John Robshaw - Fall 22

FALL 2022

Going back, moving forward. This fall season I went back to my roots in India. After more than 2 years away from my second home, I visited workshops, makers, artisans, old friends. This season’s color palette: vibrant oranges, greens, blues, all the colors of Holi tossed up in the air!

··· New this season are traditional block printed duvets in new colors

and patterns. Browns and blues, a classic Mughal garden, a mysterious floral. One of my first and well known prints, the classic Cinde (we call them duckbills) comes back in a sheet set in three colors. Quilts in greens, reds and blues, bold and colorful. A new Vivada in a stark white.

Stitched coverlets with zigs and zags for a more modern take on our classic. Organic as much as I can.

··· Architect & Designer David Mann let us shoot this season in his

historic Federal style home in Hudson, New York. The home was the cover story of World of Interiors in 2016, and has a history of original ownership by the father-in-law of Aaron Burr’s second in the BurrHamilton duel (of Hamilton fame). The home pushes forward into the 21st century with its modern furnishings and color stories in blacks, whites and primaries.

··· We’re all pulling from the past and making our way forward.

PR I NTING Block printing is one of the oldest arts. It was Indian craftsmen who elevated it to the world-renowned art form it became. We do most of our block printing in the town of Sanganer, which has been home to a community of printers for centuries.

PAINTING Our hand painted pillows are the heroes of every collection. Skilled artists in Jaipur paint each one by hand. Each season we introduce a couple of new animals and designs. There are limited quantities of each design so get them while you can!

Patient seamstresses hand stitch everything - from the edges of sheets and blankets, to the intricate details of pillows and the patterns on quilts. Hand stitching is, of course, a tradition in India, passed down from generation to generation.
