Buffon's Histoire Naturelle etchings with aquatint and drypoint, 1942, rare de tête ed 36 Picasso's Buffon is one of the greatest bestiaries of the twentieth century. Eager to test out the new technique of sugar-lift aquatint, Picasso threw himself into the project completing an etching a day. The spontaneity of the plates is attested by the freehand margins, the rapidly drawn line and the use of fingerprints for textural variety.

Carnet de le Californie collotype, 1959, ed1500 In 1955 Picasso had taken up residence in La Californie, a sprawling Art Nouveau villa in Cannes with sweeping views over the Mediterranean. Within several months he had embarked upon an extensive series of paintings and drawings depicting his new workspace. These collotypes are produced from one of Picasso's sketchbooks executed at that time between November 1st 1955 and January 14th 1956.

Sable Mouvant aquatint, 1966, HC aside from ed 20 on Japon, 38 x 27.5 cm signed by Picasso Picasso's illustrations for Sable Mouvant (Quicksand), Pierre Reverdy's last poem, depict the artist working with his model, selected from the series entitled: Peintre et Modèle which Picasso worked on from 1963 to 1965. These painterly aquatints depict the artist, painter or sculptor, before a female model in his studio. The work was issued as a tribute to Reverdy who died in 1960 and who had played a significant role within the group of Surrealist artists and writers including Guillaume Apollinaire, Max Jacob, Georges Braque, Juan Gris, André Breton and Picasso. This edition of 20 only on Japon is very scarce.

Prosper Mérimée's Carmen engravings, 1949, ed 320 Carmen, Prosper Mérimée's novella, was written in 1845 (the definitive version appeared in 1847). It is at once a rather romanticised account of the customs of the Andalusian gypsies and the dramatic story of a fatal passion. The story, which became popular through Georges Bizet's opera (1875), evoked in Picasso associations with Spain and the corrida.

La Célestine etchings with aquatint, 1971, ed 400 Picasso worked on the plates for La Célestine almost daily. Using various techniques (sometimes on the same plate), he was impatient to see the impression as soon as it was printed. This must rank as one of Picasso's most important and soughtafter late suites.

Picasso copied out the 20 sonnets by hand, transferred them to copperplates, and embellished them with flourishes, sketches, and figures. Original Lithographic Posters for Galerie de la Colombe Exhibition posters of Picasso's Portrait Imaginaires from his late period for an exhibition in Vallauris at the Galerie de la Colombe. In January 1969, at the age of 87, Picasso received a shipment of painting supplies packed with sheets of brown corrugated cardboard. Inspired by these 'blank canvases', Picasso set about painting a series of imaginary portraits over the next four months in simple brilliant colours.
