HELLO

Prospective Patriot!

What Will Being a PATRIOT Mean to You? In the ever-changing world of education, The John Carroll School is poised to help you achieve your dreams, whatever they may be! You may want to audition for a stage production, write for the school paper, try your skill at ceramics, learn sports broadcasting or CAD. You may wish to explore Artificial Intelligence, Robotics or Computer Science. Becoming a Peer Minister or deepening your faith in God may be what you seek in high school. Perhaps you want to grow as an athlete or try a new sport. Whatever your interest may be – one interest or many -- we have a class or extracurricular activity to help you develop it! For over 50 years, we have been a leader in innovative Catholic education. Rooted in faith, we foster leaders of strong moral courage. By investing in technology, John Carroll creates a culture of learning that is adaptable to each student and any situation. Our highly qualified and trained faculty knows that every student learns differently and strives to create an environment—virtual or in person—where each student is known and valued. Our community is here to support you through your Patriot journey. In addition to the network of classmates, teammates, castmates and fellow students, you can rely on faculty, staff, administration, moderators and coaches as well as other Patriot families to help you navigate the transition to and through high school. BE A PART OF A

John Carroll Athletics strives to develop strong sports teams by helping student-athletes achieve their highest potential. While competition on the fields and courts is important, we use our athletics to also teach life lessons and develop character traits that will prepare our student-athletes for success in life beyond sports. At John Carroll, sports foster an environment that allows each student-athlete to cultivate a strong sense of self, build strong, authentic relationships, and develop the values of accountability, leadership, reliability, loyalty, and a strong work ethic. We encourage our student-athletes to strive for daily improvement, focus on what is within their control and become part of something bigger than themselves. JC Athletics Foundational Values 1. Strong Relationships – We will focus on developing an environment where student-athletes know they can rely on one another and on their coaches. Every studentathlete should feel that he or she is known and valued by coaches and teammates regardless of playing time or game statistics. The environment of each team should be built around care for one another both on and off the field/court.

2. Development – We will focus on daily and weekly improvement by being process-oriented and allowing opportunities for purposeful practice. Our aim is to help each student-athlete maximize his/her potential. We will do this by setting individual and team goals and being organized and progressive in the process and sequence of instruction and development. We will encourage student-athletes to step outside of their comfort zones and risk making mistakes during practice and training.

3. Accountability – We will hold student-athletes to a high standard of effort and conduct and insist that things are done the right way. In the process, we understand the we will need to show patience as we guide teenagers to learn from their mistakes and strive to live up to the high expectations that we have for them. These high expectations apply to the student-athletes’ work on the fields and courts, as well as in the classroom and community. We expect each student-athlete to be an upstanding member of the community and a role model for his/her peers and younger athletes.

4. Leadership – We believe that every student-athlete has the potential to be a leader in some capacity, and we will focus on providing them leadership opportunities that fit each personality and level of maturity. Leadership is not simply a position; it entails thought, word, and action. Some will lead with their energy and enthusiasm, some will lead with their words, and all should lead by their example. We continue to add JV and Fresh/Soph teams to increase the availability for students to play at a highly competitive level or just for fun. At John Carroll, there is a place for every student-athlete.

Building a culture of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion is a leadership imperative and a moral obligation rooted in our faith and is integral to the mission of John Carroll. Led by the Peace, Justice and Moral Courage Committee, our entire community looks to strengthen the diversity of the student body, faculty and staff, to create an anti-racist community that does not simply tolerate and respect differences, but understands and celebrates them, in order to make all students feel welcome at John Carroll and to provide professional development opportunities for faculty to deliver culturally relevant curricula.
