In the 90's, I became obsessed with creating my own hand blockprinted fabrics and began traveling to discover new methods. The more I traveled, the more I learned. I kept this up for a while, selling prints to support my explorations, until the workshops informed me they wouldn’t let me play with their lovely blocks anymore, unless I increased the quantities of my orders to make it profitable for them. So I started making quilts. ··· In 2001, I decided to make my textile addiction official; I declared myself some sort of a business. 20 years later, I am grateful for this wild ride of a career, this wonderful business, this life. ··· This collection is, as always, a tribute to some of my favorite prints, but with new colorways. I love greens, and dove into peacocks with our Vivada quilts, iconic Sag Harbor sheets and our beloved hand stitched coverlets and throws. ··· We’re bringing back several of my first prints. A lovely old textile I found while digging around an antique dealer’s shop in Sumatra has been turned into our Ginger Coral duvet. Another small block I found early on and printed allowing some overlap to radiate out and form medallions. ··· There are lots of browns and blues of course, new hand stitched and woven pillows, and we now have stitched sheets sustainably made with tencel, which is silky smooth. An unruly hand painted camel pillow is the season’s hero. ··· While I still have a studio in the city where this all began, 20 years later I am moving my showroom up to Falls Village, Connecticut. I’d planned on shooting this season in the new space, but it’s not quite finished. If there’s anything India has taught me, it’s to go with the flow. Luckily my friend (and tennis rival) Lisa Ford lent us her beautiful Connecticut home. Her house features some of my artwork, which made it the perfect setting for our beds. ··· As a dear old friend used to say ‘life is change.’ ··· Thank you all for coming along for the ride.

BLOCK PRINTING

HAND STITCHING

Block printing is an art. We do most of our block printing in the town of Sanganer (a suburb of Jaipur) which has been home to a community of printers for centuries.

Hand stitching is a tradition in India. Patient seamstresses hand stitch the edges of sheets and blankets, the intricate details of pillows and the patterns on quilts.

Our painters are skilled artisans in Jaipur who will spend up to two days working on a single pillow.

Meticulous seamstresses quilt by hand; some quilts take up to a week to create.
