Brother Bobby Price '83, and several chapter members presented $1,000 from the 2015 SC Delta Alumni Reunion to Palmetto Project’s families-helping-families on Friday, Dec 11 at Richland Mall (on Forest Drive). The presentation was live on WIS-TV. The Chapter also matched that donation with another $1,000. WIS News 10 has been partnering up with the Palmetto Project for the annual Families Helping Families campaign. This year the goal was to help 3,000 families in the Midlands have a happy Christmas this holiday season

Alumni Notes Thomas Hamilton ‘93 Thomas Hamilton, '93, 44, has been promoted to serve as a sergeant (now lieutenant) in the Special Operations Division of the Lexington County Sheriff's Office.. Thomas previously held the rank of investigator and served in the Narcotics division. He was appointed to serve as deputy sheriff in November of 1999. Reach him at email caycenarc@aol.com.

Stephen S Lore ‘13, is a regional sales manager with Buy Rite Salon and Spa Equipment in Atlanta. He attended Woodward Academy and majored in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management at Carolina. Reach him at email stephenlore@comcast.net

Martin David “Marty” Woolbright, ‘74, was a social affiliate with SAE in the 1970s. He was a head coach at Lower Richland, Gilbert and Clover, and reached the state semifinals four times. His grandfather, Cecil Woolbright, started the football program at Latta and won multiple state championships at Chapin during the 70’s. Marty has taught for 35 years and coached for 30. He also was head coach at Charlotte’s Ardrey Kell. He played football as a Tight End at Carolina and was drafted by the NY Giants in 1974. Marty has retired and resides in North Myrtle Beach.

Brother Mark Cantey '82 of Charlotte has joined Knight Communications as Director of Sales and Marketing.

Mark has been Vice President and Associate Publisher with the Inventors Digest and Owner and Publisher of MRC Publishing.

SAE Entrepreneur Spirit—Patrick Allen ‘18

Brother Patrick Allen, ‘18, has formed a company called Necessivend. He writes: "Necessivend strategically places vending machines to provide convenience for some of the most time-sensitive people out there: travelers and student. Their goal is to provide the same sort of convenience for everyday-essentials that vending machines do for drinks and snacks.

It’s hard to not find a soft drink or a candy bar on a college campus or in a hotel lobby, but try finding floss, toothbrushes, spare contact lense cases, shampoo, soap, AAA batteries, notepads, pens or pencils, condoms, or phone chargers. You may, but you also may not, and finding these essentials at a convenient place is the difference between you putting on slippers to walk down the hall, or dialing up an Uber to drive to the nearest convenience store and hope that the store is open".

The chapter has an active mother and son group called The Mothers of Minerva, which meets each year in the spring semester. The Mothers sponsor an auction and dinner that raises funds for various housing and community service projects. This coming year “MoM” Weekend, as its called, will be Feb 19-21. Brother Robert “Bobby” A Walters, ’19, a native of Georgetown, was honored with the Woodmen of the World Caring for Others Award for his scouting service on Dec 5, 2015. He said, “I am honored to receive the Caring For Others Award for my good citizenship and involvement within my community, specifically the Know Your Zone Project. Also, thank you to my family tricking me into being there, the surprise made it even better.” Bobby is a member of the fall 2015 class. He is majoring in Political Science in the USC Honors College, and attended Waccamaw High School. Congratulate him at email raw3@email.sc.edu.

While our official charter date is Feb. 28, 1882, in 1856 a student at South Carolina College by the name of Talbot Adams was initiated. He was sent a charter to start a chapter but his efforts failed. He is listed as a member of Alabama Mu. This means that had he been successful SC Delta would have been one of the first five chapters of SAE. Also, SC Delta members were responsible for founding NC Theta at Davidson College, SC Lambda at SC Military Academy (The Citadel), and SC Mu at Erskine College (closed).

In Memoriam—Rex Bull

Rex Bull passed away unexpectedly on Friday December 18, 2015. He remained committed to SAE and life in the Delta Chapter. His memorial service was held at Kirkwood First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood (Missouri) on January 9 at 10:30 A.M.

John Parker Hamilton, '07, from Olney, Texas, was promoted to a Sales Executive with C H Robinson in Dallas, a logistics and supply chain company. Part of Parker's role is to prospect and generate new sales opportunities through detailed research and preliminary cost benefit analysis. Previously he served as an account manager. ROSS EARLY ‘00 "Capt" Ross Early, '00, is captain and owner of Early Bird Fishing Charters in Islamadora, Florida - an offshore fishing charter with his boat, named “Earlybird”. It's a 43’ Alex Willis custom Carolina sport fishing boat. . Ross purchased the boat in Charleston, SC where it was running charters there under the name GameDay. Ross had been living in Islamorada and working as a mate for many of the local captains at Holiday Isle, Whale Harbor, and Robbie’s Marinas. Ross spent three summers working as a salmon and halibut charter captain in Southeast Alaska.

He grew up in Bamberg, South Carolina where he spent most of his time fishing and hunting. He started fishing at a very early age aboard his father’s offshore boat “The Nauti Lee”. He began working at Edisto Marina on Edisto Beach, SC at the age of 10.

In Memoriam—Henry Spann Laffitte ‘65, died Thursday, December 31, 2015, in Allendale, SC. He was born August 30, 1941, in Estill, SC, a son of the late Charles Atkins and Rosalie Spann Laffitte. A graduate of Allendale-Fairfax High School, he attended The Citadel and graduated from The University of South Carolina with a BS and a Masters of Business Administration. He served as President of the Carolina Commercial Bank in Allendale, SC. Upon its merger with Palmetto State Bank in 2007, he became Executive Vice Chairman of Palmetto State Bank. Memorials can be sent to Allendale Presbyterian Church, PO Box 554, Allendale, SC 29810.

Chapter Education Fund The SC Delta Chapter Education Fun was established in 2001 with the goal of sending members to the annual John O Moseley Leadership School. To date we have about $19,000 in the fund, and it pays out about $1,600 each year that is credited toward the Leadership School tuition cost (usually covers 3 delegates).

Would you consider helping us grow this fund? You can make a contribution, or series of contributions, using a debit or credit card as a form of payment online here. This is the official donation site of the SAE Foundation. If you decide to use this option, be sure to indicate the donation is for the SCDE CEF in the COMMENTS Box. About a CEF A Chapter Education Fund, or CEF, is a fund managed and invested by the SAE Foundation and used to benefit a chapter's undergraduate or graduate-school members. A CEF is established with tax-deductible contributions. Chapter Education Funds and their administration are subject to the regulations of the Internal Revenue Service and the laws governing 501(c)(3) organizations. All donations to a CEF are included in the donor's lifetime giving record with the Foundation.

The pay-out for a CEF is usually not greater than 5 percent. It is the payout that is available annually for use by a chapter for projects deemed "wholly educational in nature."
