HOW DO WE SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS? We have a variety of Student Support Services available to benefit our students and provide holistic support throughout their college experience.

Academic Centers Each campus has a center that offers peer and professional tutoring, online tutoring, writing laboratories and study skills workshops.

Accessibility Services We provide reasonable accommodations for students with learning disabilities, physical challenges and chronic medical conditions so they have the opportunity to succeed in their academic pursuits.

Counseling, Health & Wellness Inclusive, confidential professional services are offered to provide support for students to manage their emotional and physical well-being through Health Services, Counseling Services and Health Education.

Gender Equity Center This is a welcoming space for support, education and confidentiality around topics including sexual orientation, gender identity, violence prevention and more.

Student Academic Services (SAS) SAS helps students stay on track throughout their time at JWU with academic planning, counselors, advisors and other offerings.

Student Financial Services (SFS) SFS helps students and their families finance higher education at JWU with help from a financial planning representative to guide them every step of the way.

Wildcat Learning Effectiveness in Action Program (LEAP) Hosted at JWU’s Providence Campus, Wildcat LEAP is a fee-based educational program designed to help students discover how they learn and to develop specific strategies to enhance their learning.

HOW CAN THIS COMMUNITY H E L P YO U S U C C E E D? JWU faculty and staff are a crucial part of your college experience — and their mentorship can have a profound impact on your life.

Throughout her time at JWU, Brynn Gibson ’20 had the support of mentors like JWU Providence’s Executive Director of Food Safety Bridget Sweet, Associate Professor Lynn Tripp, and Instructor Steven Johansson. “They really understood that to teach meant you had to encourage the student and make them want to learn,” says Gibson. “And those three people made me want to learn.”

When she decided to switch her major from Dietetics & Applied Nutrition to Culinary Science & Product Development, both Sweet and Tripp helped her gain confidence in her choice. through everything, and I’m so deeply appreciative,” says Gibson. “Professor Tripp opened my eyes to the product development world. Now, I’m using my knowledge from her course as I develop my own business and think about going wholesale.”

The mentorship Gibson received while at JWU prepared her to not only run her own business (The Dumpling Den), but to compete on national television in “Hell’s Kitchen: Young Guns” and learn from celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

“Both Johnson & Wales and ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ have opened my eyes in such a positive way,” she says.“You cannot please everyone, and the person that you need to like first is yourself.”
