BUR ROLLS
ARROWBASE
(PLY
& BASE SHEETS)
ARROWGLASS IV / ARROWGLASS VI
Arrowglass IV & VI are manufactured with a heavyweight fiberglass mat containing heat-cured resinous binders. High-strength glass mats are saturated with TYPE IV & TYPE VI asvphalt respectively, giving Arrowglass IV & VI incredible strength and weathering capabilities, as well as a uniform porosity for ease in application. Arrowglass IV & VI are ply sheets used in hot mopped roofing applications and may be the basic ply sheets used in all smooth and gravel surfaced roofing systems requiring the ASTM D-2178 TYPE IV & VI felts.
Arrowbase is non-porous, 28lb. base sheets, uniquely designed and constructed to be simultaneously strong and wrinkle resistant. This unique combination of strength and suppleness is achieved by coating a heavyweight, specially designed fiberglass mat with type IV asphalt. The asphalt coating helps maintain a uniform consistency on both sides of the sheet and eliminates pinholes. Arrowbase is used as the base ply in a wide variety of hot, cold and torch-applied builtup and modified bitumen roofing applications. The suppleness and extreme pliability of Arrowbase makes it a good alternative for organic base where a decay resistant inorganic mat is desired.
SPECIALTY UNDERLAYMENTS
Valleyfast 100 is a mechanically fastened and self sealing fiberglass reinforced sheet coated with a technologically advanced SBS formulation. Valleyfast 100’s high degree of versatility makes it an excellent choice for use under metal, composition shingles, and shake applications.
Mineral Surfaced Roll Roofing is an economical mineral granule surfaced roof covering for use on low and steep slope roofs.
Venting Base Sheet is an asphalt coated fiberglass base sheet for use in builtup roof systems that has been coated on the underside with mineral granules. The mineral granules are then embossed leaving a grid pattern in the sheet for superior venting characteristics.
MULTI-PURPOSE BASE
QUIK-Stick Multi-Purpose Base is an SBS modified selfadhesive membrane that is reinforced with non-woven fiberglass mat for superior strength, durability and ease of application. Its coated fiberglass surface provides improved traction while working on the roof and is designed for use in multiple roofing applications.
OWENS CORNING™ TRUMBULL® BUILT-UP ROOFING ASPHALT
LONGER SYSTEM LIFE
While most single-ply roofing contains no reinforcement at all, each ply of a Built-Up Roofing system contains a mat of glass fiber reinforcement. When these multiple plies are combined and sandwiched between layers of water-resistant asphalt, the result is a longer lasting roof.
LIMITED ROOF MOVEMENT
All roofs expand and contract. Singleply roofs respond with elongation, but over time lose their elasticity, resulting in buckling, ridges and splits. A Built-Up Roof limits movement with a high tensile strength – in excess of the recommended 200 lbs/sq. The result is a near elimination of the potential for fracturing, which again ensures that a Built-Up Roof lasts longer.
Low-fuming PermaMop® modified roofing asphalt is specially engineered to provide exceptional durability. This makes it a great choice for projects in extreme weather areas, whether it’s heat, cold or moisture. In laboratory testing, PermMop® asphalt withstands up to 193 weather cycles compared to only 60 weather cycles of other asphalts. That’s a minimum of 150% longer than standard asphalt, making PermaMop® a great choice for all weather conditions.
SUPERIOR WATER RESISTANCE
Multiple layers of reinforcement offer multiple opportunities to prevent leaks. Single-ply membranes only offer one chance at preventing a leak. Plus, there’s nothing quite like asphalt when it comes to making a roof resist water. Asphalt is the glue that holds a Built-Up Roof together. It also seals and protects the entire roof, delivering up to five times greater water-resistant thickness.
EASIER INSTALLATION
On a hot Built-Up Roof, the multiple plies are fused together using hot-mopped asphalt to create a monolithic barrier. Every inch is firmly and completely adhered over the entire roof area, without the need for ballast or fasteners. Single-ply systems require ballast or fasteners because they are generally laid loose. But ballast (such as stones) increases structural load and can be blown off by strong winds. And fasteners create stress points and additional opportunities for moisture leakage.
TruLo® Lo Odor Asphalt takes the most annoying odor out of every hot asphalt job. Maybe that’s why it’s now the industry standard that other roofing products are measured against. And it measures up – when compared to leading competitive low-odor asphalts and additives, TruLo® Lo Odor asphalt was 45% more effective at reducing odorcausing compounds. All of these product advances help you avoid costly, odorborne scheduling issues like night and weekend work.
TruLo® Max is the low-odor, lowfuming asphalt that delivers top roofing performance. The patent-pending technology not only neutralizes asphalt odor but also reduces up to 90% of the fumes at the kettle. (NIOSH Study). When compared to leading competitive lowodor asphalts and additives, TruLo® Max asphalt is 55% more effective at reducing odor-causing compounds. That’s because it was developed for use at even the most odor-sensitive sites like schools, restaurants, and hospitals.
INSULATION
Mid-States Asphalt manufactures a full line of tapered insulation panels, cant strip and tapered edge strip. Mid-States tapered insulation is used in a wide variety of built-up roofing (BUR) and single ply roofing prevent water from ponding. While 1/2”, 1/4” & 1/8” slopes are standard, special inclines are also available. Mid-States tapered insulation is available for most warranted jobs.
QUIKMELT
Since 1994, Mid-States Quik-Melt Asphalt has been helping contractors across the country save time and money, all while providing a safer working environment for their roofers. We package traditional roofing asphalt into a manageable and compact 50lb brick that’s proving to be more than just easy to work with. It’s actually changing the way top contractors view and estimate their built-up roofing BUR) projects.
SAFER WORK ENVIROMENT
No dis-assembly required! With Quik-Melt, the entire, lightweight asphalt brick can go directly from the truck to the kettle – without ever being unwrapped. At 350º F, the wrapper completely melts away. Now, the need to chop asphalt is a thing of the past.
CLEANER KETTLES
Contractors who use Quik-Melt notice a reduction in kettle maintenance. With QuikMelt, the actual asphalt never touches the ground. Just double check the melt-away wrapper for debris, and there will be little or no ground contamination introduced into the kettle. The result: a cleaner, safer kettle with less maintenance and down time.
FASTER JOB SET UP AND TAKE DOWN
Quik-Melt is packaged to be convenient before and after the job: there’s no packaging to remove that delays you from firing up the kettle on the front end, and there’s no waste to slow down your post-project clean-up. As a bonus, asphalt related dump fees are all but eliminated.

OUR STORY
The Mid-States Asphalt/ABH Enterprise family of companies was founded in 1984 by Robert Almon, Rick Besant and Jimmy Hinton. The company began in the BUR Asphalt market and further developed into all types of underlayment rolled roofing products in both the low slope and steep slope as well as fabricated insulation. Starting out with a small regional service area, we now have products available over all North America. At MSA, we know your needs may vary. That’s why we have developed a family of products to service your roofing underlayment needs.
We thank you in advance for your business!
