/+ (8th grade) ELA EOG score OR Demonstrate college readiness on approved assessments in English, Reading, and Math

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION WORKFORCE CONTINUING EDUCATION

BioWork Pre-Apprenticeship Continuing Education Certificate (136-hour course) BioWork prepares students for a career in biotechnology and can lead to an entry-level position as a process technician. Successful completion of the course will earn the student: A BioWork Certificate Allows for entry-level employment in a biotechnology career Equals a year of work experience with local Johnston County biopharmaceutical companies Transfers as two courses for related biotechnology degree programs at JCC (BPM 110 Bioprocess Practices & PTC 110 Industrial Environment) One high school credit for CTE Pre-Apprenticeship MANU (BioWork) Opportunities to apply for related apprenticeships during senior year (must be 18 upon graduation)

The BioWork Pre-Apprenticeship Pathway is only available to Johnston Co. Public Schools' students at this time.

CAREER AND COLLEGE READINESS

Tuition-free courses that provide opportunities for college remediation for students prior to high school graduation, ensuring students are prepared for college and career success as they transition from high school to higher education. Students who complete the required supplemental coursework may qualify for any approved CCP Pathway available.

COOPERATIVE AND INNOVATIVE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS There are two Cooperative Innovative High Schools (CIHS) located on Johnston Community College's campus. A CIHS allows eligible high school students to complete an associate's degree within five years. Eligibility for the Career and College Promise (CCP) Program

Junior and Senior Eligibility Eligible juniors and seniors may participate in the College Transfer Pathways, Career and Technical Education Pathways and Workforce Continuing Education Pathways.

To be eligible for enrollment, the student must have: Rising junior or senior status AND Minimum grade/readiness requirements: 2.8/+ unweighted high school GPA OR Demonstrate readiness on approved assessments in English, Reading, and Math View benchmarks Rising juniors and seniors not meeting the minimum grade/readiness requirements above may be able to participate in Career and Technical Education Pathways without Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) courses and/or Workforce Continuing Education Pathways.

To be eligible for enrollment in this manner, the recommendation of the high school principal and their rationale is required as well as recommendation of the college's Chief Academic Officer.

Freshman and Sophomore Eligibility Career and Technical Education Pathway Eligibility Requirements: Eligible freshmen and sophomores may participate in a limited number of Career and Technical Education Pathways. Application Questions?

CCP, including Johnston County Career and Technical Leadership Academy (CTLA) and Johnston County Early College Academy (ECA), will post dates for the next application cycle in the fall.

In the meantime, you can schedule an appointment with a CCP representative to discuss the program by emailing jcc.ccp@johnstoncc.edu.

JCPS Applicants: Contact your Johnston County Public School representative.

Non-JCPS Applicants (homeschool, private, charter, and outside Johnston County): Email jcc.ccp@johnstoncc.edu or call 919.209.2034.

Have your high school administrator submit transcripts through the CCP application, ensuring they understand and follow the guidelines.

Homeschool administrators should use the NCHE template for transcripts.

If needed, test scores, recommendation letters, or the Homeschool Registration Records can be emailed to jcc.ccp@johnstoncc.edu. Please include your full name and document name in the subject line.

Non-Johnston County Public School Participants Non-Johnston County Public Schools (non-JCPS) students are welcome to participate in the Career and College Promise Program at Johnston Community College. This includes homeschool, private, charter as well as high school students outside of Johnston County.

Non-JCPS students are subject to the same eligibility requirements as Johnston County Public School students.

APPLYING - New or inactive* students can submit their applications for the CCP program during the designated open application periods.

Apply to Johnston Community College (JCC)/CCP – review any relevant information to the specific student to see what documentation to attach to the application and select Non-JCPS Applicants to apply. All documentation will be attached inside the application. *Accepted previously but skipped two or more consecutive Fall/Spring semesters.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Students may only take courses within their selected pathway as required by program legislation. With the approval of the high school principal or his/her designee and the college’s Chief Academic Officer or chief student development administrator, a student may concurrently enroll in two pathways. Courses in one program of study may not be substituted for courses in another program. A student who completes a CCP pathway while still enrolled in high school may continue to earn college credits leading to the completion of the associate’s degree with the approval of the high school principal and the college administrator.

To remain eligible for the program, the CCP student must: • Continue to make progress towards high school graduation AND • Submit an updated high school transcript each academic term AND • Maintain a 2.0 GPA in college coursework after completing two courses A student whose GPA falls below a 2.0 after completing two college courses will be subject to the college’s policy for satisfactory academic progress (Academic Warning, Academic Probation)
