Types of Aid 1. NEED-BASED (NOT A LOAN, DOES NOT NEED TO BE REPAID) Need-based financial aid is a grant from John Carroll School, awarded based on demonstrated financial need (difference between educational expenses and a family’s ability to pay those expenses). Available annually; must reapply every year. Maximum need-based aid typically does not exceed $5,000.
To apply: Submit an online application through FACTS at: johncarroll.org/financialaid. Please note: • To be considered for grants for the 2021-2022 school year, families must submit the online FACTS financial aid application between November 1 and December 21, 2020. Applications will be accepted after this date but there is no guarantee aid will be available. • 2020 tax returns must be uploaded to FACTS no later than May 1, 2021 for income verification. New families are notified of awards as part of their acceptance package. 2. MULTI-CHILD FAMILY DISCOUNTS The Multi-Child Family Discount provides families with more than one child enrolled at John Carroll a $500 reduction in tuition for each student enrolled after the first student.
Important Dates At-A-Glance November 1, 2020: FACTS financial aid opens December 20, 2020: Applications due at JC February 21, 2021: Acceptance notification May 1, 2021: Tax returns uploaded to FACTS
3. MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS The John Carroll School offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to exceptionally qualified boys and girls. Merit-based scholarships recognize top incoming freshmen who stand out through the GPA, HSPT scores, personal interview and references. Merit-based scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and are not guaranteed. Merit scholarships may be awarded in addition to need-based aid.
To apply: Freshmen admitted to The John Carroll School are automatically considered for most merit awards if we receive their complete admission applications by the December 20 deadline and will be notified in February as part of their acceptance package. Other scholarships require additional steps or have different deadlines. See details in the scholarship descriptions available at johncarroll.org/tuition-resources. We take many factors into consideration when determining awards. We encourage all students to apply and contact us to discuss your specific situation. All questions about scholarships should be directed to the Admissions Office at admissions@johncarroll.org.
