benalla Benalla is a rural city steeped in history and offering an array of interesting things to see and do.

Benalla played a significant role in Ned Kelly’s bushranging ventures with a number of sites around town retelling his tales of infamy. The manhunt for the Kelly Gang was devised from the police headquarters set up in Benalla at the time. The Ned Kelly Touring Route is a fascinating step back in time for those wanting to learn more about this famous bushranger.

From paddock to plate, Benalla is bountiful in fresh local produce available from farm gates and the many eateries in town. The district also has a number of cellar doors open for wine sales. Treat your palate to some premium drops during your stay in Benalla.

Benalla is a keen sporting town offering everything from golf to bowls to aquatic sports, as well as the district is home to the Winton Motor Raceway.

Alternatively, visitors can embark on a nature walk

or explore the gardens and parks that abound in and around Benalla.

If you’re keen to do something out of the box, try a gliding adventure at the Gliding Club of Victoria. The club has experienced pilots who can take you up for a ride and provide a fascinating bird’s-eye view of the region. In January 2017, the Benalla Aerodrome played host to the World Gliding Championships bringing together gliders from around the globe.

For art enthusiasts, the Benalla Art Gallery boasts an array of permanent art as well as a rotating calendar of both national and international works. Nestled on the lake, the gallery is open 10am to 5pm daily except for Tuesdays. If you’re after some refreshments while visiting the gallery, check out the Gallery Café which offers a delectable range of local produce and wines.
