This year’s Meet the Physician–Scientist series was made especially meaningful by a visit from Kelley Yan, MD, PhD (MSTP Class of 2006), the 2025 recipient of the Terry Ann Krulwich Physician–Scientist Alumni Award, presented by the New York Academy of Medicine and Mount Sinai Dr Yan an internationally recognized leader in stem cell and gastrointestinal biology returned “home” to meet with our students and share her career story
In an intimate and generous conversation, Dr Yan reflected on the formative years she spent in the Mount Sinai MSTP, the mentors who shaped her trajectory, and the scientific questions that continue to drive her work today She spoke candidly about navigating uncertainty, finding joy in discovery, and building a career rooted equally in curiosity, resilience, and care for patients.
Her visit was a highlight of the year equal parts inspiring and grounding Students left feeling seen, encouraged, and reminded that the physician–scientist journey is rarely linear, but always full of possibility
We are proud to celebrate Dr Yan’s achievements and deeply grateful for the time she spent with our community Her leadership and generosity embody the spirit of the Terry Ann Krulwich Award and the enduring legacy of Mount Sinai-trained physician–scientists
We are so proud of our 2026 Mount Sinai MSTP graduates and all they have accomplished This year’s residency match reflects years of hard work, perseverance, curiosity, and commitment to improving medicine through both patient care and discovery Students matched into a wide range of specialties, including Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Dermatology, with more than 80 percent pursuing research-track residencies Watching this group take the next step in their training at outstanding institutions across the country is incredibly exciting, and we cannot wait to see the impact they will have as future physician-scientists
