Singapore City – Unique Among Countries Singapore City: A Modern City-State Singapore City is one of three sovereign city-states in the world. It is the only city-state to be an island. The Republic of Singapore is a small island nation in Southeast Asia. It lies on the southern end of the Malay Peninsula. It is a very small island that is in between Malaysia and Indonesia. A little more than four million people call Singapore home. It has often been called” the cleanest city in the world.“
So how did Singapore City transform itself from being nothing but a swampy island to a modern financial centre? The answer lies in the election of their first Prime Minister, Lee Kwan Yew. Lee Kwan Yew used some very stern rules, but he actually put Singapore City on the map. It is one of the wealthiest, cleanest, and safest cities in the whole world. Lee Kwan Yew not only made a success story out of Singapore, but he did it in less than 4 decades. He took basic rules that every child should have learned from their parents and made them laws. Yes, you can be fined or arrested for spitting on a sidewalk, littering or selling chewing gum in the country. You can bring and use chewing gum, but you better make sure it goes to the garbage can when you're done. Yes, you can eat that hamburger, but that
wrapper better not end up on the ground. You can be fined the equivalent of a thousand dollars USD for littering. Some people claim that there are eyes everywhere. Maybe so, as Singapore City has 400 undercover cops watching to make sure the rules are followed. One CBN team was amazed to find the local people do not mind the strict laws. They are proud of what they have accomplished in the last 40 years. Get rid of the idea that Singapore City is boring and too clean. Inside you will discover an awesome mix of Chinese , Malaysian, Indian, and Western culture. It is the hottest social life around! Does a successful society really need pollution, dirty streets, graffiti, poverty, and chaos? Is it really bad that everyone looks clean and wholesome? It is amazing to see clean-cut youth without sagging pants!
So What’s to Do in Singapore City? The Singapore Zoo is one of the top zoos in the world. The zoo is famous for its natural style enclosure and free roaming animals. Many of the animal exhibits are interactive events. A trip to the zoo is a delightful experience for the whole family.
The Singapore Botanical Gardens is fantastic. Within the Botanical Gardens are many smaller gardens. The National Orchid Garden began in 1928 and has a legacy of orchid breeding known throughout the world. The different gardens are unique, with exhibits from many nations. Floral fragrances fill the air. What an awesome way to start the day!
