Valley of Vision Sculpture 80+ artists including Richard Wilson RA, David Mach RA and Frank Bowling OBE RA A spectacular large-scale exhibition featuring an intriguing line-up of prominent sculptors curated by Susan Haire. There will be impressive pieces on a monumental scale and the diversity of the exhibits will range from works in metal and stone to ephemeral and interactive work and performance. The artist Samuel Palmer coined the phrase ‘Valley of Vision’ when he lived in Shoreham in his youth in the 1820s and the Darenth Valley was the inspiration for his celebrated visionary landscape paintings. Many of the exhibitors have made works inspired by the Darenth Valley in the same spirit as Palmer and the show will be particularly unusual in the number of sculptures that will be sitespecific with some work being made in direct response to Palmer. The gardens of all sizes will be at their best during the show offering great appeal to garden enthusiasts. Visitors couldn’t wish for more beautiful surroundings in which to view sculpture – truly an art-lovers' paradise. 11.00 - 17:00 each day. An ideal family day out but children must be accompanied – there will be a special children's activity. Tuesday 23 June Sevenoaks 2020: A photographic celebration of life and work in the town centre People, Businesses and Buildings in the Town Centre Sevenoaks is 900 years old. What began as a cluster of market stalls at the junction of routes from north and south has developed into a compact but diverse and dynamic town centre of over 250 urban businesses, shops and services. From haberdashery to health care; coffee to computers; dentistry to dustbins; art to artichokes; jewellery to jazz; specs to sports-wear, it’s all there and much more besides. But that’s far from all. The town centre offers conversations, chance encounters, meetings, wanderings, exercise, stimulation … This active geography and history is celebrated in an exhibition of photographs of the town’s activities, the buildings in which they take place, and their owners and staff – the people who make them work. With photographs made between late 2019 and early 2020, the exhibition was organised and created by Victoria Granville-Baxter, Elizabeth Purves and Roger Lee. The Winter’s Tale Sevenoaks Shakespeare Society has been presenting Shakespeare as part of the Festival for many a year, and we are delighted this year to be staging one of his best loved works, THE WINTER'S TALE. Come with your own folding chair or picnic blanket and breathe in the warm summer air of The White Rock Inn as we take you back to the harshest winter Sicily has ever seen! Shakespeare's classic play transports us through time and space - between the pleasant, present Summer of Bohemia and the wintry tundra of a past Sicily. In Sicily, a jealous tyrant king succumbs to the paranoia of an unfaithful wife; we see the tragedies his suspicions cause unfold. In Bohemia, comedy abounds as two young lovers, one a prince and the other a poor shepherdess, try to avoid the judging eyes of the prince's oldfashioned father. In the last act, these two stories combine into one of Shakespeare's most iconic final scenes. The White Rock Inn 8:00 PM £12.00, Tickets available from Festival Box Office (Concession price £5.00) Second Box Office: The White Rock Inn, Underriver, Sevenoaks, Kent TN15 0SB Tel. 01732 833112. Concessions apply to: Students (under 21 and in full time education), Children (under 16). Tickets are also available from The White Rock Inn for each performance, £15/£5 on the door (cash or cheque only) or £12/£5 in advance. Pre-theatre supper is available at the pub - advance booking is very advisable! The performances will last approximately 2 hours and there will be an interval of 20 minutes. Shakespeare's language is possibly not appropriate for the very young! Repeat dates and times: 27 Jun, 8:00 PM; 28 Jun, 3:30 PM; 02 Jul, 8:00 PM; 03 Jul, 8:00 PM; 04 Jul, 8:00 PM; 05 Jul, 3:30 PM 20

Sunday 28 June MRS CHURCHILL – MY LIFE WITH WINSTON
Liz Grand
They say that behind every great man, there is a great woman. Was this true in Churchill’s case? What of Clementine, his wife for 56 years? Did he bully her like he did so many other people? Was he as grumpy and irascible at home as he often was in the House of Commons? Given his strength and conviction, did Clem have any influence on him at all? Or was she 'the little lady at home'? All these questions will be answered, and many more, in Liz Grand’s superb, moving, sensitive and informative portrayal of Clementine Churchill. This was one of the great love affairs of all time, no better illustrated than Winston saying,

About our Founding Sponsor
Sevenoaks School is the co-founder of the Sevenoaks Summer Festival and has supported it since the inaugural event of 1970. The school was founded in 1432 by William Sevenoke, Mayor of London, who was said to have been a foundling of Sevenoaks. He left money to open a free grammar school and almshouses in the town, providing for children and adults in need of education and accommodation. Today we are a leading International Baccalaureate school delivering a global education to over 1050 students, some 70 per cent of whom still come from within ten miles of Sevenoaks. The school continues to support the local community in a variety of ways including student bursaries, outreach and partnerships with other schools, and voluntary service activities. We are delighted to sponsor the 50th Festival and look forward to hosting events in The Space, our award-winning performing arts centre. www.thespacesevenoaks.co.uk

About our Major Sponsors Sevenoaks Town Council The Town Council has been a sponsor for many years and the Principal Sponsor since 2004, continuing as such for 2019 despite the economic pressures. The Council considers Summer Festival not only important for the well-being of local residents but also a real draw for visitors, adding vibrancy to the town and the local economy. The Council aspires to support all sectors of the local community, either by provision of facilities, including the Stag (now managed by an independent charity), community centres, open spaces, and allotments, or supporting the voluntary sector via grants and local businesses through its involvement in Sevenoaks Town Partnership www.sevenoakspartnership.org. www.sevenoakstown.gov.uk
Blighs Meadow Bligh’s Meadow offers an exclusive range of top fashion & lifestyle brands in the heart of Sevenoaks. Completed in 2001, this major development regenerated the town centre and has been the focus for Festival Fair since 2002. Shop in style and comfort with accessible car parking, excellent facilities and a wide selection of shops and cafes including Laura Ashley, Phase Eight, JoJo Maman Bébé, Crew, Danish Collection, Costa, Nando’s, Nonna Cappuccini’s and many more. Keep up to date with all the latest news, special offers and events at Bligh’s Meadow at www.blighsmeadow.com
The Chronicle Sponsors since 2001 and Principal Media Partner since 2004, The Chronicle remains the primary news service for Sevenoaks and the surrounding area. Now 138 years old, the first issue appeared on Friday February 18, 1881 and, with the exception of two missing weeks during the national printers' strike in 1959, the newspaper has never failed to appear. It is one of the oldest business enterprises in Sevenoaks and is now part of the Trinity Mirror group. As well as publishing a weekly newspaper every Thursday, there’s round-the-clock, seven-day-a-week coverage on our dedicated website kentlive.news. If you have a story that needs telling or an event you want covering, call the news desk on 01732 562921 or email reporters@sevenoaks-chronicle.co.uk. www.kentlive.news
Sevenoaks School Sevenoaks School is the co-founder of the Sevenoaks Summer Festival and has supported it since the inaugural event of 1970. For more information, please see p 26.
