A native Tennessean, John Carney III was born to John Carney Jr. and Emily Carney in Nashville, Tennessee. John grew up as an active young man. John, while in school, played golf, baseball, soccer, wrestling, and football. During John’s junior year of high school, his father assisted him in his first entrepreneurial endeavor. This endeavor led to a fruitful career in the Volunteer State.

John currently lives in Clarksville, Tennessee, with his wife, Sarah. Sarah is a local business owner and shares John's entrepreneurial spirit. John recently launched a civil infrastructural consulting firm that allows him to return to his entrepreneurial roots. Having over 15 years of experience in the civil field, John leverages his industry experience to assist local development firms with best management practices.

John has currently experienced more time to improve his quality of life through his new entrepreneurial endeavor. His career has been reflected in his hands-on experience, leadership, and commitment to building strong teams and delivering meaningful results. John believes in sharing all his knowledge with his team members, as he is a firm believer that to climb the ladder, someone must be able to do his job.

His Professional Experience Carney has more than fifteen years of experience in civil construction, land development, landscape construction, and safety site management. His skill set includes pre-construction planning, project management, engineering relations, adherence to timelines and budgets, construction crew supervision, and workforce development.

John has a passion for promoting a strong safety culture. John believes that every employee deserves to go home to their family unharmed each day. Promoting a safety-minded culture ensures that the team members’ health and family relations come before job production.

He is known for his hands-on leadership style and ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, field-driven environment with lofty expectations. John is consistently reviewing design and submittal information to streamline workflow. John enjoys aligning teams and resources to deliver high-quality results across complex projects he has been tasked with managing.

John Carney III holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Austin Peay State University. John also believes that continuing education is critical in personal and professional development. John holds industry certifications across multiple disciplines. John holds a level 1 Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation Certification.

John’s other credentials include an OSHA 30 certification (Construction Safety C Health), excavation and safety training for competent persons, confined spaces training for construction, American Traffic Safety Services certification, and first aid with CPR and AED training.

C3GCLLC Consulting John Carney has recently tapped into his entrepreneurial drive by starting a civil construction consulting firm for developers. C3GCLLC works directly for developers conducting site planning and best management practices. John believes he serves his clients best when he can be on-site and provide independent and qualified direction. John enjoys working with smaller development firms and civil contractors to provide project management and quality control.

Civil Site Superintendent, Harness LLC John Carney from Clarksville, TN, joined Harness LLC in 2019. Harness LLC is a full-service grading and utility contractor that believes in building people first. John started as an Operator and quickly had an opportunity to move into a project foreman role. John’s belief in sharing knowledge and building team members led him to an opportunity to promote a team lead within his crew and apply for a new superintendent position at Harness. He directed all phases of site work development and managed timelines and budgets. He supervised multiple crews while educating and adhering to OSHA standards.

John also conducted risk assessments and conducted safety planning and briefings.

Carney enjoyed the opportunities given to him at Harness LLC. These included mentoring crew members, foremen, and crew leaders, while building project timelines and holding coordination meetings to align crews while maximizing efficiency. John was fortunate to manage $30 Million-plus in projects with consistent safety and quality results.

Aligning with Harness’s core purposes and values, John Carney received the 2022 Core Purpose award, "Move Dirt," and the 2023 Core Value award for keeping it H.O.T. (Humble, Open, and Transparent).

Equipment Operations Team Lead, Brad Sidle Construction

Prior to Harness LLC, Carney served as an equipment operator with the grading crews at Brad Sidle Construction. His responsibilities included assisting in coordinating site preparation and readiness for production. Tasks included land clearing, excavation, grading, and parking lot systems. This experience near Memphis, Tennessee, gave John valuable experience working at a location where soil needs reinforcement. The greater Memphis area does not have any readily available bedrock to make graded stone. John was able to learn how to reinforce structural soils with other means and use recycled materials for utilities.

Equipment Operations, Morgan Contractors John Carney also worked in equipment operations for the civil contractor Morgan Contractors Inc. in Clarksville, Tennessee. John had the opportunity to collaborate with excavation crews on cut-and-fill operations. John Carney also reduced downtime with preventative maintenance. Carney supported management by reporting workflow and training any junior operators.

Founder, Carney Landscape John began his first entrepreneurial endeavor during his junior year in high school. John started mowing neighborhood yards and gradually moved to landscape maintenance. After graduating, John launched Carney Landscape, a lawn and landscaping company. During the six years he ran his company, Carney gained hands-on experience in business operations and client relations. John relished the diverse scope of landscape construction and maintenance. Projects included grading yards, planting trees and shrubs, mulch and weed control, installing irrigation systems, installing paver patios with retaining walls, and in-ground pool construction.

His Education John Carney, Clarksville, TN, graduated from Clarksville High School and was involved in many sports, including baseball, soccer, football, wrestling, and golf – a game he still enjoys. After High School, John studied Agriculture and Plant Science at Austin Peay State University. The agriculture program features extensive working farm facilities for direct student experience in agricultural practices. He later attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he studied Landscape and Construction Design. John later returned to Austin Peay and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in May of 2017.

In His Free Time When he is not working, John Carney enjoys spending time outdoors, including ATV trail riding, boating, compound-bow shooting, and golfing. He also enjoys sim racing, including competing in NASCAR events on iRacing. John has a Jeep that he enjoys modifying. John’s love for the civil construction industry has led to his admiration for antique land surveying instruments. John currently collects these types of instruments and enjoys bringing them out in the field to use them and educate others on survey history.

Carney helps his wife, Sarah, with her local salon business maintenance as well.

Giving Back Dedicated animal lovers, John and Sarah Carney, have a Chocolate Lab named Beau, a rescue named Rusty, and two cats, Rita and Buddie. John and Sarah have a passion to rescue and care for animals in need. This includes fostering the animals and helping nurse them back to health, ensuring they receive proper vaccinations, and ultimately placing them in loving homes. John Carney is a supporter of the Montgomery and Christian County animal shelters.

Carney supports the Clarksville Alumni Football Club by being a member at large. The Clarksville High Alumni Football Club holds fundraising drives such as golf tournaments and bowling tournaments. These fundraisers help with funding for the football program and a yearly scholarship for a deserving graduate going to college. This program is very important to John as his father and teammates started philanthropy many years ago.
